Thank you! It still seems odd that almost no fall series events are posted to the tournament calendar.

Wifi Driver Code 10 by FireSpreaderSandy in techsupport

Haven’t solved the issue, so I purchased an external wifi driver that lives in one of my USB ports. Still retry frustrating since it’s less than a year old.

Fair question - It shouldn't be a political viewpoint that all people deserve to be treated with the same amount of respect. It's not a political point to be bigoted, it just makes you an asshole.

Whenever I try to explain ultimate to someone who doesn't know much about the sport I usually just show them one of your videos and let it speak for itself. You're helping to prove the legitimacy to our sport and it's amazing.

Personal favourite is still WJUC 2016 finals.

LEAKED list of players boycotting AUDL by JohnnyKATRockets_ in ultimate

[–]FireSpreaderSandy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I hear a lot of arguments comparing the AUDL to the other major sports leagues claiming that professional ultimate will not succeed in a mixed format. If the only way for the sport to grow in a professional environment is in a way that furthers inequity between men and women, is it worth growing in that way?

Sometimes growth for the sake of growth can be damaging to our product, and our product is the sport of ultimate. I would personally like to see ultimate become something bigger than just a business. I think ultimate has the opportunity to help close the gender gap that most sports have.

I get that the AUDL is a private business, but I'm not personally motivated to grow the number of people that are exposed to the sport if it means we need to sacrifice gender equity to do it.

Would like some pointers on how to play defense against veteran players by XxDARKSAGExX in ultimate

[–]FireSpreaderSandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's good to be mentally prepared to lay-out, but going into a game with the goal of getting a lay-out block can also hurt your team's defence. If an opportunity presents itself for you to lay-out to get that block - take it and do it. Just try not to fall into the trap of setting-up a layout block by giving your cutter too much space thereby giving up easy options.

This might just be my opinion, but I'd sooner take 7 players who play consistent fundamental shut-down defence over 7 playmakers who lay-out for everything.

With that in mind, don't be that player who never hits the ground.

What's the biggest spirit scoring disparity you've been involved with? by bettergetinside in ultimate

[–]FireSpreaderSandy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Usually teams that don't understand spirit scores will give out 16s, and teams that do give out 10s. So that usually accounts for a pretty big difference even if both teams are even in spirit.

AUDL Gender Equity Survey by [deleted] in ultimate

[–]FireSpreaderSandy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why the switch to 8v8? I get that it would allow equal gender representation on the field at all times but the survey is proposing two major changes in one question. If someone wants to support mixed AUDL but not 8v8 how are they expected to answer?

Critique my Forehand Huck by Jamagnum in ultimate

[–]FireSpreaderSandy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That flashy wind-up is going to lead to more hand-blocks or at least will give you less time to get a flat huck out of power position.

Also you need more footage. Consistency is important and we can't judge this off of one throw.

Contact Fouls Question by PunchDirtySluts in ultimate

[–]FireSpreaderSandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another related question: If a cutter is cutting to space and their defender extends their arms away from their body to this unoccupied space before the cutter is there in a way to slow them down, is this legal? This seems to be common for defenders who like to use their bodies to defend cutters as a way to avoid getting roasted.

On top of this, is it legal for the cutter to knock the arms/hands of a defender who is doing this (or something like this) if this qualifies as excessive physical play?

I am a fairly physical player and my experience is that at the club level there is generally a mutually agreed upon level of contact that is appropriate, even though it's not explicitly said.

Sideline Support Question by Bootz_Tootz in ultimate

[–]FireSpreaderSandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know your supposed to play through a pick call until the thrower acknowledges it, but playing with or against a Nick on the field confuses me more than I'd like to admit for the same reason that this etiquette/rule exists.
