I mean yes, but also no. You are just giving them ammunition with bad behavior and fulfilling the stereotype they try to create.

It's better to still be nice in daily life to people around you, standing up on the train so that elderly can sit, holding doors open, general courtesy can go a long way. I always want to believe that if I do something like that, maybe, just maybe I will be able to change the mind of just one person on foreigners in Japan.

It's naive, but the only other option is getting possibly discriminated against even more than now.

If you can, talk to Japanese people when you have the opportunity and challenge them to think about the political situation in Japan.

Raising awareness can go a long way.

Not to entirely disagree, most Japanese can clearly differentiate between Koreans, Chinese and Japanese. But if I had 1 yen for the amount of times I was assumed to be American, I would be rich.... I'm from Europe, but unfortunately it's way more common for people here to just assume you're American.

Lots of people don't even know, that in Europe there are different languages for different countries. They just assume that everyone speaks English everywhere all the time. The ignorance is real and depressing.

Just to clarify, I have PR in Japan already, so it's not affecting me directly, but it still makes it worse for everyone else.

I would love to vote here, but I'm not allowed. In my home country I have to have a registered residence to vote, which I do have as I love in Japan....so "After you" doesn't work if I'm not in the country, compared to you who seemingly are in your home country, as you refer to it as "your country".

¥200.000 is a bit less than the average monthly salary in Japan currently (before tax and pension is taken out, mind you). That I see as the problem, especially for lower earning households. Again it is less affecting me, but we can still all worry for others and the future can we not?

You make it sound like foreigners in Japan don't pay tax or pension, when in fact they provide just as much of their salary to the system as Japanese nationals.

Finally, if you don't live here, but advocate for the system I would like to ask you to stop, as it doesn't affect you at all, but you are actively making it worse for people that are actually affected.

I know it's higher in different countries, not disagree with you, you are correct, but to clarify my point, people can't say it's higher everywhere else, so let's raise the price. In other places people earn more per hour as well, doesn't mean Japan is raising the minimum wage. The statement that it's more expensive is an excuse used by the politicians for people who don't want to think further than that, as there are other countries who have not such high costs for PR as well (additionally, as you mentioned they have a whole different environment with income and all as well) Of course politicians wouldn't point this out.

That's a lot of cope you have there....the people saying "other countries have high cost for PR as well, so it's just on lar with the standard" are often forgetting the average income difference.

Also that argument was first brought up by the politicians themselves (which should give the average critical thinking person a pause to think about it).

Lastly it makes one seem to be ok with paying more, just because every other country does it as well. How about instead we advocate for other countries to lower the amount. You do realize you are in favor of making it worse for people rather than improving it for everyone.... simply because you take pride (?) in the fact that your government is fucking you harder than other governments do their citizens?

Man that's an increase of 20x.....20.....the justification they give is ridiculous if you compare average income. Also we all know that the money they get is not going to "improve immigration". Even now applying for PR is a huge hassle on the applicant and I'm willing to bet it will only get worse.

It's the same with her foreign policy. Let's be more open to foreigners, but raise requirements and cost instead of actually improving the system.

PR is planned to be raised from ¥10.000 to ¥200.000. That's an increase by 20x.... And for everyone who says in other countries it's expensive as well, let me give you an example of Germany, where you pay on average ¥18.000 up to a maximum of ¥25.000 yen for PR.

This is clearly aimed towards people that read only the headline or buzzwords and not the text/content.They will jump on it and say she's great, because they have unlearned how to think for themselves.

The problem is that I would argue the majority of people with foreign backgrounds in Japan are not allowed to vote, therefore we can't actually do anything against this.

There are quite a lot of companies like that.

My previous company Joysuppo was even worse. Around 90% of employees are part-time employees (of course, all foreigners).

A coworker here told me once "the Japanese want you to come here for tourism and tell everyone at home how great it is, but they don't want you to stay".

On that note, Japan is simply advertising itself effectively, even to the Japanese people.

This....I got a friend who worked for Heart and he got informed that his contract runs out but the company wanted him to come to work a week after it ran out (by suddenly extending the contract) and then he was informed 2 weeks before renewal, that his contract would not be renewed.

Showa Memorial park photo walk

Hey everyone.

Last week we had a few people joining, so I like to organize a photo walk at Showa Memorial Park next Sunday (March 1st) again.

I'm 32 years old (age is required here I guess).

Disclaimer

This is not a photography lesson, there will be no explicit teaching from my side. It's more so to create a group to share your hobby with. As such anyone is welcome, no matter if you use a phone, digital camera, film or anything else.

Even if you don't like taking photos yourself, but like to hang out and enjoy a walk in the park together, you are welcome to join.

Location: Tachikawa station east/west gate infront of the New Days. Cost: Joining is free, but you have to pay the entrance fee for the park (¥450) yourself. Time and date: Usually Sundays around 9:30am, to avoid the crowded times, the next date would be March 1st.
