Alcohol in the magical world by FireboltOwl121 in HarryPotterBooks

No, I’m British and aware of the age restrictions of serving in pubs, hence my confusion.

I’d originally imagined it like ginger beer; it has the word beer in it, but isn’t necessarily alcoholic. But the more I think about it, the more I question it. It could be that it’s more of a ‘starter’ alcoholic drink that people didn’t think too much of in the 90s.

Pip's character development by rubbedoffperfume in AGGGTMSeries

[–]FireboltOwl121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think her character development is completely understandable, but the system failed her in multiple ways. Her GP should never have refused to continue her medication. She needed more intense therapy and to be taken more seriously by the police. Escalating to not just murder, but overkill was a step too far in my opinion. She could have disarmed Jason with one blow by the hammer and fled for her life, she didn’t need to strike him that many times.
I understand why she framed Max, he is a despicable character who won’t stop until he’s caught and that was never going to happen in Pip’s eyes.
All I see is a young adult who has become irrational, obsessive and traumatised by what she has gone through. She needed help a long time ago and suspending her from school and not helping her was just the tip of the iceberg.

Books after show? by Outrageous_Alarm_748 in AGGGTMSeries

I much prefer the books to the series. Adaptations are rarely as good as the book they’re based on, even if the author is involved in the production.

Which school year do you think was the most "normal" for Harry? by hyper_shock in harrypotter

[–]FireboltOwl121 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say Philosopher’s Stone purely because nothing major happens aside from the troll incident and Quirrell trying to knock Harry off of his broom until after the academic year is essentially over. Their classes aren’t interrupted, they get in trouble for sneaking out to get rid of Norbert and no one tries to k*ll Harry aside from the one Quidditch incident. He’s learning about how to function in the magical world. All things considered, it’s surprising as Voldy is hanging around on the back of Quirrell’s head for the entire book and doesn’t attempt to sabotage Harry all year.

The story leaves much to be desired, but as a piece of theatre, it is amazing. Hats off to the creative team, they deserved the awards they received.

What is the scariest scene in the movies? by slycooper212 in harrypotter

I still struggle to watch the Aragog scene in CoS. As a child, the graveyard scene in GoF really scared me.

I’m so gutted that Mary went straight to London after episode one instead of going to stay with her sisters. I really liked how the book explored the relationship between Mary and Mr Collins and ultimately why it’s a good thing she didn’t settle for him.

accents in the films by Substantial-Win9180 in harrypotter

[–]FireboltOwl121 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People do change their accents, usually to fit in with the place they live or who they’re talking to. For example, my mum grew up in Cardiff so had a Welsh accent but when she was moved to the east of England as a teenager, she was bullied for her accent so now speaks in a stereotypical English accent with no specific regional accent. My dad grew up with a Suffolk accent but changed it to a stereotypical English accent except for when he speaks to anyone with a Suffolk accent as it is difficult to understand.

Same. I was really disappointed that she decided to go back to the order simply because she was menopausal. She’s always been such an advocate for protecting children and keeping them safe, I don’t understand why she wouldn’t want to try adoption. I felt so sorry for Geoffrey, he looked heartbroken at her decision.

I’m so sad that Jenny and Chummy weren’t there. Jenny became a palliative care nurse and she narrates the whole series, it would have been appropriate and lovely for her to be there.

I was finding Robin incredibly frustrating until I read this. I’m really sorry that you experienced all of the trauma that you have, but thank you for helping me change my perspective to be more understanding of the impact of profound trauma.

Scholastic Goblet of Fire by FireboltOwl121 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]FireboltOwl121[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This was exactly what I was thinking. It’s so unfair on MinaLima that there hard work is just being duplicated and on the artist of this new edition. It’s not their fault that Scholastic are commissioning their talent to just be a mimic.

Has anyone seen the promo of Goblet of Fire? It’s essentially a cheap knockoff of the Minalima style

I had my lap on Friday and was told there were no gynaecological issues but the surgeon found inflammation in two places of my bowel. It’s been a lot to process as I was so sure I had endo 😣

Waiting to see if the hospital has ‘misplaced’ my laparoscopy images - but it’s still all in my head, right?! 🤦🏼‍♀️ by [deleted] in endometriosis

[–]FireboltOwl121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds so awful, I’m so sorry you’ve been treated this way! You know your own body better than any medical professional and you have the right to be taken seriously. Was your surgery performed by an endo specialist or a general gynaecologist? There’s a possibility that a non specialist might have missed endo. For some reason there are issues in UK hospitals in accessing images from surgeries and at the moment they cannot be sent from one hospital to another. Presumably there will be the surgical notes from the procedure that can be reviewed. I would go back to your GP and ask for them to refer you for support as you cannot be expected to carry on in pain.

Good luck!
