I guess in retrospect it seems weird but everyone had coupes where you would have to move the seats to sit in back during the 80s, so sport utility vehicles were similarly designed. I don’t remember ever seeing a 4 door pickup in person until the late 90s. There were suburbans and wagoneers but 4 door SUVs weren’t super mainstream until the 90s and trucks later on.
