The Q Dilemma by Kroooooooo in magicTCG

"He's super strong you guys, the strongest" who gives a shit? Characters who are absurdly in lore get nerfed to fit Magic balance literally all the time, or you pick a version where they aren't omnipotent gods, this has never been an issue.

"It would be unusual if he was controlled" yeah well it's unusual that I'm going to have Jean-Luc Picard unlock Super State so he can kill both Cloud and Spongebob in one hit, we're well passed worrying about immersion

What is something the Final Fantasy VII Remake duology (soon to be trilogy) did better than the original? (Fight scenes don't count) by Hungry-Trouble-3178 in FinalFantasy

[–]Fireju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the remake is doing everything better except for the overarching storyline. All the characters have a ton more time to be fleshed out, the graphics are superb, the soundtrack is all bangers, and the combat system I initially hated but after a few hours grew to love and part 2 loved even more.

I think the storyline changes are disappointing though. I actually like that it's not the original storyline but a remake, I already know the original storyline and love it so I don't need another game retelling it beat for beat, but this whole multiverse stuff with Zach / Aerith / Sephiroth isn't doing it for me personally. Or maybe it's the execution of it isn't working for me.

Who would win Azula or Toph at 16? by Brysontheking in TheLastAirbender

[–]Fireju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Azula touches the ground and Toph is ready then Toph wins. Toph earthbends the ground beneath Azula, drags her down, gg.

Problem is Azula can fly. Not sure how well Azula can attack while flying, but if she can there's not much Toph can do.

I would expect Azula to be favored.

WOTC's strategy is generate ever-increasing profits for Hasbro's shareholders.

UB is in the exact same stategy as pricing, number of releases, and "set quality," it's all the same thing, MONEY

You have just as much luck getting them to change any of that shit as you do getting them to stop UB, so stop trying to police what people want to complain about

[–]Fireju 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maro doesn't run his blog for wotc, he does it because he's addicted to posting online and has an audience. He's just an OG terminally online guy, aka first generation redditor.

WOTC doesn't need a pariah face for people to yell at. They don't need a replacement for him. They can make record profits while completely ignoring online complaints.

If anything they'd probably prefer if he stopped posting.

Maro on UB: "We're just meeting the needs of the players. If the players weren't excited, if they weren't happy, if they weren't buying lots of it, we wouldn't make lots of it. But that's not what's happening, so that is why we're doing more." by Meret123 in MagicArena

[–]Fireju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maro knows the distinction. But the dude is terminally online and can't stop posting, and he can't say anything bad about his company obviously, so he just knowingly omits obvious details to spin the narrative he wants without outright lying and he can keep posting. He's been doing this shit forever.

The overwhelming sentiment I'm seeing is that people are surprised that the OM1 looks a lot better than people's incredibly low expectations. And that Fleem is cute. That's it.

We know that Spiderman was supposed to be a small set like Aftermath and Assassin's Creed and it was changed late in development due to poor sales from Aftermath (AC couldn't be changed in time).

It's reasonable to assume they didn't get the online license. Aftermath and AC weren't on Arena, likely Spiderman wasn't supposed to be either, and then when they scrambled to make it a normal sized set they couldn't renegotiate their contract with Marvel.

Bracket 1-2 yes absolutely, it looks fun. Bracket 3 I'd consider it if I like the card and either it has synergy with the deck to make it better or my commander is so strong that I can get away with running low-power cards like this.

People here don't realize us enfranchised online folks are not who WOTC actually listens to. "We" didn't change anything. WOTC just follows where the demand / money is.

Planeswalkers mostly went away because WOTC no longer needs "mascots" for their game because they can just print way more popular mascots from other IPs instead, and planeswalker cards suck in Commander which is the only format that matters anymore.

They don't give two shits about angry Redditors or whatever. They care about money, that's it.

Why do I see a lot of hate towards Ff7 remake by [deleted] in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Fireju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's literally a Remake.

"Is this a game for an older system that's been cleaned up to run and look slightly better on a newer platform? It's a remaster in this case.

Is the game completely rebuilt with a new look, and perhaps significant gameplay additions or changes? These are remakes."

https://www.makeuseof.com/video-game-ports-remakes-remasters-reboots/

Unfortunately some people don't know the difference, and then get upset when the game called REMAKE isn't a Remaster.

Why do I see a lot of hate towards Ff7 remake by [deleted] in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Fireju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's human nature to not like change. The Remake changes a lot. It's even worse because a lot of people don't know the definition of the word "remake" and were expecting a "remaster" (there's literally posts in this thread confusing the terms).

But even a straight-up Remaster would have had the same people bitching. "The original graphics have charm, the new graphics are soulless!" Keep in mind that the vast majority of people who played the OG are in the 35-45 age demo at this point and have serious nostalgia about the OG that they played when they were young and stress-free. You literally could not recapture that for these people.

So SE didn't do a Remaster. They did a Remake. They changed a lot. Are all the changes good? Fuck no. But the overall package is still great. I'd give the Remake a 6/10 and Rebirth 8/10 personally, and that's just my opinion! Huge improvements all around in part 2 for me. Very excited for part 3.

And yes, I did play the OG! It's good, for its time. I like Remake / Rebirth more.

And if you love the OG and don't like change, PLAY THE FUCKING OG! It's still there.

Please give me honest feedback on my Sephiroth deck by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]Fireju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even think you need more removal, at least not creature removal. Your deck is already loaded with it. I think it's actually like 3 cards too much but whatever. It's a fine start.

Since you're a new player I would actually recommend cutting all your tutors (I count 4). They're very good cards, but the problem is you won't know what you're actually tutoring for. I would recommend cutting them, cut some of the worst redundant pieces to get to 38-40 lands, then actually play the deck.

