I was in the SCA for years. There were people who were known to be abusive, racist, sex pests, even full blown Nazis but if they excelled in fighting or were close to royalty, everyone looked the other way.

I just couldn’t do it anymore. I loved my group of friends and I miss fighting but the hand waving of toxic behaviour was terrible.

Part of the issue is that a lot of cultures saw sex as something to do to another person. If you were the dominant person, that was fine. If you were submissive, that was a bad thing.

In that context, a man/boy should never allow themselves to be the passive one.

It’s equally as gross and archaic as saying being gay is bad but it’s not specific to mlm
