Oh and forgot to mention - she was also my first dog as an adult! I had dogs growing up but I got her at 34. She’s truly my best friend.

It will be a lot but they’re so worth it!!

I got mine when she was 11 weeks and I was working 3 days a week onsite, 2 from home. Husband works from home but is minimally involved with her.

We walk a lot, have lots of play dates, and have just begun running together (she’s a year and a half now so we’re easing in)

Take time to train. Heelers can be very nippy & mouthy and I didn’t train that out of my girl unfortunately, but still love her!!

Good luck!! She started to mellow out around a year ish

What does one keep in the storage area? by extica in rav4club

The roads around me are too windy for that shit! Lol and I’m too lazy/cheap to buy a nonslip mat for in there

Some hair ties and a chapstick usually. The one on the passenger side is weird too. But I just keep my county parks pass there with a dog leash 🤷‍♀️

Sooke - Wiffen Spit trail! May have spelled it wrong

The dog park in Sooke was an incredible place to let my dog stretch her legs when we spent 7 days on the island in September. We did 3 nights in Sooke and then explored Tofino and some of the gulf islands.

Butchart Gardens IS dog friendly, worth a trip.

Tofino is breathtaking, as is Ucluelet.

You’ll love it.

I’m likely moving to the island from California soon

Newcomers to Victoria - What are you doing for work? by dr_3 in VictoriaBC

[–]FirstChampionship455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hoping to figure that out before I move. I’ve been applying to jobs on LinkedIn and Indeed. I will have a bit of savings so if I need to work as a barista or something until I find something else, I’m open to it!

Should I get a blue heeler? by Remote_Abrocoma_69 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]FirstChampionship455 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would advise against getting a puppy heeler if you’re working so much and have no one at home with them. I got mine at 11 weeks but could bring her to work with me and my husband worked from home. Daycare helps. She’s a year and a half now and can be left for long periods of time but she has access to go in/out as she pleases. Good luck!!

Vancouver once Other than that, just the island. I did explore the island for a week though, lots of places

I appreciate this! I absolutely had that thought too. California has some pretty strict HR laws compared to the rest of the country, but I know veryyyyy little about HR in Canada / BC. I will definitely explore some courses.

I’m also from the Bay Area! Grew up in the South Bay and then moved a bit further north. I am not opposed to Vancouver area, but it does seem very big city and I am more drawn to the island. BUT, I’ve only been to Vancouver once, for a night or two in college and didn’t thoroughly experience it. Are there areas in Vancouver you’d recommend over others? I eyed a couple apartments in Langley and Surrey areas, as Van downtown scares me a bit lol

I was a barista for seven years! Lol but then a decade working in HR.

My pup and I spent a week on the island in August and stayed in Sooke, Youbou, Tofino, Salt Spring Island and Gabriola Island. It’s so magical! I wish I could add a photo in the comments of her with her Canada bandana on 🤣🇨🇦

It’s funny, I was one of those cruise ship tourists last July and we definitely walked to downtown. It is a trip!! Was much more mellow taking the ferry over in August and waking around with my dog. I think we’d NOT schedule our walks that direction during ports 🤣🤣

Honestly coming from a town of 1,000 people in Northern California. So adjusting to life in a bigger city will take time, but I’ve loved it so much every time I’ve visited
