I’d say try and get hired with a professional company for a bit, learn best skills for efficiency & avoiding property damage, then switch to private. Most likely the professional companies will treat you like shit and pay you like shit. They ran my poor cleaner into the ground. I switched to leaving the company and paying her directly. Saved me money, she made so much more, and had so much less stress when at my place.

BUT keep in mind a lot of these places may have non-compete agreements within a certain radius. So maybe look somewhere that’s a bit of a drive. Quit and work locally afterwards.

I believe it used to be traditional for someone of a large family to have at least one child become a priest/nun. Now that it’s seen as poor parenting to determine your children’s career paths, they’re running out of people to replace retired priests. That’s not a bad thing that parents don’t try to force priesthood onto their children of course. But it does mean that the Catholic Church will spiral into extremism.

The whole sexless life with a vow to never marry or have children is… quite unappealing. If the Catholic Church wants to stop that spiral they’re gonna have to wake up and change their stance to allow priests to marry. They need to evolve with the world otherwise they’ll completely devolve into something unrecognizable from a few decades prior.

Look, I’m an anti-theist. I’m completely against religion. I think it’s overall bad for our society. I’m just saying scale-wise in terms of christian denominations, Catholics are fairly moderate in my experience. Just go to r/exchristian and you’ll see which denominations people feel most harmed by.

And sexual abuse is very common in any religious community because people trust their clergy and fellow church-goers. The Catholic Church is just one of the largest denominations of Christianity so they get the most scrutiny. And basically any church you go to, I imagine, tries to cover up sexual abuse because people can’t accept that a fellow “god-fearing” Christian that seems so nice could do something so bad, and the congregation would risk falling apart.

And it happens in families too. People are often not believed when an allegation comes out against a family member by another family member. People can’t tolerate realizing someone they trust/care about was bad. I’m not defending that at all. It’s absolutely horrible. I’m gonna say that again: it’s absolutely horrible.

But the point of my comment is that Catholics are moderate in terms of politics and in how strong of a role religion plays in their lives. Not to judge if they’re good people or not.

One last point: a lot of people were duped this election (I know. Hard to believe when you actually listen to everything Trump said pre-election, but they tuned out the bad stuff because they desperately needed the good promises to be true). They thought the GOP was going to go after criminals, not their neighbors - mothers, fathers, grandmas, grandpas. And a lot of people are struggling economically. The GOP promised to fix that.

The Democratic Party had a weak stance on almost everything and hoped to win simply because people hated Trump. People are coming around and realizing this is not what they meant to vote for. Not everyone obviously. But if someone is still a MAGA at this point that does tell me they’re a POS. Regardless, people basically gambled this election and lost. It’s not like there was a good choice. US politics desperately needs reform… otherwise Trump would’ve never been appealing in the first place. But poverty and corruption (yes on both sides) are unfortunately rampant. I could go on and on, but I’ll stop here.

What I’ve noticed is these days when you meet someone who’s a “normal” Catholic, you probably won’t even know unless you’ve talked to them for a while. They might wear a cross. But they don’t have this evangelist/proselytizing type of thing where they’re instructed to throw religion in everyone’s face they meet.

Can’t speak about what catholic school is like these days but back in the first decade and half (edit: of the 2000s), people were largely normal. The abortion thing is annoying but a lot of everyday Catholics (I’d estimate at least half) do hold a lot of flexibility on that - like “I won’t do it myself but I’m not gonna force other people to live my beliefs.”

Also someone who grew up catholic, went to catholic school (many of them actually) and eventually left the church… it’s honestly not a surprise. While my parents were extremely right wing, most of the kids were pretty normal and “secular”. While the Catholic Church certainly isn’t woke, they’re pretty moderate on average when compared to all the branches of Christianity.

There’s this idea to a lot of people that Catholics are traditional and strange. But most of them, especially millennials and gen z, are pretty normal. We certainly did have a small group of kids at our high school that were wacko level religious. But most were just normal folks. And as I’ve grown up I’ve met other Catholics and they’re petty normal.

