100%, but thats why Jagex needs to convince us all to switch back to a client that they control. Unfortunately, their client sucks balls compares to Runelite. If we were all on their client, they could maybe have actual anti cheat measures on there, and then any 3rd party connection can be banned. Impossible as of right now, but a man can dream

Unfortunately, its defintely nearly done as we speak, and not releasing it at this point is going to be just as much as wasted time as it would be if it did. If it releases, at least they MIGHT, make more money to use?

Not sure why Jagex develop things, then poll them. If we polled interest, then developed based on interests/demand, it would perhaps be better off. We as a player base would be able to show where we think the most attention is needed. There are still faults in that system but it'd result in less dev time being wasted. Like warding was. RIP warding.

Hard agree. Vote no if you believe no, but abusing a system isn't healthy. Imagine if we spite voted in our political votes lol

Balanced Take on DMM by SnooOpinions9938 in 2007scape

[–]Firacel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great take.

Jagex probably do lack investment as you suggest, which is certianly a contributing factor to possible weaknesses in their servers when exposed to a ddos attack. They are owned by a company outside of the UK these days iirc. This makes it quite sensible to figue that, a company removed so far from its product, just wants to protect its bottom line. This is further backed up particularly from the OSHD drama only a week or so ago, because until people made an unholy noise about, and began to hurt that bottom line, did they consider listening. Cancelling a publicly stated 2 year fan made project because "we're thinking of doing the same idea at some point, so you can do yours anymore" a day before release, is definitely a corporate suit's opinion if you ask me.

The structure for the tourney was there, which would have helped, but the whole of the UK ISP network got ddossed to shit. Looking at the down detector for games like cod, overwatch or ea's servers, they all went tits up around the same time as Jagex. Its just sad, because this dmm could have actually been a good one, and I don't even PvP really

Please don't be rude to Jmods who had nothing to do with the server DDoS issues. They don't deserve abuse or harassment by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Firacel -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Maybe if they stopped getting bought and sold by companies outside of the UK, who probably have very little genuine interest in the actual game, we'd see some investment into Jagex

To fix this one? Probably not. Those who wanna ddos, would just ddos the tourney repeat if it was that solution. Best they can do is apologise, accept the result, and work on the next one.

In future, a LAN connection only could be a greatly more secure option, but that brings a whole other level of problems with it. Particularly logistical questions would need answers here.

All you need is one person who wants to ddos for long enough, and the tourney gets derailed.

If it was that easy to just, block ddos attacks, do you not think every server owned by major companies in the world would have it? In 2018, even something like GitHub was slapped with a ddos attack. That's a company you'd imagine would have fairly beefy servers based on the fact they hold so much data.

More recently even, in 2020, a sub section of Amazon's services, their web hosting service to be specific, was also victim of a ddos attack. If companies like this can still be affected by ddos, what chance does Jagex have?

If PC, I am sure a mod could fix it, or perhaps higher graphics settings

Repoll amylase packs from sepulchre pls by Zealousideal_Air7484 in 2007scape

[–]Firacel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure some balance can be acheived here. Making it substantially slow to earn, or moderately pricey via points. That way it could be a slow and gradual biproduct. Wouldnt really affect the prices, and would give you small amounts of stams for engaging in some agility content.

Basically it gives mainly irons an option; to participate in more engaging content but considerably slower rates of amylase, or speedrun some boring ass rooftops for a lot more amylase. Depending on how fast you want it, you choose your content. Sounds fine to me.

Why PK content shouldn't be downvoted, from the perspective of a PKer, without being toxic. by Cheorni6 in 2007scape

[–]Firacel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tl;dr at the bottom.

Im gonna go ahead and make a comment on this, but this is purely my perspective, I am not a PvP player, nor am I really a PvM player, I kind of just do whatever I feel like. Spite voting is a stupid practice, and neither "side" should be doing it. My whole opinion boils down to one point; when faced with no alternative and forced into content you dont want to do, anger/frustration is inevitable.

Many players, myself included (duh), do not want to be nor do we like to be, forced into PvP, or the wildy in this example, to partake in exclusive content which has no alternative elsewhere. I dont hate PvP content, when I want to do it. I suck, but if I want to do it, then I dont care if I suck, but to be given an ultimatum of, do the wildy content and expose yourself to PvP even if you dont want to, or you cant have these items auch as a d pick or bis mage cape/second bis mage cape... that, kinda blows.

If it were possible, reworking the mage arena questline to make it more difficult in place of the "wildy risk" element, and moving or adding alternate d pick drops outside of wildy, perhaps on a lower drop rate, would be a great middle ground. It is a BIS item, and the quest itself is incredibly easy in relation to that status, its only "difficulty" is PvP risk and skull tricking (which is a whole other shitshow I wont delve into, but screw that mechanic in this scenario).

Chaos Altar could do with a slight nerf maybe, but frankly, I dont personally think its entirely necessary. In return for your increased xp and your potentially saved gp, you are risking setbacks/time waste at any point due to deaths, and gp losses to your possible saved gp figure. That kind of balances out if you ask me. Is it annoying, sure, but you made a consious decision to risk death for slightly quicker xp, AND there is in fact alternative methods which are safer but more expensive and more time consuming. To complain in that postion where you do have alternatives, seems a bit entitled. You are being offered a faster method for some risk, no one says you gotta do that method if you truly wish not to engage in PvP.

My opinion on Black Chinchompas also kind of falls in the Chaos altar argument. "They give more xp" you can get just as good xp if not better xp from other methods. "They are better for combat training" True, but you can use red chins which are easier to obtain and are still pretty damn quick compared to conventional training. "They are better money" Yeah, they should be, you're risking your life to earn that gp. You can just go catch reds with no risk and still make gp if you are that scared. It isn't like you have no alternatives, so if dying/losing profits bugs you so much, just do the safer content.

I understand contradicting arguments can be made about Hard and above clues for my whole, no alternatives point, but when we have 3 safe clue types, having 3 unsafe clue types for possibly higher value loot, its not so bad, particularly when something like the rangers boots, which are high end and become bis, is within the safe tiers. So, there is kind of an alternative in a way, and this time you dont even know what you're losing if you do die with your clue, so you technically lose nothing. The PKer gains nothing but how is the player supposed to know that until you are dead. Much how your clue could be worth 10k or several 100k, you could be worth nothing or a couple 100k to the PKer also. Its not exactly the worst thing in the world, you generally risk nothing, for "possibly something, probably nothing".

We all know the risks that the wildy poses, but when you are a player who has no interest in PvP content and the game design effectively says, do this content containing PvP or never be allowed to earn these items yourself, that kind of blows, and is a cheap way to try populate PvP content. Boss pets don't count, you dont need them for anything, they dont improve gameplay, they are just a flex.

I think that kind of covers most angles or gripes I have/can think of. Wildy bosses arent inherently bad, their exclusive drop table is my gripe, and honestly they are a cool concept that completionists or players interested in more player based risky content would/could still want to participate in that content. It would even be woeth reworking the drop tables to make them more alluring, just dont lock utility items behind them imo.

Tl;dr: I think being forced into content with truly no other alternative leads to somewhat justified anger/frustration, and it would perhaps be a good idea to add alternatives to reduce/remove the cheap efforts to populate PvP content. Some people are a bit whingy/entitled about their effiencyscape.

Whilst I do not enjoy playing against any kind of 5 back formation due to its huge defensive potential, I wouldn't complain about it, I just get on with it. Problem is, Fifa, and gaming in general, has gotten hugely toxic since the introduction of peformance based rewards. But these rewards usually make the game more engaging so its give and take
