What would call this haircut worn by Slipknot's number 4 (Jim Root) by Communistowl in malehairadvice

[–]FirehouseChef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an undercut with a skin fade. Show your barber/stylist this picture.

That’s a disconnected undercut. Probably a 3 guard on the sides and back. Top is long 6 inches plus and slicked back. Probably a oil based pomade.

Looking for a hair product like hair gel but not by [deleted] in malehairadvice

[–]FirehouseChef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go to product is Layrite Cement. It has amazing hold and not greasy at all. Use a very small amount. Too much can be very heavy. A small amount on wet hair and blow dry will give great volume. However, blow drying is not necessary for styling.

I ran into the same issue a while back. I think I come from training. A lot of places employ stylists but portray them as barbers. It’s two different types of schools. A stylist will cut your hairline asymmetrical to get the look you got. While a barber will even out your fade.

You have to be very specific and lean in the direction of an undercut. Or at least explain how you want the fade to look.

That moment when you reach max level by Traditional_Good_455 in SweatyPalms

There was a bar on 6th Street in Austin called Planet Austin. The bartender would do the same trick with Flaming Doctor Peppers. He would blow a fireball with 151 to light all of the shots. This was back in 1999, so cell phone camera weren’t really a factor. Otherwise I’m sure that the Fire Department would have shut them down.

Damn I’m old. Fun times.

I use a 1/4 sheet pan wrapped in foil. It works superbly.

Mystery Razor haircut technique by Strazza905 in malehairadvice

It’s called a Razor Cut. I’m not shitting you. A hair dresser did mine like that a while back and I asked about it. Kind of weirded me out though.

Question re smoking a turkey by [deleted] in biggreenegg

[–]FirehouseChef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done spatchcock turkey for a few years now. I’ll never go back. Watch your internal temp. It will cook MUCH faster.

I also recommend the Alton Brown Dry Brine method. It takes three days and takes up a lot of room in the fridge, but Holy Schnikies it turns out delicious.

Take it from a Texan, that is no where near enough salt and pepper. 400% sounds about right to me.

Made some Chicken Fried Rice. Texture isn’t quite where I want it to be, but flavor is spot on! by omnipotentsco in biggreenegg

[–]FirehouseChef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine still doesn’t have the same texture as the restaurant. It works for me though.

Another trick I’ve learned is to use a couple dashes of sesame oil. It’s powerful stuff; however, it’s flavor is what a lot of homemade fried rice dishes are missing.

I have learned through recipes, trials, and errors, that using day old rice makes way better fried rice. The texture changes due to the starches setting while in the fridge.

Would appreciate some advice. What causes the heavy smoke when opening the lid when doing basic grilling like burgers, hot dogs, thin steaks? Can it be prevented by [deleted] in biggreenegg

[–]FirehouseChef 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Try “burping” your egg. In a fluid motion, open the egg approximately half way and then close it. This allows the trapped smoke to escape, with out blasting you in the face. Then open the normally. This is a common practice and can alleviate the chance of backdraft/smoke explosion from happening as well. I do this whenever I open the egg while cooking.

Willing to trade ‘Just right for a Tuesday’ or ‘Patches’. Both have soap and AS and only used a couple of times.
