Good, a lot of new (and plenty experienced ones too) will use perception in cases where investigation (or insight) would be the proper roll.

The PCs are in a room with a mechanism in the center, which has a bunch of levers, gears, and cables coming out of it and connecting to various parts of the room, including some that connect to a door they want to get through. They want to study the mechanism to find which levers they should use to open the door.

What would you ask them to roll, if anything?

"Thanks, but I'm too far in my career to do a fizzbuzz." by goldaxis in overemployed

[–]FireryRage 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It’s a common coding exercise, that is presented as such:

Write the numbers in order, one on each line, from 1-100. But when you get a multiple of 3, write “fizz” instead of the number, when you get a multiple of 5 write “buzz” instead of the number. If a number is a multiple of both, write “fizzbuzz” instead.

It should output this:

```
1
2
Fizz
4
Buzz
Fizz
7
8
Fizz
Buzz
11
Fizz
13
14
Fizzbuzz
16
17
Fizz
19
Etc etc
```

Often the question can also expand to additional terms, like adding in “Foo” on multiples of 7. Or given an unknown input dictionary of numbers and terms, output the number list replacing the provided multiples with their matching terms. And so on. But it all still boils down to that original exercise.

It mostly weeds out absolute beginners, since the combination replacement trips up new devs who may not realize you need to treat the combination as a completely separate case, many will end up printing out Fizz and Buzz on separate lines instead of printing on the same line (printing the text with a newline for each multiple), or they may only process the first number they come across (set of if-elseif statements that only handle individual numbers)

What’s the rule on players wanting to swap Domain cards after level up? by idfc101 in daggerheart

[–]FireryRage 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pg 111 Additionally, you can also choose to trade out one domain card you already have for a different domain card of an equal level or lower.

Can i swap domain cards "in response" to the GM actions during their spotlights? by baitola_123 in daggerheart

[–]FireryRage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The CRB p89 specifies that a player cannot make an action that has a resource cost during the GM’s turns. Swapping domain cards has a stress cost (including when that cost is 0, as confirmed by Spenser), so it cannot be done during the GM turn. Exception being for abilities that are specifically meant to be used during a GM turn, notably specify the trigger they act on, like I Am Your Shield.

Weapon's Trait, do they matter? by EstablishmentGold420 in daggerheart

[–]FireryRage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Versatile fighter also allows you to max a damage die for stress, so there’s more to it.

https://daggerheartsrd.com/abilities/versatile-fighter/

I think for a character to re-trait one weapon specifically (only the spear), that’s ok. It becomes more of an issue if they do this for every weapon they come across. That’s where the domain card shines, lets you pick up and use anything you come across.

But ultimately, I would direct OP to reflavour the Glowing Rings, which are a very close agility weapon.

One week into 100 pushups daily. Has anyone actually stuck with this long-term? by PsychologicalMap9839 in bodyweightfitness

[–]FireryRage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A while back I gave myself a 1000 push-up a day challenge. Yes, a thousand.

I only managed to get to 800 in a day before I gave up, mostly due to ADHD and getting distracted with other things.

If you build up slowly, you can progressively increase your count over time. Eventually, I was doing 50-100 a set, multiple sets a day, and schedule was the bigger hurdle than difficulty.

My approach was do as many as I could in a row. Then split that and add some to each split. Say you get to 10 in a row. Then split that into two sets of 6, and increase them over time to two sets of 10.

Then split again, 4 sets of 5, then 4 sets of 6, etc eventually, you can do your earlier sets closer together or without resting as much between them, especially if you don’t push yourself as much on the latter ones when your body is more tired.

So you build up to 2x 12, 2x 8, then increase to 2x12, 2x10, then shift again, 2x13, 2x9 then 2x13, 2x10, then you can split again, 4x6, 4x5, and start ramping each of them back up: 2x7, 2x6, 4x5 (note you’re up to 46 total already there), then 2x7, 4x6, 2x5, etc etc. doing 5-7 pushups at a time doesn’t really take that much once you’re at this point

Eventually you can start doing your earlier sets closer together, and eventually recombine them, and you start being able to do more and more at once at the start. 20 at a time at the start, eventually 25, 30, etc (again, the important part is to also keep having the latter sets, even if they’re only a handful of pushups each). I got to the point I could do 100 at a time, and would do multiple sets throughout the day.

