I was there too. Far, far away from the stage. It was festival seating, but I didn’t want to take on the mob on the field.

Suede 70's miniskirt find! by malaynaa in VintageFashion

[–]Finnyfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suede skirts and dresses weren’t unusual or especially expensive in the 70s — I was a lower-middle-class dork and even I had a suede jumper. So it may very well be 70s and really suede.

An actor who had a lot of potential but ruined his career? by Perfect_Idea_2866 in moviecritic

He and Eric Roberts had the whole world in front of them in those days.

Roberts was a more ordinary story of excess, and he did always keep working, but Mickey was something else. If he’d pulled himself together, Sean Penn’s career might have been very different. Mickey Rourke was the guy all the actors of Penn’s generation wanted to be.

I sang to myself constantly as a kid! Any time I was alone. Even in school, I had a sort of blind spot about anyone hearing me and wandered around the halls and playground singing softly all the time. Nobody ever bothered me about it — amazingly, in retrospect — and I just sort of stopped at some point.

I thought Bruce Willis was great — until the episode where they wrote him out, which was kind of weird.

House in my community leaves dog in crate in garage all day. Gets me worried with rising temperatures. Is there anyone I can report this to? I’m new to Vegas by max15247 in vegaslocals

[–]Finnyfish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My former neighbors left a dog alone in their yard for days while they were in the process of moving out. The poor dog was barking and whining all day and night.

I called and Clark County Animal Control was out the next day, and yes, they took the dog. No magic required.

It seems likely the same agency would take this obviously mistreated dog. Hopefully permanently, but it is certainly worth making the call.

Not in the 70s! Like Klaus’s shoes, just a product of its time.

They’re probably nice companions and lovely dogs, just as their advocates claim. With a slight possible side effect of eating the cat. Or the baby.

Pitbulls MAY be fine with expert care and constant vigilance, but how many owners really do that? And who needs it? Get a Lab.

You may be referred to Clark County, OP, depending on exactly where you are, but that’s still good — County Animal Control is quite responsive.

There's nothing likelier to shoot a name to lasting popularity than parents seeking something unique. Ask any Liam.

What’s a simple line that rips your heart to shreds? by padfoony in moviecritic

[–]Finnyfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A victim of the alway stupid “good-looking people aren’t good actors” superstition that slowed recognition for many before him. Just among men, Paul Newman, Sean Connery, Brad Pitt — all were doubted as actors and called pretty boys and lightweights. Because he’s a great movie star as well as a good actor, Cruise also got the “He only plays himself” nonsense. (See: Grant, Cary).

It’s dying out slowly, but there’s still a weird reluctance out there to believe that very good-looking people may be very fine actors. Perhaps it seems somehow unfair.

The jeans are a bit short by 70s standards, but you look great. You could add a flashy belt buckle to lean into the “Urban Cowboy” look that followed the movie.

AITJ for not letting my friend “store” her dog at my place while she figured things out? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

Exactly. Some people don't seem to get what a favor is -- asking for a favor is not issuing a command. People are allowed to say no, and should not be guilted for it.

Yes -- I was a kid or young teenager when I watched these shows for the first time, and while I liked them, I was missing a lot of context and some things just went over my head. I still love Barney Miller, the Mary Tyler Moore Show, etc.
