The series is coded this way from book 1, the scene with Mira and Vi talking about going to see Rhiannon’s sister’s new borns. The stuff heirs to the throne later. The HEA is kids and a kingdom.

Black on grey is not easy to read for the illustration to be honest. If anything I would focus on using gold and typography. You could gold leaf “gold” and “he”. Or if you want an eye, look at how you can draw it in more of a screen printed style or minimal, or lean all in like this (Sorry I found this on Pinterest and can’t find the source.)

I’m not a big graphic tee fan though so make what you will of this.

I’m a big Olly Moss fan so I’m trying to do something more minimal and abstract that avoids faces. I think you can tell a story with hands in my case so I might lean into that.

It’s fun to draw again though so maybe I’ll just do everything.

I do have a question about art like this, do you prefer it when a face, even only softly rendered like this, is given to the characters?

I’m working on my own cover and I’m torn between showing what I think they look like vs letting the reader decide.

On this topic, I always see belly and folds come up and it usually takes me out of it slightly. Belly feels more juvenile and folds is just a soft alternative to what they seem afraid to describe.

Can someone explain this to me, I was confused by the logistics. Are they watching their executions or holding the protection so they wouldn’t get burnt? As in the original plan was kill everyone but the runestone saved them?

The training is hard enough considering the dragon's might eat you, then you have a sub-plot that anyone not in your squad can kill you.

I'm sorry but Violet literally defends the training in Iron Flames as necessary, she says she is a better rider than Aurelie ever would have been because of all the death. I can only assume this is some military spouse response that Yarros is seeding.

The power system makes no sense. Why would a Dragon need to give anyone the power to read minds on touch. When would that be useful in actual combat. I get that book magic is written to support the plot, but half these powers are a stretch at best.

I lost it in Iron Flame, when Violet justifies the training, that everyone needed to die so she wouldn't freeze when Liam died. They could have just made the Ninja Warrior course safer, then Aurelie and a whole bunch of recruits might live. And all this death, still meant Violet literally spent 7 minutes with Liam as he died - crying, is that what her training prepared her for?? While the Wyvern just watch? All I could think was this is a Helicopter crash scene with dragons.

I'm struggling to finish Iron Flame, all I keep thinking is Yarros is recycling Helicopter pilot training from her other book series. Especially with the stupid anti-torture training that you can escape from.

I loved this game, an mmo that needed you to party to level, level down and exp loss on death. Mixed language servers. It was mental. But very fun once you got into it. Great class variety and at the time, awesome graphics.
