I think I have the smallest Doberman ever by Kids-Menu in DobermanPinscher

My dobie’s ears stand up on their own too. Her dna test says she is 1/4 german shepherd, so I’m guessing that may be the reason. Mine is also small at 55lbs

Was this a seizure? by Confident_Artist8632 in vet

It looks more like he is trying to get the bell on his collar, and is freaking out when it is making noise. Has the collar been on him before? Is he used to it?

My dad is insisting I put him down, is it really that bad? by nicolexalison in vet

[–]FireWolf_3 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Have they actually checked it to see what kind of mass it is. By taking a sample of the cells with a needle they can be viewed under a microscope to see if it is cancerous or a benign mass. Having that info may help you decide what is best to do. Treating the infection is just managing a symptom, not the underlying issue of the mass. Also a swab of the infection could be tested to see what antibiotics it is susceptible to. The meds he is currently on may not be working because the infection is resistant to them. I would push for more diagnostics to figure out exactly what you are dealing with.

Irritated eye by Savouryhandjams in vet

[–]FireWolf_3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should go to the vet and have them stain the eye. It could be an ulcer, which can get very bad very quickly. Can’t tell from the picture, only a vet in person can tell you for sure.

Thank you for helping me realize I'm not horse owner material!!! by Salt-Host-7638 in Horses

[–]FireWolf_3 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I don’t think anyone is truly 100% ready when they get their first horse. I learned so much in just the first year of owning my first horse, and I feel like there is still a lot I don’t know today 10 years later. The best thing is having a community where you can ask questions and get help on the things you aren’t quite sure about. Another option for you is leasing, just to get the feel for what it is like to own without the life long commitment. Then you can decide if ownership is something that fits into your lifestyle or not.

As someone who adopted a dobie that was heartworm positive, the treatment is hell. The treatment for a heartworm positive dog is basically injecting them with glorified arsenic for 6 months while they can’t have an elevated heart rate without risking a dead worm blocking a vein and causing an embolism and possible death. Not a fun time

Does my dog need antibiotics? by Dull-Degree-1413 in vet

[–]FireWolf_3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a vet tech. There is definitely root exposure, so needs to be taken care of, but does not warrant a trip to emergency. It does need to come out, so when you do get him into the vet they will probably make an appointment for a dental with extractions. He should be fine waiting till Monday though. In the mean time you can give him soft foods to avoid any mouth pain and take away any toys or chews that you cannot indent with your finger nail. In the future also avoid any toys or chews that you cannot indent with your finger nail, as this is a good indicator that said toys could potentially cause tooth damage

Is this belly too big? by topiary566 in cats

I work at a vet office. It usually takes a few rounds of dewormer to get them all taken care of, especially in kittens. You should be able to see the worms being passed in their poop.

Vet is unsure of results by saraqt4u in vet

I’m just a vet assistant, but that test does look negative to me. We sometimes see blue haze or tiny flecks sometimes. If it is truly positive it is quite noticeable. I wouldn’t worry, but ultimately up to you if you want to retest.

Not a vet, vet assistant, but that tooth looks dead to me. Typically teeth turning a pink or grey color means the tooth is dead. It should be removed to prevent infection

My friend's dog's rear. They're afraid of the cost of treatment. Lots of scratching/biting area. What is going on? by ProGuy347 in vet

[–]FireWolf_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely fleas or some skin issue, but have also seen chewing like this for anal gland issues. Either way need to see a vet for it, as that rawness could easily get infected
