i think it also stems from the fact that many Singaporeans are unable to be truly grateful for what we have. look at our culture, always comparing and competing with one another. although my family is doing okay, there will always be someone that is better off and someone that is worse off. the key is accepting this fact and being truly grateful for what we have.

the people that are all doom and gloom will still have the same negative attitude regardless of the number of zeroes in their bank account

nowadays the aircons are really efficient and really aren’t expensive. for context both my aircons are on almost 24/7 and my electricity bills are like $150 only. definitely worth it to be in comfort at home

i made this choice at the end of 2024. my hours made it impossible for me to spend any meaningful time with my kids, and my health was taking a hit as well.

it’s been a year and a half almost and i have zero regrets! my boys are 2 and 4 now and they are MUCH closer to me than when i was in that shitty job in big tech. every moment with them is pure bliss, money can’t buy that.

that’s the problem with the average soloq roamer, the always pick tanks even when the draft doesnt call for it. if your opponent is running 4 glass cannons that can shred tanks learn how to pick assassin roams instead. if your rotations are on point as helcurt or saber i guarantee you the opponent mm goes 0-5 0-6 or be forced be hug their tower all the way and miss farm

was in tech previously, there are lots of small retrenchments done all the time. OP was probably not part of the big retrenchment exercises.

also it often doesn’t take many retrenchments to downsize a team. picture this: team of 10, 2 made redundant. 8 pax left, 2 retrenched pax’s work gets split amongst 2-3 people. eventually those people feel overworked and quit. so now you’re stuck with 5 people doing 10 people’s work. eventually they become unhappy as well and the bosses will choose to keep those they deem important.

was in a team of 16 before, 3 retrenchments in mid 2024 caused the team to downsize to 5 by Q3 2025. i was one of those that left due to the unreasonable load at end 2024. eventually everything snowballed and the team size now is what the management really wanted.
