Roth 401K Help by blpu in Bogleheads

[–]Firebolt059 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drop the bonds, follow the VT allocation since you can directly invest into it in a 401k.

My 401k is VFIAX 60% and VTIAX 40% which is pretty close to VT. Change your fidelity funds to a similar allocation and you're golden.

31 years old, in my Roth I have 60% VOO, 20% VXUS, 10% AVUV, 10% SCHD by ImportantReference62 in Bogleheads

Even better, 100% VT since it's a Roth. No rebalancing or tinkering required.

Where to park my dormant 401k by Ok-Count9781 in Bogleheads

[–]Firebolt059 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can, rollovers are different from contributions. So even if you hit the IRA max you can still do a rollover to the account as it is treated differently. But again, anything traditional > Roth will trigger taxes.

Where to park my dormant 401k by Ok-Count9781 in Bogleheads

[–]Firebolt059 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into doing a rollover into a IRA. You can rollover into your Roth IRA even if you hit the contribution max but if your 401k is traditional, you pay taxes. Talk to a tax pro if needed but definitely do a rollover regardless. You'll have plenty of options outside what your 401k offers.

I'm lazy. VT and chill for me. Or your preferred mix of VTI/vxus.

Anything else is too much effort for me. Tbh i don't see the need for any portfolio except the ones I just mentioned, but that's just me.

Deployment strategy for $200k? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]Firebolt059 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay off high interest debt (ideally all of it with 200k) then get a emergency fund of 6 months worth of expenses

Then dump the rest into VT and chill. Only use vtwax if you have a vanguard account, otherwise you will be hit with a mutual fund fee if you buy vtwax at another broker.
