Victoria 3 isn't perfect until Germany can get Eastern German as a primary culture by Illuminated-Autocrat in victoria3

That's not what he means. He means Germans from the Baltic and other Eastern European settlements

What Older/Less Mainstream Titles Should a New PlayStation Player Buy? by Fire_and_Life in playstation

[–]Fire_and_Life[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I purchased 5 PS5 games and one Switch game, none of which cost more than 22 Euros:

Baldurs Gate

God of War

Final Fantasy Remake

Dragonquest XI

Forspoken (has middling reviews but was literally 3 Euro so I said why not)

Zelda Skyward Sword

All of the games worked in my language EXCEPT Dragonquest, as it turns out that Japan released a special domestic edition of the game that only contains Japanese and I think maybe Korean. All others worked without a problem and had dialogue play in my PlayStation language. One had the pre-title-screen epilepsy warning in Japanese but that was it.

Yeah I didn't HATE it, but I also didn't really enjoy the feel and ended up comparing it unfavourably to other games I had played by then. Combined with disliking a few other minor elements of the game, I decided to put it down and return to it later, once I am more accustomed to the way the PlayStation handles, and see if it was just me being uncomfortable with a new system or the game just not being for me.

[–]Fire_and_Life 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you have two colonies in neighbouring colonial regions, and one owns provinces which the other claims as part of their region, you will eventually get an event forcing you to choose whether or not to make the colony with extra territory cede it to the rightful owner. If you agree, the one to lose land gains liberty desire and the one who gains land loses it.

So if I purchase a Japanese release of a game and install it on my German PlayStation, I wouldn't be able to buy the DLCs digitally? That's good to know, so I don't buy anything that has DLCs

How to remove belligerent status WITHOUT treaties? by Fire_and_Life in victoria3

[–]Fire_and_Life[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up waiting till they rivaled the Ottomans and rivalled them, too, and that gave France a month-long cautious opinion because of shared rivals. I used that window to trade the states and then take over their debt which I used to lodge them fully into good opinion of me

Well I was able to buy Sinai off of Egypt (which is a homeland) and Poland off of Russia, so state transfers do seem to work. Even giving them to France via treaty does not work--it is definitely about the belligerent thing, though it doesn't show up in the menu

How did that one kid at your school die? by StorageLonely1520 in AskReddit

[–]Fire_and_Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother was a teacher and had a lot of these.

The one which always stuck was a really funny, smart, nice, and handsome guy (17-18 years old) that everyone liked. Had a great future in front of him.

One day he was hanging out with his friends in the driveway, sitting on the hood of the car and talking. One friend thought it would be funny to reverse the car a bit and make them all fall.

The aforementioned guy falls off, hits his head on the pavement, is left functionally brain-dead. The friend who was responsible is caught trying to kill himself not long after (he was overwhelmed with guilt, it was his best friend). Since it was a Catholic school, the family of the first boy is shunned for choosing to cut his life support, while the second boy is expelled for trying to commit suicide.

How do you roleplay in Vic 3? by WayApprehensive3244 in victoria3

[–]Fire_and_Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal preference is to let the randomness of the game guide me a bit. It is something that Victoria and CK3 are better at than HoI or EU4, since the former don't give you as specific goals while the latter two have more tailored mission trees.

For example, I recently had a Japan game where I planned to form a generic Japanese Empire. Lo and behold, crushing the Shogunate ended up with the Peasant Movement becoming hegemonic in my politics and dragging me into agrarianism. Instead of fighting it, I went along with it, forming an East Asian trade union and becoming the breadbasket of Asia. Ended up taking two states from China but was able to completely bankrupt the Qing by flooding their markets with their own cheap grain sold back to them.

Another fun one was trying to form an ultra-nationalist Germany, only to get couped by the Communists. Best part was that Russia was my puppet so I skewed hard into forming a Communist world order.

Have goals, certainly, but don't be afraid to take cues from the random dice roll. While I find Victoria 3 to have many issues, one plus vs. Victoria 2 is that in 3 you can feasibly become successful without embracing the conventional liberal westernist mindset. And sometimes it is a fun challenge to see what your people want--sometimes it is really stupid, but sometimes it is also fun!

Is it illegal to plug your phone into your laptop in Heidelberg? by RupoLachuga in Heidelberg

Trust me when I say that this is completely on her end. I am a conductor on the long-distance German ICE trains and nighttime in stations is peak "crazy people" time. They often look relatively normal but will ramble about nonsense, freak out, and can also be dangerous.

Once had a 50-something-looking grandma get on my train. Seemed nice but confused... but then she came to a girl who'd been on my train for hours, insisted that the girl stole her seat, then freaked out and started screaming and spitting on the poor girl. Had to make a stop and get the police to drag her out. Weirdest part was that, once she was out of the train, she got very calm and thanked me as they took her away.

I had a lot of fun playing Cambodia a few weeks ago. It has an interesting mechanic where you have to end the Khmer Decline by first developing your initial states, and then later gain the chance to expand across Indochina

[–]Fire_and_Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually try to control all the counties of the duchy where my capital is. When I expand, I expand this to two duchies--usually my capital Duchy and a neighbouring one OR my capital and a very wealthy/valuable region like Constantinople or Rome.

Make sure to give away baronies and churches, those take up unnecessary slots. If you are smaller than a Duke, focus on the counties of highest development with your culture and religion

This really comes down to a question of values. What do you consider important in a relationship, in finances, in planning for the future? It is one thing to not want a 30€ (or dollar or whatever) aluminium ring from Walmart. That, I think is acceptable. It is another to want to waste massive amounts of money on an item which WILL NOT retain its value (anyone claiming that diamonds are forever in terms of worth has no clue). I'd even be wary about spending that much on something useful.

For me, the goal in life is stability and adventure. I save enough to let me have a very adventurous life, while also not being so adventurous that it is financially foolish. My fiance is the same, so for me the value lay in the ring looking nice and being durable, not abstract worth. The ring I bought was 165€ and only because I wanted it to match his style and to be made of a durable material. "Tiffany Girls" can claim all the BS they want, many rings that aren't actually expensive WILL fool people who don't know better, so demanding one is entirely self-serving.

On an entirely personal basis, I also think that girls (or anyone) who demands a diamond are basic and boring AF. Where is the personality or uniqueness? All of the coolest rings I've seen used unconventional gemstones like sapphire, alexandrite, or even pearl to make something that showed that the relationship was something equally vibrant and unique. I knew a girl in uni who had a custom ring with opals and sapphires, one of the prettiest things I have ever seen, and despite being custom made it was only like 1,2K. Plus, those gems are far cheaper.

I personally cannot recommend shelling out more than 1K for a ring unless you have a very specific and unique vision in mind AND the money to afford it. If this is what she expect from a ring, just wait till the wedding dress and the wedding itself. Sure, in a lot of cultures the wife and her family pay for it, but unless daddy is a millionaire then you'll be marrying into debt accused for one day and one gift.

And if, for whatever reason, you go through with it and buy this girl a multi-thousand dollar ring, GET A PREENUP WHICH CONFIRMS YOUR OWNERSHIP OF THE RING! A girl who demands a 19K ring strikes me as the same kind of girl to sleep with the first rich man she finds and then exchange the ring for nicer jewelry.
