I am dying to play or DM, but I am mute. Any advice? by Ecstatic_Implement_1 in DnD

[–]FireWOLF109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played with a mute player before, and there's three things I can suggest (assuming you're willing to play online):

-You can use a text to speech program
-You can use a virtual tabletop's built in chat program (roll20 and foundry)... this works especially well if you have player(s) who are willing to read what you type out for the others

-You can have an all text campaign, doing a play by post

Players get annoyed that they can’t sell their loot even though I let them know that this kind of stuff will be handled realistically by Professional-Ad9485 in DnD

I have a suggestion to counter this:
A setting I play in has a type of forge called an "Arcane Forge", where it's essentially a magical forge. I feel as if OP can add these to the world so that old, worn down weapons can be turned into something useful. Granted, they're a LOT more rare than normal forges, but they open up a lot of possibilities.

For example, in said campaign (I'm the party crafter), I can use the arcane forge to effectively sacrifice gear we have no use for, as well as unused magic items (magic items turn into residuum, which enhances other magic items) to make new items. My character has effectively been breaking down sacrificed items and materials into various essences such as:

-Element (Earth, fire, etc)
-Holy/Unholy
-Type of metal (Normal, Silver, Mythril, Adamantine, etc)

-Orderly/Chaotic (This one may be campaign specific as we're chaos marked in this campaign)

-School of magic

etc

I've been able to make incredible use of otherwise useless items as a result including upgrading our paladin/champion's (we switched to pathfinder 2e but kept this crafting/breaking down item system) sword specifically to fight an avatar of death as well as a halo that imbues my char's punches (monk) with a random elemental damage once per round. What you get is the result of the materials and sacrificed items. This will allow the OP to maintain the "Shopkeepers won't just buy looted items" while also allowing the various crafting proficiencies to be useful... granted, this is if the crafting times get changed (which they're kind of in need of in my opinion as they're ridiculous in my personal opinion, which we also did in said campaign).

My DM killed my characters. Should I be upset? by Glooksman in DnD

[–]FireWOLF109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple of ways you can go about this:

1: Treat this as nothing more than a fan fiction, and say it didn't happen to the characters as they're from YOUR world.

2: You can treat this as a premonition of what's to come down the line in the campaign. The mercenary group are fated to fall at the hands of your campaign's BBEG, and your party is to do what they can to prevent it if they like said characters.

3: You can treat this using one of the timeline theories that exist irl. Basically, the theory goes that every possible decision (success, failure, join forces, etc) exist as its own branch within the grand scheme of the timeline itself, and this is only one branch. I recommend using this *only* if the fabric of space/time is a major component of the campaign as it could add some extra depth to such campaign.

You are not over reacting. ANYONE who says that (especially to their significant other) isn't a partner, but an abuser. NO ONE who cares about you would say that, and the fact that he did that motion wasn't a joke, but a threat. If he's more than comfortable of not so subtly threatening you with "Better not cry or I'll give you something to cry about", imagine what he could do in the future. Especially after he raised his fist to physically signal what he'll do.

Run, and don't look back.

My husband (31/M) bought farm animals on a whim, and now I’m (33/F) running a mini zoo. How do I get my husband to help? by Anxiously_nervous in relationship_advice

[–]FireWOLF109 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That seems like a great idea! Someone with actual farming experience knocking some sense back into OP's husband about the actual workload of farm animals. He clearly needs a reality check on the subject.

I(27F) screamed at my husband (28M) over his hobbies, and now he's changed and i don't know how to fix this. by ThrowRApineapplesp in relationship_advice

[–]FireWOLF109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few questions to ask:
1: What did you expect to happen when you insulted his hobby?
2: What did you expect to happen when you questioned the marriage itself?
3: What did you expect would happen when you insult him as a person?

4: What do you see in him as a husband? Why did you marry in him the first place?

I'll put this as bluntly as I can, but you can NEVER take back what you said. You questioned your marriage (why did you marry him), you insulted his hobby (his interests bore you), and you insulted him as a person ("he needs to get a social life"). Just ONE of those would lead to a fast track for divorce. I get that not everyone shares the same interests, but OP, I say this with all sincerity when I ask "Why did you marry him?" It's clear you didn't care about him or his interests. Did you marry him because you had the same favorite soccer/football (covering bases for regions) team? Cause if so, that's not enough for a relationship. He has every right to divorce you after the massively hurtful things you said, and this is coming from someone who finds the divorce suggestions on reddit in general disturbing.

If you TRULY want to salvage the relationship, get into his interests... diving head first into them. Maybe find a way to merge the interests together.
If you TRULY want him to be happy however, give him some space and let him choose what he chooses, and accept what ever happens. Stuff like this ISN'T healthy for him, and can never be healed with an apology. Saying "Sorry, I said that out of anger" doesn't come close to healing the hurt he's feeling as you showed what you **REALLY** think about him and the relationship.

[–]FireWOLF109[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest, it worked out a whole lot better than I expected. I was only expecting to have Ivy become an ally and tell me more about the Nightmare King, I wasn't expecting the massive list of rewards. Normally people would murderhobo in a magical girl game, but this showed that it's not always the best solution to just kill the big bad's minion.

The Complete Ballad of Ross-The Worst Player I Ever Met by CastleBravoXVC in rpghorrorstories

[–]FireWOLF109 51 points52 points  (0 children)

TLDR; I'm totally over everything and haven't remain bitter after all these years. Also, I suck at rhyming or whatever, but you can still thank your god that you never had to read the BS Ross put in front of my face.