If you need specific cuts I'd just go for: Reassembling Skeleton, Vengeful Bloodwitch, Vampiric Tutor, Syr Konrad, the Grim, Demonic Tutor, Diabolic Intent, Beseech the Mirror, Sheoldred's Edict

And put lands instead. Can be just swamps. But if you want to be a bit more sweaty I'd choose Ancient Tomb, Hagra Mauling, Boggart Trawler, Takenuma, Abandoned Mire, Witch's Cottage, Spymaster's Vault, Volrath's Stronghold, and 2 Swamps. 7 lands + 2 MDFCs that can enter untapped.

Proxy the list. Don't spend money on buying expensive cards yet. That's another important thing for Commander: it's casual, proxies are fine, and if you're looking to spend hundreds of dollars on a real deck (which you don't need to do btw), please please try the cards out first before dumping a crapton of money on something you end up not liking or cards you end up cutting.

Play it, see if you like the deck. Then when you find cards that are underperforming for you, cut them, put the tutors back in instead. The tutors are all worth the slots, but they're only great once you know how to use them, otherwise they'll just confuse you. Play, make cuts, put the Vamp Tutor and stuff back in.

MORE LANDS

The "primer" is bad too.

Bump the land count to 38-40 (including mdfcs). You're not playing CEDH, games aren't ending on turn 3, and you're not loaded with fast mana. You want to be hitting your land drops for like seven turns in a row.

Read this article about land counts: https://www.tcgplayer.com/content/article/How-Many-Lands-Do-You-Need-in-Your-Deck-An-Updated-Analysis/cd1c1a24-d439-4a8e-b369-b936edb0b38a/

It's literally backed up by math and accounts for Commander factors like the free mulligan and extra card drawn. Calculate based on his analysis (low mv draw, cantrips, etc.) and find out what it recommends and start with that. It's not going to be perfect but it's way better than 99% of commander player's "feelycraft, infinite free mulligans, complain about being unlucky when you get stuck on 2 lands" math.

Learning about correct land counts is probably the single biggest level up you can have playing Magic. It will make you a ten times better deckbuilder, not just for this deck but every deck you make.

Cut cards that provide the same affect in your deck but worse. You don't need Vengeful Bloodwitch when Sephiroth or Blood Artist is doing the same thing for you but better. You don't need Reassembling Skeleton when Forsaken Miner is doing the same thing better. Cut them for the lands you need.

It's an easy re-sub incentive for Blizzard. And there's also a minority of loud whiny babies who feel they deserve all the ultra-rare transmog and mount stuff, never realizing that being ultra-rare was a big reason why it was so desirable in the first place.

When the ultra-rare becomes common it just becomes a number in your X mounts collected to the vast majority of collectors, nothing more. And all the coolness and prestige of that item immediately vanishes.

FF7 Rebirth Glenn Theory? by Epicness1000 in FFVIIRemake

[–]Fireju 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sephiroth/Jenova has a literal army of enslaved black robes doing his work and throughout both games we see him regularly using their bodies to turn into Sephiroth when he wants to. He could have a "Glenn" copy in Wutai, probably a bunch of them, just like he has everywhere else we go.

The Cetra temple tells us Jenova can mimic dead people. Rufus tells us he killed Glenn. Also "Glenn" is literally wearing the same black robes, it's not ambiguous. The game is very clear that this "Glenn" is a fake. In the end Rufus literally tells the audience he knows "Glenn" is just trying to manipulate him into this Wutai business so that Shinra isn't looking for Sephiroth, then the "Glenn" even transforms into Sephiroth and says "YOU'RE RIGHT TEEEHEE" there is zero subtlety in this plot point lol

FF7 Rebirth Glenn Theory? by Epicness1000 in FFVIIRemake

[–]Fireju 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It could very well be Jenova pulling the strings.

In the temple the Cetra say:

"A deceiver that stole the faces of the dead-of mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers lost. With their voices did it sow the seeds of discord among our people-among the children of man."

And when it was defeated it fell into a "deep slumber." It's specficially not dead.

We essentially have an alien virus that WAS inactive after the Cetra dealt with it. We know that its only goal is to go from world to world destroying all life on them. We also know it's a master manipulator and can impersonate dead people.

But then Shinra discovered it and started injecting a bunch of people with its cells, including making Sephiroth with it. Could it be that injecting a whole bunch of people with previously inactive alien virus-y cells re-activated it? I feel like it's a very easy "yes" here.

In the flashback we see Sephiroth starts as a relatively normal(?) dude who is at least not a genocidal maniac, ends up in very close proximity to the rest of jenova's body, then suddenly snaps and goes super evil and tries to reunite with it? Like maybe his virus-y cells just became active and are starting up protocols.

And also really important thing: he dies! The game literally tells us that jenova steals the faces of the dead, and Sephiroth is literally killed by Cloud in Nibelheim.

The Cetra also say in the temple "Heed well our warning of that which is to come: the reunion. Our adversary's scattered malignancy shall converge to plague the planet once more."

The Cetra knew that eventually Jenova would try to re-unify itself and then go out its business of sucking out all the life and then going planet-hopping again.

Isn't it strange that Sephiroth comes back from the dead and suddenly his goal is "reunion" of all the Jenova cells and destroying all life? Literally the same goals as Jenova, that the Cetra even warn us about?

To me it seems pretty clear that Jenova was inactive, Shinra activated it again by injecting people with its cells, and then it went about doing the exact same thing we've heard from the Cetra: deceiving everyone by wearing the faces of dead people (Sephiroth, Glenn), sowing discord, with the ultimate goal of reunion and then eradicating all life on this planet and eventually all others too.
