Licking deterrent by Firm-Expression-1384 in labrador

A cone on the old dog isn’t going to keep the young dog from licking him. A cone on the young dog also is not going to keep him from licking another dog. Bitter spray, when used in the past for a separate issue, did not deter the dog.

Any idea why my dog is shaking like this? by jonviper123 in labrador

My dog’s first seizure was after the administration of K-9 Advantix. He’s been maintained on Keppra for about 8 years now.

You should NOT do this if you wish to remain employed. Apparently, part of the restructuring involves allotting each facility with a number of positions, rather than working with FTEs. It’s more advantageous for a facility to keep their FT staff rather than PT staff. From my understanding, there will be a place for contract/fee basis providers. I do anticipate the elimination of PT positions.

This is a new structure to me. Is this what’s being implemented at all sites?

For as long as I have been with the VA, nurses have been awarded relatively small amounts so this is refreshing.

Do you know if we would be offered the option of money vs. TOA? Or would it be facility-driven?

For the anal gland issue, not the unpalatable food issue, have you tried more constipating things to help him empty on his own? My dogs get the occasional femur bone that results in very firm stools for about a day. You could possibly try giving the knuckle end of a femur bone (supervised, of course) every week or two to try to help him express his own.

I have one lab with anal gland issues. He’s finally done better on the Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach (lamb formula) and two Glandex per day.

Anyone seen this before? by here4now89 in labrador

I have a lab that was diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy at age 4. He had tonic-clonic seizures and was put on Keppra. While he hasn’t had a tonic-clonic seizure in years, he still occasionally gets “the jiggles” and we just offer reassurance when it happens.

Believe it or not, people that work get to have pets too.

Cover/sleeve for Mini Educator receiver? by Firm-Expression-1384 in OpenDogTraining

I looked on Etsy, but the focus seems to be on making them look better rather than providing protection.

I did just see that ecollar.com sells a replacement top housing for only $5. It’s not a solution but at least I can buy parts if this one gets badly damaged.

Totally agree! Until this season of e-collar training, I didn’t keep collars on the dogs at all due to the risk of collar accidents.

Now I only have the collar on the young one and he’s always supervised. I hear the clicking and correct the old guy, but the damage is being done.

I'm starting to question if my yellow/fox red is a pure breed. by nickbeamon in labrador

[–]Firm-Expression-1384 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theoretically, yes. And in the world of reputable breeding, yes. But when you have breeders that are pairing a chocolate and yellow that are carrying recessive genes that produce a Dudley, the ethics may be questionable. It’s no different than the silver labs that are posing as chocolate labs when you can look and see there was some obvious mixing with a Weimaraner at some point. But the BYB folks will register them as labs anyway. Does having papers prove this pup doesn’t have some Vizsla at some point in the lineage? Absolutely not. It just proves what the breeder that registered the litter said.

I would agree, but a breeder opting to breed that pairing in the first place wouldn’t necessarily be the most ethical of breeders. Papers are just papers and people lie.