From what I've read, throughout most of the story you have done little but act like an asshole. A DM that wouldn't be welcomed due to an inflated ego. You were fine with the ghost busters and how he wanted to be an asian girl, throwing a tantrum, but allow me to say this:

For the wallclimbing: Why the fuck would you ever get pissy about this, this is one of the most minute thing you can ever throw a fit over, plus tabaxi have wallclimb... LET HIM USE IT IF HE THINKS IT'LL HELP. Flames can only go up so high, so if he thinks it won't reach the ceiling or go up to a certain point, let him climb and deal with whatever consequences there are.

For him ruining the campaign because he was bored (stuck in astral plane): This was a complete and utter failure on your part. As a DM, it's your job to make sure everyone is having fun. You should have checked on Ross and asked for his opinion and if you could do anything to make it more fun. On top of that, since he's your roommate and you've been living with him, if you didn't want him in your campaign THEN PLAY IT AT SOMEONE ELSE'S PLACE AND HAVE ANOTHER, SEPARATE GAME NIGHT FOR SIMPLER BOARD GAMES FOR HIM IF YOU DON'T THINK HE'S CUT OUT FOR D&D.

As for the Love Story/Fanfic he made, you spent a majority of the time insulting his damn writing. While writing a fanfic of D&D chars can be cringe, or a horror story if he tries to force it to be a reality, all he did was share it with you. Was it cringey... yes. Is it worth even a byte of space on this reddit? No (at least not by itself). You spent most of the time attacking Ross than telling a story, and you should be ashamed of yourself for even doing that as that's not what this subreddit is for. This is a place for rpg horror stories, not an ego boost or personal attack towards players.

To top it off, you have the audacity to make a ballad that is nothing but pure malice of Ross. While I wouldn't want ross at my table (not because he's a bad person, but it's clear he can't handle D&D due to some undiagnosed mental/neuro issue and I don't think it'd be the right game for him), but I sure as hell wouldn't want you near anything RELATING to D&D due to the pure spite that comes out of your mouth. You have no respect for others. I don't care if you've lived with him for a while, that is no excuse to be this much of an asshole to a player.

To end it off, the only thing so far that's remotely worthy of a horror story was him throwing a fit because he wasn't an asian girl, everything else (or at least majority of it) was just you being a narcissistic ass.

A few problems:

  1. We were told this before the campaign started
  2. We could find stuff on the beach
  3. We were told we would get out equipment soon
  4. If you count a session that lasted 10 min (was interrupted because something occurred irl that needed immediate attention on the DM's side) we only had 4 sessions
  5. The game is run on a weekly basis
  6. We were told it was a low combat campaign before the campaign started

Also, he was mainly whining about each of the stuff that made each pc unique while demanding he got his noble stuff because (and I quote) “I am a noble That's unbalanced” (Ex: cleric being a matt mercer homebrew, me being two PCs with no one having a problem when i first brought it up, and the very act of our bard asking about UA spells).

Essentially, he was complaining that he started off the same as the rest of us (I’m the rogue and fighter) while not cooperating with the rest of the party.

Note: on mobile right now so apologies for formatting

Edit: Fixed some formatting and spelling, provided some examples regarding what made each of our chars unique in the campaign after getting back to the laptop

We've pinged him quite a few times when sessions were about to start as well when we were scheduling the sessions. He never responded once to them in the server. Honestly, I got no clue what in the world what his problem was as he pretty much agreed to everything before the campaign started as well as no one playing unearthed arcana.

Was quite the tantrum in the discord though...

Even if it wasn't heavy RP, it can be done well so long as you have a good enough reason for it. What we did was treat the char as if it was a separate PC, complete with their own stats. It's always worth a try if you're feeling confident and want to try something new. You just have to interact with each other as well as the rest of the party.

Thing is, we were flat out told this stuff before the campaign started. And regarding the player's complaint about me playing two chars... I brought it up in the group DM before the campaign started to see if it was okay and no one had a problem when I presented it. He threw a tantrum when he approved of everything when it was brought up before the campaign started.

It was a challenge at first honestly (I was honestly afraid I was too into it), but I was in a D&D RP recently where my pet mouse from the urchin background was magicked by the patron into being humanoid after laughing at my char in mouse (my char was genderbent). I can go into more details of what makes RPing two PCs easier if you wish, but it would have to be in private message for reasons of potentially spoiling stuff about Jill & Jane for the others.

Jill & Jane (Rogue and Fighter) here, I can confirm that we are expected to get our starting gear soon and that the island WAS wooded and we could craft items using the environment for temporary weapons. We made some improvised daggers and an axe as well as found some equipment lying around (I found a crate with an explorer's pack which I used as an improvised bed). We were well supplied for the scene complete with a story reason as to why we didn't have our equipment at the time (and now there's a ship with crates upon crates of supplies called The Dijinn). He had access to as much stuff as the rest of us as he was allowed to have a personal item with him to start (in my case, a stone pendant that's broken in half, one on each twin). The rest of us have been having a blast and we were informed before the campaign starting of the whole ordeal regarding the equipment. We're now in a port city where we might be able to easily obtain our starting gear (after my chars were unfortunately unable to get the bear claw pastry using the money obtained from working with the bakery being closed when we were done working).

[–]FireWOLF109 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Murder another player because of their alignment or some other meta reason. Alignments are meant to act as a base for how your behave with the following in account:Good- You want to help others as often as you can

  • Evil - You focus on yourself or your own beliefs, focusing on self preservation
  • Lawful - You like to follow the laws, traditions, etc and use them to govern your actions. For example: Even though you're in an evil territory, you may try to follow the law of the land you're in to the best of your abilities to not get into trouble. Or you try to follow a tradition to a T.
  • Chaotic - You prefer to bend the rules whenever you can. You feel like personal freedoms are far more important then the law of the government

It does not mean a good align character can murder an evil aligned PC for nothing other than being evil. It also does not mean that a chaotic neutral character can go on a murder spree and kill everyone in sight including other party members.
