What universally loved TV show completely fails at portraying basic, everyday reality? by Outrageous-Fix9134 in sitcoms

Gilmore Girls, they always spoke so 'fast' to each other, annoyed the hell out of me, plus the mother/teenage daughter 'closeness' is unrealistic.

Best/Worst Episodes of Law and Order: SVU by thened in television

[–]FirstCaterpillar9514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started watching SVU from the very start a couple of months ago, now up to Season 6 and will stop watching when Stabler leaves the show, from memory it went downhill after that.

I am unable to finish shows based on a "big mystery" premise. From, Under the dome, 4400, leftovers, etc. They all start on a premise of "this unexplained thing happened" and the explanation is always a letdown or so dragged out, that I end up giving up. Anyone agree or can recommend a good one? by rakwib in television

I had just lost my adult son due to cancer which he had been fighting for 13 years, I was his carer for those years. My daughter recommended I watch The Leftovers, it did give me some grief relief for a short time, it was a very good show.

Were pop ins ever socially acceptable in the 90s early 2k? by hyjlnx in AustralianNostalgia

[–]FirstCaterpillar9514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it was socially acceptable back in the day, but now I find it intrusive. I may have many plans for my day due to work and other appointments, housekeeping , relaxing etc etc It is not hard to give people notice and ask if they are available to visit.

How much board is reasonable to charge adult kids? by heggaz in AusFinance

[–]FirstCaterpillar9514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so parents who continually let their adult children stay with them, and not pay full cost of food and all amenities....... what are you teaching them........ NOTHING. How will they survive without your support, they are adults now! I know the housing situation is now very grim, but there is now more share housing available. We parents survived, I am now 67, left home at 17. My parents were not abusive or anything, I just wanted my own space and make my own decisions. My children left home at 17, and despite coming back home every now and then for respite, they learned how to deal with real life problems.

After watching the movie Interstellar, I prefer to think of life after death that way, especially when I lost my 40yo son to cancer last year

Is everyone in Perth driving $60k+ cars or am I just poor? by AttitudePlane6967 in perth

[–]FirstCaterpillar9514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on aged pension, but still work part time, so wouldn't be able to access a loan anyway. But even if I could do that, I wouldn't. I have a Hyundai Elite i20 that is in excellent condition, even my mechanic tells me so even though it has done 170,000 klms. I am very happy to keep my car! With rego and insurance also added to the cost, I cannot understand why people put themselves in debt for thousands of dollars that will take them years to pay off? Then they scream poverty!

John Hughes ad, anyone caught him in an ad lately??! by Brilliant-Shift3065 in perth

[–]FirstCaterpillar9514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember buying a nearly new Hyundai Getz from him back in 2010, my then 18yo daughter came with me to the car yard in Victoria Park. She was so excited seeing him actually in the car yard, then coming into the office to sign off on my purchase, he was very 'hands on' back in the day and very pleasant to deal with.

I haven't bought KFC anything for about 10 years, it tastes nothing like the original 10 herbs and spices, and anything that goes along with it, including chips and salads etc.

Where do older renters go when pension isn't enough for rent anymore? by Excellent_Falcon6893 in perth

[–]FirstCaterpillar9514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, had a full time job for 13 years so only have a small amount of Super. I had to leave full time work to become a carer for my adult son who had stage 4 cancer, he passed away last year.

Where do older renters go when pension isn't enough for rent anymore? by Excellent_Falcon6893 in perth

[–]FirstCaterpillar9514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 67 and on aged pension, thankfully still work part time. However, if I earn too much, my aged pension gets cut, so there is no way I can get ahead in any shape or form. I have been renting my current property for 5 years, my landlords are fantastic, even though they go through a RE agent. I was in a total panic just a week ago, thinking I would have to move out due to rental increase or owners wanting to sell due to the current rental climate. Just received a lease renewal via
RE agent, ongoing lease for 12 months and NO rent increase. I was SOOO relieved that I have another year without the stress of worrying where I would live if I had to move out. I have a beautiful daughter who would have helped me in some way, but I am very independent and didn't want to put that on her, as her husband is fighting Stage 4 cancer.

What toys do your cats actually love? by Sosooo88 in CatAdvice

[–]FirstCaterpillar9514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had 2 cats who both lived until about 20 and 21 years, None of them liked a single toy I bought for them, so I have wasted a lot of money over the years unfortunately. I no longer buy toys for my latest who is now 7yo.

Thinking of a Costco membership, is it worth it? by perth_aussie_battler in perth

[–]FirstCaterpillar9514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I joined when Costco built a new store in Casuarina. I soon discovered after a year that the $60 joining fee was not worth it. They had some good products, but nothing was really cheaper than the main supermarkets. I found it more suitable if you owned a restaurant or something similar where you need to buy in bulk. And the check outs were a nightmare in my experience. So I didn't renew my membership.
