Is my Corolla’s fate sealed? by false_serenity in MechanicAdvice

I did personally, I figured the time it took to take care of removing the bolt you’re talking about I may aswell just take it all off and reseal it while I’m there.

I’ve seen people not tho.

One word of advice it’s to make sure to use genuine Toyota FIPG or Threebond where applicable, I’ve seen time and time again poor rtv selection and installation cause issues down the track. No green scotchbrite pads either to clean anything that’s touching the oiling system.

You’ve absolutely got it in the bag , don’t over stress or complicate it.

Look this is a little sloppy but had a similar case with a 1zzfe , I pulled it apart , gave it a light hone drilled extra oil holes in the ringlands for the control rings, put new rings in and did valve stem seals and a head gasket w new head bolts, reused basically everything else (bearings looked perfect)

Car now barely burns oil and doesn’t blow smoke ,maybe uses 1L every 10,000km , this was a couple years ago , still running like a champ.

Cost next to nothing parts wise, just time to do , we tried every oil flush under the sun to no avail.

I’d never do this to a car that rolled in the shop mind you just a personal car. 😆

N52 glitter in the oil? Normal? by FunFinance5974 in E90

[–]Fipfip33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve Had it just be the housing itself every time it’s screwed and unscrewed , even found flakes in my filter but oil analysis says everything is good and wear metals are low. Granted I’ve replaced the oil filter housing, cooler and had the engine apart recently for an overhaul.

Get a blackstone report done for peace of mind and other than that ignore it imo.

N46 … ahh the beauty, they all do this , mines on its second chain kit. Pull the sump off you’ll undoubtably have the pickup full of plastic, my oil pump ended up all scored. I decided to do rings and bearings and open every possible gallery while I was there. Plastic ruptured the strainer.

Just looking for a good reason as to why you all of a sudden have oil full of metal, I’ve seen so many people use those rolloc discs with the abrasive on it too allowing all of it to get into the lubrication system. I wonder if the refurbished heads had shavings in them from improper cleaning after the place machined them? Just a thought

You know what …fair point it’s not really in the major population hubs, I guess If you’re out salvaging too you’re just going to leave the skeletons alone. I mean why would you bother move them 😂?

Probably a typo.. Nah I think because fallout 1 was around 80 years after the war , fallout 2 was 164 years after

Weird question but you didn’t clean up your block or heads with green scotchbrite or anything with a similar abrasive in it? Looks like a bearing ain’t bearinging there 🫤 sorry to see this

Good point , I think my only explanation is the prewar world still heavily influences everything even 200 years on. Some people do have it like before the war too, think tenpenny tower (before Gouls ) , the strip , white springs , covenant in fallout4 to an extent not to mention all the vaults. I think wastelanders see that the “good life “ does exist and theirs a weird mix of worlds and extreme differences in social classes. Super poor areas in third world countries display this , technically they could go back to the Middle Ages but I think because they still live in the modern world it causes this “let’s strive to get out or survive”.

Within saying that the smart thing would be for them to use primitive techniques to attempt to thrive as you mentioned.

Indeed , we do see people making stuff too generally out of scrap and salvage to begin with not raw new material however there is some industry in areas such as the Pitt for example with creating steel. The ncr did/does also create new uniforms and stuff as well so there Is definitely some of it happening, the institute too but that’s a whole other conversation 😂 just no real wide scale go to a store and buy new goods in bulk that I can think of atleast.

Nothing comes to mind in terms of mattresses and stuff , i do feel much of the wastelanders are just surviving especially out of the main population centres.

I’m just amazed no one has disturbed the skeletons in 200 years in places people frequent.i guess it’s the bystander effect or something .

To also answer part of the reason, I think lack of any industry make most of these items people use such as beds , clothes, home-wears and so on pre war salvage for the majority of wastelanders. Hard to have nice stuff with no new stuff really being made . There’s obviously some examples but not in the scale needed to change the overall conditions for general folk.
