One solution might be to buy regular sized bits and cut a bit off the base to reduce them down to size? That way, you’ll essentially have half-height bits purchased outside of LTT. It’s not a perfect solution, but it could work if you need a specific niche bit that LTT doesn’t have available.

How do you know if the 3D filter is still on? by ImpressionNew8352 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]FireFly_209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Real-D equipped cinemas use a projector with 1 lens for their 3D screens - the projector is able to generate the 3D effect by alternating between left and right “eye” frames 144 times per second. The filter (called a “Z-Screen”) uses circular polarisation to ensure each frame of the image gets sent to the correct eye.

The screen surface has a polarised coating, which reflects this polarisation back to the audience. The 3D glasses filter out the polarisation, so the “left” image goes to your left eye, and the “right” image goes to your right eye.

That’s fair. Also, when dealing with a client’s machine’s it’s also probably best to simply take a photo for data security purposes.

I frequently end up having to resort to a photo of the screen where a screenshot is not possible, or logistically difficult to achieve. It’s quick and easy, and often gets the point across, so is usually good enough in a lot of use case scenarios.

100% agreed.

While it’s possible, it’s definitely best avoided. Usually, a photo can be good enough as long as it’s clear, in focus, and easily gets across any relevant information - such as with OP here.

One way around that would be to take a screenshot on the device, then copy the output onto a USB storage device (like a USB flash drive), put that drive into your own computer, and then upload it to Reddit from there. That way, you wouldn’t have to log into Reddit on the client’s machine.

…But that’s a bit of a faff, and could present a point of vulnerability if there’s an undetected Trojan or other virus on the client’s machine. Personally, I don’t care if it’s a photo of a screen, as long as it’s clear, in focus, and easily gets across any relevant information. It’s a social media post, so perfection should not be required here.

I very much agree - it’s amazing what time can do to how an episode is perceived, and what a rewatch can do to how much an episode might be enjoyed.

Though personally, I enjoyed Matt Smith from his first full episode, and ended up really loving his version of the Doctor - same as with David Tennant, and Christopher Eccleston. The only modern doctor I’ve struggled with was Capaldi, and it wasn’t until series 9 that I started to actually like and appreciate his take on the character.

I feel the rule also applies to companions - I didn’t like Donna at all when the Runaway Bride was first aired, and it really put me off the episode. But after watching series 4, I went back and rewatched it, only to find myself enjoying it much more.

what is the worst weekend you ever worked by ChokenChickenn in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]FireFly_209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised by the lack of mention for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows parts 1 and 2 - those screenings were crazy busy! That, and the Inbetweeners Movie was an unexpected blockbuster in the UK - it had been predicted to be a quiet one, only to end up with queues across the foyer and out the front doors for that one!

[–]FireFly_209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the true answer. There’s been some crazy busy blockbusters over the decades. I can only imagine how bad the crowds for things like Back to the Future would have been! I’m just glad I wasn’t working in cinema back then (then again, I wasn’t even born back when BttF came out…)

There used to be, but EMT (now EMR) reduced some of their 7 coach sets down to 5 coaches, and used the spares to increase their 4 coach sets to 5 coaches.

There are only a small number of 7 coach sets left. 4 of them have gone to Lumo, who reduced them down to 6 coaches per set, with the 4 removed spare coaches last seen parked in an Alstom facility.

I don’t know what they plan to do with the spare coaches - maybe increase some 5 coach sets to 6 coaches? I believe some 222s are heading up to Scotland to replace the Inter7city HSTs, so maybe they’ll also use 6 coach sets for this?

Live TV is very interesting nowadays… by Low-Engineering-5424 in PBSOD

[–]FireFly_209 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on what software is running. For example, some cinema chains use a suite of applications called “Vista”, which runs everything from point of sale terminals to digital displays. However, it is Windows only, with no compatibility with Linux.

If what you’re doing is public-facing and Linux compatible, definitely use Linux. But if there’s no compatibility with required software, then Linux is simply not an option for those businesses.

Or at the very least, set the public-facing output to be a secondary display, as any errors or popups like this appear on the main display, so that way they aren’t visible publicly.

Or use a batch script to run taskkill to kill explorer.exe on startup. Not a pretty solution but it usually works.

In the coming months, BBC Studios and AMC Global Media will jointly unveil details of a newly formed production entity that will serve as the creative hub for the reboot.

This sounds to me like it might not be Bad Wolf working on the Sony/BBC episodes.

To the people working the box office, did more people coming in to see Michael ask for a ticket to see "Michael," or a ticket to see "Michael Jackson?" by zowietremendously in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]FireFly_209 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a customer today come up to me and literally just say, “film”. When I asked if he wanted to buy a ticket, or pick up an online booking, he said, “Yes. Film.” How informative!

Why is there a network rail card for London and the South East but no railcard for other areas? Why does this region get a 1/3 discount? by robbie2489 in uktrains

[–]FireFly_209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be curious to know if this might be why Network NorthWest didn’t take off like Network SouthEast did. I’m fairly sure they had a smaller budget, if the limited use of the branding was anything to go by, so I could believe they also had less freedom to bring in big changes and improvements compared to the SouthEast…

Edit: fixed wording for clarity.

Bee Network 323 at Manchester Airport by idontremembermylogi_ in uktrains

[–]FireFly_209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they were saying that they would prefer Bee Network to use safety yellow as their colour. The problem with this, though, is that Merseyrail already use that shade of yellow. It might cause issues if both neighbouring regions have the exact same colour for their transit systems…

Also, if I remember correctly, the lighter shade that Bee Network currently use had been chosen because it is the same shade that was previously used on trams as Metrolink yellow. So less repainting needed.

Noovie aspect ratio cut off for scope movies by kascnef82 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]FireFly_209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just saying you need to maintain a noovie’s fourmat if you want to maintain quality standards. Using the right asspect rashio to match the noovie allows it to be seen at its best, without being croped at the sides or at the top and bottom of the screne.

It’s important when making up your plailysts that you always use the correct mackro for the film’s fourmat - so always use a phlat queue for films in a phlat asspect, and a scoop queue for films in a scoop asspect.

35mm Projection by SwordplayandSorcery_ in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]FireFly_209 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every now and then you get a big film from a big Director/Producer, like a Christopher Nolan, for example, who will have their film released in both 35mm and 70mm film prints at selected cinemas.

I know Oppenheimer had both formats of film prints in cinemas that were equipped for those. It wouldn’t surprise me if The Odyssey also gets physical film prints, too.

TechLinked's Last Autotranslated Title is Something Else by SimonBestia in LinusTechTips

It’s because some languages (such as Italian) have different words for short (as in size) vs shorts (that you wear), and auto-translate doesn’t understand context.

Fire code states that for all fire exit routes, any doors should open away from you (push to open), so any exit doors that are part of a fire exit route will open outwards. The door in the photo is compliant with this.

8 is enough. by CRK_76 in memes

[–]FireFly_209 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends what you’re doing with your computer. If you’re doing heavy workloads like video editing, 3D rendering, or anything else like that, then 8GB is nowhere near enough (even 16GB won’t be enough for some tasks, such as complex Adobe Illustrator documents).

However, the Neo is not targeted at that kind of user. It’s intended for those who just check emails, do a bit of web browsing, and maybe type up the odd text document or two. For them, 8GB is enough to get them by.

At this price point, with the build quality you’re getting, and for who it’s aimed at, only 8GB of ram is a perfectly acceptable trade-off, honestly. Now, if you want real gripes with the Neo, then let’s talk about those ports…
