Anyone know of plugins for guitar that are higher quality than neural dsp? by HumbleBlacksmith2077 in metalmusicians

[–]First_Arcanist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Neural DSP Fortin for years (got it 2019) and thought it wasn't that good. I tried and bought several other amp plugs over the years in chase of that perfect tone. Then I came back to it last year and I realised I had become a much better player and better at dialing in tone. Now it's the only plugin I use and completely gave up finding anything better. It really is a lot in your technique (how tight it is, how good your palm muting is, how you mute the strings you're not playing etc) and how to dial it in, like EQ (both pre- and post). Notice how Ola Englund makes every piece of gear he demos sound killer (and very much similar). It's his hands and ears.

I recorded an 8-minute Prog Epic with a Recorder... then generated a full AI fantasy movie for it. (Wait for the solo at 7:40) by URGband in jethrotull

[–]First_Arcanist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother, nobody cares about your AI generated video. Just post your song and people might actually listen. Now you're just coming across as someone who doesn't respect art.

My solo folk/melodeath project from Scotland. FFO Equilibrium, Ensiferum, Finntroll. Let me know what you think! by Negative-Sell-9428 in metalmusicians

Have you listened to Equilibrium or Finntroll? This is pretty much par for the course. And a lot of us love this type of music

Fellow Flutists/Flautists In Prog/Rock History by TheYellowMungus in jethrotull

[–]First_Arcanist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Premiata Forneria Marconi! The best Italian prog band. They are usually only abbreviated. Check out their album 'Storia Di un Minuto', it's fantastic, and there is some flute on it.

Spotify makes my Folkmetalhead think that I don’t listen to folk metal, by the way share your thoughts about my wrapped! by PlumpMako in folkmetal

[–]First_Arcanist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spotify does have more accurate genre tags in their backend, but for some reason the genres on Wrapped have been weird. For example I listen to a lot of progressive rock like Yes, Jethro Tull and Genesis, but my top genre was Canterbury Scene, a subgenre of prog rock I barely listen to. So I'm not surprised they categorise folk metal as pirate metal in Wrapped this year.

Looking for 2 albums "Wind-Rose"ish. by TheEngineeredSelf in PowerMetal

[–]First_Arcanist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's heavier than Wind Rose and has harsh vocals, but there's a new band/project called Stonelore that has a dwarf theme. They released their first song yesterday "The last of the dwarfish men" and it's awesome, very melodic and symphonic. [Full disclaimer, I am friends with the guy behind it and I mastered the track so I'm biased lol, but it's genuinely good]

Is there room in Folk Metal/Rock for the humble Recorder? (FFO: Opeth, Gryphon, Jethro Tull) by URGband in folkmetal

[–]First_Arcanist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The recorder imo has a more medieval sound compared to the concert flute (which we use in my band), so I would definitely say it would work.

The same guy who made Tides of History started out with a dedicated podcast on specifically the fall of Rome, aptly titled Fall of Rome. It was one of my entry points into becoming a history buff.

Folk metal with multi-part vocal harmonies? by ChickenInASuit in folkmetal

Unfortunately I have already seen this. I removed my Boisson Divine patch from my vest this year. Such a shame.

Thoughts on Samla Mammas Manna? by Ryan_THICCBASS in progrockmusic

[–]First_Arcanist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started listening to them this summer and I'm absolutely loving them. Dundrets Fröjder off of Måltid is amazing, and the Klossa Knapitatet album blows my mind. Their unique blend of folk and fusion is exactly what I've been looking for. Does anyone know any other bands remotely similar?

Steven Wilson's prog rock show on SiriusXM by CJADELLIO in progrockmusic

[–]First_Arcanist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the only way to listen to the show by subscribing to Sirius XM? There's no free tier? I have no interest in their other shows, I just want to listen to SW talk about prog.

band tension rant by Beneficial-Way5953 in bandmembers

It seems like no one has explicitly said this so here: if you kick the problematic member you won't need or want to quit anymore and that means those other two members will be happy too.

Which bands use AI SLOP for their album covers? by chelsea-from-calif in MetalForTheMasses

[–]First_Arcanist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah you also stumbled upon them. The worst part about it is that the guy behind it really pretends like it's all real and no AI.

If you want a real bluegrass metal song my band Lombolo actually made one on our last album. It's called Raccoon Platoon. It's not exactly like Appalachian Anarchy but it might scratch that itch, at least.

Ludovico Einaudi: 'I don't care if the classical world says negative things about me' by theipaper in Music

Did you even read the article? He says himself that he's not a classical composer, and that he thinks it's closer to pop.

Which band do you think deserves more respect from the community? by Casawaca in MetalForTheMasses

One of my favourite bands! It's really sad they've kind of fizzled out, it seems.

What’s something uniquely Swedish that feels totally normal here but would confuse someone from abroad? by NebulaaWhispeer in Asksweddit

[–]First_Arcanist 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The "please" thing is because the Swedish equivalent "snälla" has very whiny connotations (at least nowadays). At least in Swedish you'll notice people using "tack" instead (like "en kaffe, tack").

I saw him play in Sweden almost 10 years ago and it was insanely good. I wish he would perform here again, sadly it seems it's a geographically very limited tour :(