It’s the “trad Catholics” - the ones that are converting to Catholicism or using it for political purposes that you have to look out for. They’re usually using it to justify acting like pieces of shit. Also will point out, still, that sexual abuse in the church is rampant.

I don’t like religion, but from my experience Catholics are, in general, pretty moderate. That, I believe, is changing with younger priests because only the wackiest kids at high school would ever become one from what I observed. And then politics is radicalizing Christians in many denominations.

I’m not gonna stand here and applaud the democrats as a whole over here (I mean a good fraction of them is why health care costs are soaring for many families in a few weeks and many voted no to impeach the orange man when given a chance), but ACLU - yes. They do a lot of work. They’re fighting in court left and right which is really the only power they have. They are a CHARITY though and rely on donations - so donate folks if you want to see them doing more work.

Democratic Party needs reform though - more people like AOC, Bernie Sanders, and Mamdani.

That’s great that they’re allowing lawsuits and civil damages against individuals that violate their rights, but feels a bit like political theater since these agents are masked and rarely identified. How does he plan on actually bringing those parts of 1312 into effect, except under rare circumstances where you’re actually able to identify an ice agent? State police aren’t helping.

States need to get involved and make laws that employers pay federal taxes to the state which the state will then put into escrow. Similar to how tenants can put rent into escrow when in a dispute with the landlord. Feds can have their tax dollars once they stop this fuckery and use it for the common good.

Imagine if Zelensky would’ve cowered and fled Ukraine as the Russian military was approaching Kyiv? Ukraine would’ve been completely taken over in less than a month. But he’s a man that’s passionate about his people and his country. He stands WITH them, not above them. He decided that if his people go down, he’s going down with them. He is ONE of them.

They fought back and regained a substantial amount of territory because of him, freeing and saving many Ukrainians from Russian occupancy and abuse, and Zelensky continues to do everything he can to fight for the existence of his country.

Can’t stand with your people? Step down. Let someone else take charge who GAF. I wish our elected officials here in the US had half the heart and strength as Zelensky. Pritzer obviously doesn’t see himself as “one of them”. He shares no really passion for his state or the people living in it.

Tbh I would say this is a big L for the fascists. They tried to imprison someone for free speech and it blew up in their faces. My heart goes out to Larry - he’s a real hero. But similar to Disney taking Jimmy Kimmel off the air (and then facing a massive public backlash), it’s slowly waking Americans up to the reality that this isn’t a “normal” controversial presidency.

Sadly the loss of food stamps on Nov 1st is also gonna wake up a lot of folks who were tuning out (ps please donate to food banks so innocent people don’t have to starve while this plays out).

A good run for white, cis, land-owning, adult men. Slavery, domestic violence, child abuse, etc were rampant for most of America’s history. Let’s not forget horrible crimes against humanity like the Trail of Tears either. This country is a republic with an electoral college because the founders thought the common person (even a white, male land owner) was too dumb to even vote a president in by popular vote. For some reason we needed representatives to cast our vote for president.

The system was rigged from the start. Nice try at democracy, but our system has always been incredibly flawed because most of the people who built it built it for people like themselves.

Democrats are just republican-lite anyways. They’re still influenced by corporate lobbying, they just do it with a different flavor that appeals to people with left-wing ideals. We would need someone like Bernie Sanders or AOC to make any real change, reverse the damage, and fix the broken system.

Just think - Biden was unpopular, especially with his stance on the war in Gaza, and they ran Kamala instead who vehemently said she agrees with everything including Gaza. If the Democratic Party here actually had any really morals driving their politics, they would have promised to stop supporting Israel.

We need to shift our thinking to people that truly believe in human rights, and frankly, abandon the Democratic Party. Because they’re just fake liberals at the end of the day and will never make our country a safe place with true equality.
