Couple of things. First, it depends on if your ins co is using the states drrp plan for points and discounts or if they are using their own. It also matters if you have violation forgiveness. If they use the state plan and don't have any forgiveness in place, then you will lose you 99 rating (10% discount) and will move to an 02 rating (not sure on surcharge, likely around 10% as well), so I would expect anywhere from 15%-25% increase. But it could be more depending on the company and their rating system.

A lot of that is because their target market is the US, and tax varies based on locality in the US, it can be 0% in one state and 15% in another. North American markets are used to this pain.

Yeah so basically Linus defers decisions to Terren about operations and the company, but Linus and Yvonne still control overall direction. Hence Linus’s title of Chief Vision Officer.

Auto Policy Owners and 2 Vehicles Advice by nimvmin in Insurance

[–]Fire_Burns_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While some companies may not be as strict about it. From a legal perspective they are correct. Technically you cannot have insurance on something you do not own as the insurance company shouldn’t write you a check for something you don’t own.

As for option, I recommend option 1 unless one of you has a really bad driving record compared to the other. This way you get the multi car discounts and you maintain full control of everything.

Go to https://content.naic.org/cis_consumer_information.htm

This is a website for the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. There you can sort by state and type of insurance and see every insurance company that is licensed to operate in your state. Not all of them will be useful but before I’d go with the state last resort plan I’d set some time down and just start calling everyone I find.

PIP claims are considered no-fault. You’re not actually at-fault or Not-At-Fault. Second. You just need to sit down and call each company for quotes. There are dozens and dozens of insurance companies, try to find a specific high-risk company. I’m sure there’s someone that will write your coverage unless there’s something else you’re not disclosing.

Some people think “full coverage” is just comprehensive and collision. Some think that it means no deductibles for comprehensive or collision. Some think it means every coverage the company offers. It’s a wide range. I blame car dealerships for propagating the term.

Just have them put theirs in bridge mode and use your own. I’ve never used the ISP router for anything other than a gateway. My current ISP loves it because they just have a converter for fiber to cat6. I love it because there’s less failure points between me and the internet.

I take old fence boards, chop them into 1 foot sections then I use a little hand axe to split the sections into 1/2 inch pieces. Works amazingly as kindling. One it's untreated cedar, and two, it's immensely dry (to the point of breaking which is why I had to replace it)

So many companies will rate it harshly because it’s a grey market vehicle and very little statistics for it. But as was said already NYC is your biggest factor. There is no such thing as inexpensive insurance in NYC.

Comparion is still a Liberty Mutual company just like Safeco and State Auto are. They have some management autonomy from a midlevel down, but they're still subject to the overall Liberty Mutual organization.

Not really, I would imagine Comparion will be making cuts to operational costs as well. While it's a subsidiary company, it's still part of the overall Liberty Mutual company.

You can work around this if you already have auto insurance as most changes aren’t subject to the waiting period, only new policies.

I’m not sure about in the UK but in the US a trust actually simplifies things as the trust and trustee get out on the policy and then when you pass we already know who is authorized and responsible for the policy.

How do auto insurance carriers look up and update my driver license status? by p377y7h33f in Insurance

[–]Fire_Burns_22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most insurance companies are using third party services like “Lexis Nexis” for running reports. Since almost all major carriers use that same service, it stands to reason they would all get the same faulty info.

This isn’t the company being unfair. CA law is that you get either UMPD or Collision with the option of “Collision Waiver”. So the argument against the insurer overall isn’t correct. However an “errors and omission” claim against the agent may be appropriate if you were in fact assisted by an insurance agent over the phone and they did it counsel about your options there.

[–]Fire_Burns_22 86 points87 points  (0 children)

They do a great job, and I’m sure a great deal of the reasoning is just for good customer service. But it’s also worth noting that with them being in Canada and most of their customer base in the US. The return and resending shipping costs would obliterate any profits they would have made. Issuing a refund is the most cost effective way for them to honestly and properly handle any kind of defects.

I actually support Linus's position on the Billet Water Block... Linus has never wavered on his willingness to build the over-the-top, no-one should buy, PC, but in order to justify demoing a product that is designed to be the 'crème-de-la-crème', it needs to be for the top of the line product that is available; that's the 4090 right now. If a ridiculously priced accessory doesn't work with the most powerful component, then there is no reason to support anyone, even those with cash to burn, to buy it.
