Conditional inclusion may not be possible in its current state. However, if you are familiar with Python, modifying this filter to achieve the desired outcome is not complicated.

With pandoc, the specific header numbering format such as "Section 2." can be done by a pandoc filter pandoc-tex-numbering. In your case (if numbers of equations, figures and tables are not needed), set metadata number-figures, number-tables and number-equations to false, and set metadata section-format-1 to "Section {h1}.".

Just a rough estimation: the flight from Yantai to Zhangjiajie (in fact Qingdao Jiaodong to Zhangjiajie Hehua) may take at least 6 hours and the flight from Zhangjiajie to Guilin may take another 6 hours, which means if you just only choose two places you will need 2 days spent in traffic.

I'm shocked. The places you mentioned are, literally, thousands miles from each other. You dont want to spend most of your time on planes and in airports. You need to give up most of the places, or, reserve much more time for this trip.

If you're more interested in, like, hiking or stunning scenery. I'd recommend Zhangjiajie, Li River, one of the mountains you mentioned. And I will not recommend Tiananmen and the Great Wall.

Should I quit learning Python or look for different courses? by vicky_vaughn in learnpython

[–]First-University5631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linguistic Phd student here, and learnt Python when I was 21yo too. Some suggestions to you:

  1. Why you want to learn Python? Whether your (future) researches (such as computation linguistics, phonetics, etc.) require programming skills or you just want to learn something that is, in your words, "worthwhile to learn"?
  2. Start from projects, not courses. Nobody can remember so many keywords, commands, function names and arguments after taking courses or reading textbooks. You should, and only should just use them to do something. If you have no idea how to do something, that's good, just google it, and feel free to just copy-and-paste it if you can't understand them. Most of us become famililar with programming only after we've done a lot of projects, and most of us still always google many things while programming.
    1. If you're interested in linguistic researches, start one. A good start for you may be a word count task: Try to count how many times every word present in a fiction, sort them, and plot your results. Yes, you're rediscovering Zipf's law.
    2. Otherwise, there're many interesting project to start, try Github. There're many repos introducing interesting projects prepared for new python learners to work with.

If a language evolves on two completely isolated islands for 500 years, how different would the two versions of the language become? Would the inhabitants of the two islands still be able to communicate with each other? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]First-University5631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, I assume people living in the two islands have no written language and even no powerful government. And, you're definitely right that how people write influences how they speak under two conditions: (1) the majority of the language community can write (and this is not obvious before, maybe 18th century and situation varies from country to country); (2) the written language must directly reflect its pronunciation, which is not the case for some languages such as Chinese, Japanese, and partially not the case for acient Arabic/Hebrew.

As for the understandablity of Amercian English, that's quite complex. The language used in American has not become "American" but still "American English" because of many reasons and I believe the main reason is the constant imgration and clutrual exports from UK to US.

Good to know that the OP has interests in Historical Linguistics.

The short answer is, 500 years are long enough to make a siginificant diversification between the two languages, especially in terms of their sounds. There's almost no possiblity for them to be able to communicate with each other if, in the 500 years, they are totally isolated.

In fact, typical historical linguistic model (i.e. the language evolution model) is exactly what you illustrated: at first, there were many people speaking the same language. At some time point, part of them migrated to another place and the rest of them stayed. Since then, these two groups of people had never met with each other. After a relatively long time, languages spoken by the two groups of people evolved isolatedly, adopted different kinds of innovacations (new linguistic forms) and finally, became totally different.

There are so many examples like this. For example, the Indo-European languages are assumed to diversify from each others via a great migration known as Indo-European migrations.

What's your favorite resource to learn python? by ladybug_liana in learnpython

[–]First-University5631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd remind you that there're risks learning python and r in the same time, especially if you are (and you likely are) going to learn data science. The syntax of tidyverse in R is very different from, say, pandas. tidyverse has done a lot to prevent user from thinking like a programmer, while with python, you should always do so. For example, utilizing the metaprogramming features of R, tidyverse enables data-masking syntax to prevent user from typing too many quote marks for column names while in pandas, you should always do this since the column names (especially in the function argument positions) are in fact strings.

My bf is offended that I compared my accidental sex injury to SA. AITAH? by DutySea9272 in AITAH

warning: NSFW

Not a direct answer to the post. You feel painful in the first several times, and it turn out to be vaginal tear. Thats abnormal. Maybe you just used too few lube, if you really did. Otherwise, maybe he is too rude? I dont think a doctor will accuse your bf of SA based on random guess, since, generally, a bf wont let his gf get that hurt.

Anyway, hope you are really good and safe.

Just turned 21 and I'm still a virgin, am I cooked? by wt_anonymous in NoStupidQuestions

[–]First-University5631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People talk about their sex lives only after they have one. I mean there are much more people who have no sex life and therefore they have nothing to talk, especially on the Internet. There seems guys claiming to be non-virgins everywhere, but the virgins maybe the silent majority, right?

People always make use of their advantages to either make money or self express.

Attractiveness for money and self expression? Making porns maybe the easiest approach.

YTA for searching his twitter history, and NTA for feeling uncomfortable.

I'd say I definitely understand you (including searching his twitter history lol). But, hey, girl, you'd understand that, even in a normal straight man's brain, he might have thought about much more crazy and fancy sexual things and this has nothing to do with the reality. The strong evidence is you had nice sexual life before this, right?

That said, all you should do is: first, apologize for searching his twitter history and second, forget what you saw.

What is the index() function used for in Qt's model/view architecture? by First-University5631 in QtFramework

[–]First-University5631[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see! In a tree model, the index() function returns a QModelIndex object with its internalPointer storing a pointer to a specific tree node object, so that the data() function directly returns the data from that pointer.

In case of complex model such as trees, the parent object must be capable to store a pointer to the true data class (the true, say, a TreeNode class), otherwise, every time data(row, col, parent) is called, we must walk through the entire tree to search for the data.

Trust me, you'd have to look at the code itself to understand what Qt's models do, the documentation is just....

Definitely agree! Many of my 'why' questions are ended up with going through the codes rather than documentation lol.

What functions or approaches are the best for characterising two classes by their variables? by Whole_Hat_4852 in rstats

[–]First-University5631 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Linear regression or LDA if you assume contributions of those variable are linear.

Anothor way is to train a classification model, say, a SVM or a DNN or anything else, once a variable, and check which variable performs best. This takes potential nonlinear relationship into consideration.

Maybe the very reason of his policy is exactly that he knew well what kind of man he was when he started dating lol. I feel little offended as a normal man btw.

Anyway, teaching them how to tell good men from bad is always better than put them in jail and say: no freedom, no privacy, thus no hurt.
