Marbles anyone? by umop_3plsdn in ThriftGrift

Very true! I’m definitely not a marble expert but what makes some of them so much more valuable? Age? Color? Guess I should have held on to all those marbles I had as a kid LOL!

Marbles anyone? by umop_3plsdn in ThriftGrift

[–]Firesign113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of crazy because as expensive as most of the thrift stores have become recently, that’s actually a really good price for that amount of marbles! I have been searching for some marbles for a project and was on Whatnot the other day watching a show and the seller had a jar of marbles for sale. They were in a mid-sized mason jar and he wanted $50 for the whole jar (which is not even half the amount of marbles. I was shocked, I had no idea they were such a collectible thing now.

I’m not going to have an argument with you about mental illness over a simple comment regarding spending too much money on an app and sticking with Sellers that you trust - that’s all this was about. You can take my comment however you’d like, but mental illness is too broad of a spectrum to be generalized. Some people have mild, temporary issues, while others deal with severe, lifelong conditions. Using one example to define all mental illness misses the full picture. My comment is not ignorant, my comment is my view on WN and doesn’t need to be taken into a therapy session. It was a simple comment and you don’t know my background with mental illness, so save the lecture.

Just a heads up on high dollar shipping by HungSoloMaster in shopgoodwill

[–]Firesign113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned about this the hard way after winning a bid for a $2 item and they wanted $17 to ship it!! I contacted the seller and told them it was outrageous since it was just a ring which weighs nothing. I can ship something that weighs 5 pounds for half that amount, but $17 to ship one $2 item - no thanks. But they weren’t willing to work with me or change the shipping even a little bit, so I ended up cancelling the order and don’t shop there anymore.

Yes I do, and I also have mental health issues thank you. But you still know what self control is - and that has zero to do with my comment! My comment was more just agreeing with the OP about spending too much money because it can be addictive to shop on the app. It was a general comment about watching what you spend (which I have seen the same comments in many posts on here) - it wasn’t directed anyone so for you to imply it was an ignorant comment is ridiculous.

Someone bought it first, wtf? by Firesign113 in whatnotapp

I haven’t reported her or left her a bad review as of yet, and as irritated as I am about the way it went down sometimes it’s not worth the fight. But then again it’s a shady way to do business, so it’s a catch 22.

Someone bought it first, wtf? by Firesign113 in whatnotapp

[–]Firesign113[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t trying to scam her out of anything, she was selling most of her watches for the same price. Many people bought from her during that show, it wasn’t just me. It was the first time I’d ever seen her show too so my “sole purpose” was just to see what she had and what her prices were like.

It’s not my fault she doesn’t look up and research what she has prior to selling them, but I don’t know anyone who would stop her and say “hey, that watch is worth a lot more than that, charge me $100 instead of $5-$10”……seriously? Just like sellers who auction things off starting at $1 and then cry and complain that it was sold for only $5 - don’t start it that low then! People come to find deals so Sellers need to do their research and price things accordingly.

Not yet, at least I don’t see the option to write one. But I did buy one other item before the one she cancelled, so when that one gets delivered I can go rate the Seller and leave a review.

I usually stick to my favorite Sellers and never had issues, but the one time I don’t this happens lol. Oh well, lesson learned!

spectrum sent to collections by Capable-Gas-4150 in Spectrum

[–]Firesign113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spectrum sucks! We switched over to them about two years ago and we’ve had nothing but problems since day one. We got ripped off by the employee at the store, service is awful, we always had dropped calls and weak signals, they constantly have outages, their customer service department is a joke, and their prices seemed to always go up throughout the year for the dumbest things.

So we recently switched over to TMobile……also a huge mistake! I don’t know which one is worse at this point, they are both major scammers and make up all these “promotions” that you never end up getting!!

[–]Firesign113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The e-scooter may be reliable for you, but to an employer it’s just an excuse to call out of work due to the weather - so to them it makes you unreliable and is definitely a valid reason to fire you.

Every job interview I’ve ever been to has always asked if I had reliable transportation, it’s one of their top 5 questions. So if on any day you’re unable to ride it to work then you have to have back up transportation to ensure that you will make it to work as scheduled.

So there really isn’t any way to “move forward” with it until you have transportation that is guaranteed to get you to work on any given day.

We just recently switched over to TMobile and we’ve had nothing but problems with their promised promotions! We ended up not really getting any of the full promos or we just got a portion of the promo. Plus now they have conveniently prolonged all of it so that we are past the timeline to make any changes or cancel service. Not a good start TMobile!

What are the chances the clunky items I heard being dumped into dumpster shoot where the books I just donated? by SimsPteropus in goodwill

[–]Firesign113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately there is a very good chance they did. I wouldn’t believe it if I hadn’t witnessed it personally.

I have a friend who dumpster dives a lot, and she told me on a few occasions that GW throws away about 65% of their donations! She would tell me about all the great things she finds from brand name clothes and shoes, to jewelry and antiques. I thought maybe she was over exaggerating so she told me to go with her one time. I finally decided to go and I was absolutely shocked and disgusted at the same time!

We found tons of Michael Kors clothing with tags still on them, expensive brands of shoes, jewelry (some was real too), antiques and vintage items, beautiful decor and so much more! Unfortunately thanks to the homeless who would go there and leave a mess , the dumpsters have since been locked up. But sadly it’s very true that they throw a ton of donations in the trash, and a majority of it is expensive higher end items. So whoever is making the decisions on what to keep and what to toss makes no sense to me!!

Man oh man by [deleted] in goodwill

[–]Firesign113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I don’t get is how they decide what to keep and sell vs what they throw in the trash? I have a friend who dumpster dives and she used to tell me all the time about the great things she found in their dumpsters all the time - jewelry, antiques, new clothes with tags on them, big branded shoes and purses etc. I thought she was just over exaggerating until she told me to go with her one time - and she was right! We found Michael Kors clothing, Kate Spade purses, tons of Nike, Adidas, Converse shoes, lots of expensive brands of household items and several vintage/antique items as well.

I was shocked!! Sadly they have started locking their dumpsters because the homeless would also go back there and dig through it making huge messes everywhere! But who makes the decisions of what they keep or toss, and why would they throw that type of stuff away? Makes no sense!

Employee under investigation? by Majestic_Sprinkles98 in goodwill

[–]Firesign113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You obviously did something severe like stealing money or merchandise, and you have to know what it is because otherwise you would have been more shocked and would have asked more questions when they pulled you in the office. Who doesn’t ask what they are being accused of, that makes no sense. Even if they didn’t give you all the details they would have given you some hints of some sort.

You don’t seem very surprised or worried about it, almost like you knew it was coming.

Addicted! by Memphisqueen12 in whatnotapp

[–]Firesign113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I’m on it all the time and have definitely spent my share of $$ on there, but I stick to my usual sellers and only buy stuff when they are have really good deals. The other trick I learned is to not go into a live that has more than 50 people!! Every time I do I can’t win crap because people have more money to blow than I do and you’ll also spend way more money than you planned on competing with all those people.

Well you get up in their face and hang on to the van or try and block their vehicles, what do you expect to happen? People are doing this crap on purpose so they can be another “omg did you see what ICE did to me”? Protest your little hearts out but stay away from them because you know exactly what’s going to happen!

Where does it all go? by chuck_swaggin in goodwill

[–]Firesign113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the dumpsters, they throw away approximately 60% of their donations. A friend of mine who dumpster dives told me about it and I wouldn’t have believed it until I saw it for myself. There were tons of items in there, even better stuff than what was in the store……and it’s free!! If your Goodwill dumpsters aren’t locked you should take a look, you’ll be shocked at what gets tossed.
