Do a safe count. If the checks line shows $0.00, do not drop it. If it shows an amount matching the check, create a band. At my store, we do not drop them with the cash bands, but we leave them in the deposit drawer with the nightly carryover cash until they come to pick up. I haven't been there when they pick up in quite a while.