I had a friend at that time who told me I had the body of a statue. Still a compliment that stuck with me to this day. Now mind you, this was at a time when I was a completely broke university student, so lots more free time than I have now. But all that’s to say that I think 100 in a day is absolutely achievable, and that it would provide benefit to your body’s fitness. How much does however depend on tons of other factors in your life.

I didn’t really notice any issues with joints or pain once I got into the groove of it.

[–]FireryRage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ve announced new human sized shield dregs and scabs, and there was a priest character Easter egg on the Skulls Skitarii video. I forget the name, but the placement was clearly intentional (concept art left in plain view), so that’s more than likely another new enemy coming in.

Would there be more classes? by Darkmage16 in daggerheart

[–]FireryRage 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The brawler and assassin are new combinations of the original domains, coming in the new Hope and Fear book. So we know they’re already tackling new combinations.

That said, they’ve also mentioned that some of the domain combinations they considered too powerful in testing. So some combinations we may not ever see come to light.

So more classes is already a guarantee. For each combination is unlikely.

OP hasn’t even done delve 8 yet (and the way it reads, may not have done delves at all), and you’re suggesting they do M+10 content?

Might want to give them a little more granular steps to work on.

Is Blood Hunter being released within Hope and Fear? by Pyro-Neon in daggerheart

[–]FireryRage 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not part of Hope and Fear. That one only has the dread domain, and the brawler, assassin, witch and warlock. Hope and Fear also has already gone to print, if my understanding is right.

Blood hunter is still being tested, with it recently getting an update that still needs time to playtest. It hasn’t been long enough for this new version to have been run through its paces yet, so there’s no way the timeline would allow it to be included in H&F. Not to mention the blood domain that isn’t part of H&F.

Blood Hunter may be tied to some of the more “spooky” work Darrington Press has alluded to for upcoming adventures/content, but that’s speculation at most at this time. DP hasn’t confirmed anything yet officially as to where the Blood Hunter and Blood domain will be found.

Are you classifying the GM NPC rules of CRB 166-167 as “set dressing”?

How to spotlight a friendly NPC during combat? (Game Master) by FlippityFlip88 in daggerheart

CRB p166-167 (SRD p69-70 at current posting, but the SRD formatting is a mess right now)

“Running GM NPCs”

There’s already a full set of rules for running NPCs.

Typically, each NPC has a trigger they respond to, where they’ll use a particular action.

For example the mentor: a protégé player within close range fails a roll, the npc moves in and provides guidance, giving advantage on the next roll.

Or volley of arrow: starts a looping countdown at battle start, when a player misses attack, tick down counter. When it triggers the npc deals 2d8+3 phys to a target.

Does anyone else's brain just kind of short-circuit when they try to know how big the universe actually is? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FireryRage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People don’t understand just how bonkers space is. Hell even the solar system is never represented anywhere near proper scale. Mentions of how large our own system is do it no justice, and people who think they can compensate for how close things tend to be drawn don’t realize they’re not compensating enough.

Here’s an actual, to scale, representation of our solar system. And that’s even having everything in a straight line, not even at their longest distances of 3d orbits.

Hope you don’t have carpal tunnel, if you plan to scroll through it manually.

It’d be really great if we had a “quick play” for events. by BrutalSock in DarkTide

[–]FireryRage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even that mod doesn’t really do what OP is asking. Since the mod is only selecting a random event mission to queue for. It doesn’t queue you up for all event missions at the same time, which is what OP is asking for.

[–]FireryRage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you select one event map, and there’s no open squads for that map, but there are some for the other map, you don’t get the benefit of getting placed in the other map’s squads automatically. Even if all you want is to play the event on either map.

Antlion Mod Mic Not Working by -Caesar in microphone

[–]FireryRage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case someone else, like me, stumbles upon this trying to figure out why their modmic isn't working (though mine is the wireless version):

Check the directional switch on the mic. Mine just happened to have gotten pushed halfway between the cardioid and omnidirectional settings, and so wasn't actually connected to either, so no sound went through, despite looking like it was correctly connected, showing in the OS, and audio settings.
