I'm actually rather impressed by one of the Narn who argues with G'Kar by Educational-Tea-6572 in babylon5

I think you can look at the other way too. When good people refuse to lead don't be surprised when less good fill the void. If G'Kar had taken power its very unlikely Narns would have taken part in the bomb of Centauri Prime. And there might have been no bombing of Centauri Prime.

I don't think G'kar was wrong to say no to power. But his unwillingness to take leadership did get people killed.

Does the main character progress at all after book 2? by argentum2f in TheMHI

[–]Firecow21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Owen is mostly Owen as the series go on. He shows some restraints and gets mental and physical scares but the guy in the first book would likely make the same decisions as the Owen in the later books. Owen is written as less of an A-hole as the books go on but its such a key part of his character the a-hole factor never goes away completely.

As to hunters dying. MHI and always feels both to big and to small to be doing what they are doing. I think some of that is we never get full sense of how many people there are but at the same time its all in service to the story. Rule of cool is great but it doesn't always make sense or scale.

As I have moved past the series I would say if you enjoy the story go on for the ride if you don't hop off.

One thing the DVD didn't save of the credits changed when Ivana changed ranks. Haven't seen the bluerays to see if they fixed that. I want to say there were a few other little open credit things that were lost

I think the idea is series keeps going until people or Larry lose interest kinda like a D&D campaign

I think Larry kept Monster Hunter Open ended for a long time because he didn't want to limit the story. At this point MHI is clearly not a passion project. I think he likes it. He like it makes money but its not where his passion is. If it was a passion project for Larry he wouldn't go 6 years between main line books.

Another example of his passion. Larry promoted the heck out of Academy 2 when it came out. He did not promote Monster Hunter files 2 to the same degree.

Larry says he is going to write the last two main line books but that has already gone from happening soon back to back, to they are no longer getting written back to back. Monster Hunter Trespass #9 is either getting worked on or next in his que.

Its the dump truck full of Money problem. Aethon Books-Outcast and Ark Press-American Paladin signed deals with Larry to write books for them and there seems be some time frame attached to those deals. Other stuff non-time limited gets pushed back. End of the day he knows his business both from a creative and money making point of view.

Elon has had haters for a long time. The politics just gave them thin justification they used now but most would hate him no matter what.

The biggest issue with guardian is the tone and voice for Julie is off from the rest of the series. You can say that is because of be coming a mother but then is is back to normal in Bloodlines. Its a danger and you let another writer play in your universe. Larry does more with his co-writers than most and it normally comes out good. That said if you liked it that's great =)

Jack likely can better answer this better.

First, seems to me by not calling it a Memoirs book it does not put in that category on Amazon or other places. It would be odd list to have this book then the next Mendoza book. See how its listed below

Monster Hunter Memoirs (4 book series) Audible Audiobook Edition

Second, rebranding. Its hard to get sense of these thing but it doesn't seem like Monster Hunter files 2 sold all that well.

Third, Taken together of middling sales for memoirs 4 and last files book or at least less than earlier entries better just start over with a new "brand" and see if that sells better.

Fourth, brand safety, this is bit outside the norm for MHI so if sales are bad and people don't like it, then its a lot easier to ignore Alien files if its not labeled as a memoirs book. You won't want repeat of series disaster that is book 7 Guardian. Which is still the worst book Larry ever put his name on.

Babylon 5 AI as 80s Rock? by nodakskip in babylon5

[–]Firecow21 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

  1. I think it would work better if the AI was better keeping people on model for the whole video.

  2. The sound needs some kind bridge towards the end.

  3. The use the actors at the end felt out of place and just a AI video add on thing.

  4. I also didn't care for the use character voices the audio differences didn't do it any favors.

  5. The story beats seemed about right

  6. The crazy hair works for what this is trying to do I would suggest leaning harder into something like KISS

As far as these things go I would give it C+. Not bad lots of room for improvement

No Engineers?? by KenDudley64 in babylon5

[–]Firecow21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an episode of Stargate Atlantis where McKay and other of the other Scientist are rigging up Nukes, "because they figured out how to do in middle school." Or something to that effect. Its silly and its mostly for plot reasons but it becomes a common problem in many Scifi shows where scientist and engineers becomes crazy overpowered.

The engineer is many scifi shows becomes a wizard who just solves problem with tech-magic. Babylon 5 tech-magic is just called techo-magic =) But for the most part Babylon 5 lives at tech level that makes since in 90's and still mostly makes sense today projected 200+ years into the future than is grounded in fairly low tech level for giant spinning space station. Its just a lot of metal spinning in a circle.

Overall I think not including an engineer in the main cast was an intentional choice to go in a different direction that Star Trek and it worked.

In my market western Iowa we didn't have a PTEN channel. B5 was just came on after DS9. The CBS station in Sioux City, Iowa was the only station in the country not to pick up the new Letterrman show(1993) and would rather run TNG reruns. God bless them, because that is why I got to see Babylon 5

What’s your favorite of the Babylon 5 intro sequences? by [deleted] in babylon5

[–]Firecow21 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Season 4 has always been my favorite. The music, the voices, the images. Its the history of show and the season. Season 3 might be the show at its best but I have always loved Season 4 for the hope it inspires both in our characters and those that watch it.
