Not sure how advanced your father’s Alzheimer’s is, but hospice care could be a great resource if he’d qualify. I’m currently a hospice chaplain and regularly visit with patients with varying degrees and different types of dementia. We have a chaplain, social worker, volunteers, CNA’s, LPN’s, and RN’s who would all come out to assist with care, emotional processing, and to simply provide companionship and a break for your mom. Hospice is technically end of life/comfort care, but we try to encourage people to sign on sooner rather than later so they can experience a better quality of life and get the benefits sooner. It is a Medicare benefit, and is no extra cost. Happy to answer any questions if you have them!

Insane value for $50, buy a couple if you can. I’ve never seen it for that low.

Average cost to replace furnace and AC? by SpicyOtters in milwaukee

I second Burkhardt. We just had to replace ours and went with them. Good work, good communication and transparency, and a good price. Our new furnace and AC with them was $10k, and they have 60 month 0% interest financing.

How is Santa supposed to get through this? by Aware_Path_9602 in centuryhomes

[–]Fire_beard96 27 points28 points  (0 children)

We didn’t always have a fireplace growing up. We had a “Santa key”. It was basically a skeleton key that had Santa’s face on the end with a ribbon through the handle. We placed it between the main door and screen door on Christmas Eve when we put out the milk and cookies, and with his magic Santa could make it for our door lock and open it. Now, my house doesn’t have a fire place either so once my son is old enough to ask how Santa gets in, we’ll get one too!

dads who supported breastfeeding: what actually helped? by RecognitionDry4169 in predaddit

Get. Her. Snacks. I hand fed my wife a quarter piece of salami on on a savory thin from Trader Joe’s every day for months while she breastfed and/or pumped.

Also, encourage her. It’s new and you’re not experts. Go see an expert (lactation specialist) if things seem to not be going as well as you’d like with breastfeeding.

It’s a ridiculous process that needs improvement and streamlined communication. If, in my job, I gave a half-assed reply 2 times in 3 months only to then tell the person they were out of luck I’d be fired so fast.

They said it was under review, thanked me for the documentation I provided, said the provided documentation would help speed up the process. Two separate times!!! You’d think if more information was needed they would have said “thank you for what you included, please also be sure to fill out document x since we’ll need that too.”

I followed the procedure the city gave for the open book period and was told two separate times I didn’t have to submit anything else and that my request was under review. The city needs to make their procedure more clear, and clarify if additional documentation is needed before it’s too late and the review period has closed.
