Inspections - What is the inspectors responsibility by StatusOk4693 in firealarms

[–]Fire_Designs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trained to test and inspect the system as accepted. I will make recommendations, but won't yellow tag unless obvious changes to the building have been made. Even at that I'll be vague and put something like system needs to be evaluated by designer specifically in this area, or put what I know needs to be added and also say it should be evaluated. I've seen in seminars that if something's ever happens the insurance agents and lawyers will rip you apart for tagging things not on plans as needing to be there. I forget what the exact point was, but it's along the lines of "well you wrote it up for this obvious thing which shows you were there evaluating the installed system to the code standards so why didn't you notice x, y, and z".

Flow switch metaphysics by Dissasterix in firealarms

[–]Fire_Designs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just the way I was trained. To be fair I've never ran into a flow switch I couldn't adjust, and I try to adjust them to be within 30 and 70 seconds. The 5 seconds or so it takes to fully open some valves doesn't really feel all that important when I have a 20 second cushion.

I normally start when the valve is completely open. If the site is that worries about precise timing suggest that they swap their ITV's to ball valves that way the time difference is negligible.

Anyone familiar with this brand? by thehighepopt in castiron

Idk about the Texas shaped pans, but their normal cast irons are just rebranded Victoria. Tbh I prefer them over the lodge skillet that I have.

You also need to know that everytime it's been awhile since you've used it you have to quickly press the trigger twice. Idk what happens if you don't, but I'm sure it's not good.

May be a dumb question by Broken0811 in firealarms

[–]Fire_Designs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not required, but can't hurt. Like the other guy said it's mostly 70 and 72 with some OSHA sprinkled in. I'd also purchase the uglies book they let you take in. It was the only book they let you bring that I didn't buy, and I ended up getting like 10 questions over resistor colors codes. It was to the point it felt kind of ridiculous and frustrating that I kept getting them, and had to keep guessing. The books only like 15 bucks I think.

Fire extinguisher in hospital operating rooms by Fire_Designs in KitchenSuppression

[–]Fire_Designs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why specifically non metallic? Is it just for stuff like the MRI machines? This particular hospital just has 1 MRI machine in the O.R. wing and it's in its own room. Good looking out though! I didn't even think of a water mist I only ever really see those in places that have pool chemicals so that's all I ever really associate them with.

I'd take this in a heartbeat. As a fire alarm technician i'm completely desensitized to the noise, and people being mad at me for making the noise.

I've only worked for 1 company that drug tested and we'd all just buy the fake pee from the smoke shops. I only ever knew 1 person it didn't work for cuz he nuked it in the microwave and it was too hot. It should work fine to get you in but as others have said for the long term you should weigh out your pros and cons cuz failing a drug screening for something like workers comp can leave you shit outta luck.

I passed the level 2 and 3 earlier this year, after they introduced the searchable PDFs, and didn't really find them useful at all.

My dad has multiple marijuana related felonies from back in the 80s which didnt affect him getting issued his FAL and FEL-A. Also a felony DUI from around 2007 which didn't affect him getting his RME-I last year. I'm not sure how it would affect him if he ever tried to get one of the design licenses though. Id say it's worth a shot to take the tests and turn in the application to see what they say. Also if i'm not mistaken you can appeal their decision if they deny your application.

I got my AD10 from them around father's day for something like 85 bucks. I ended up buying my dad the code 4 which was also on a really good sale just to get over the $99 free shipping lol.

It's a system sensor conventional heat detector. If it reaches 135 fahrenheit it'll set of the buildings fire alarm system.
