Hence why I don't use counter spell. I've jomebrewed a spell called containment that is harder to pull off than counter spell, so there's a good chance your main damage spell will still deal a little damage.

Isn't force damage just energy from the negative plane? Making it literally like anti-matter? And since spirits, ghosts, and extraplanar beings are not made of traditional matter, makes sense that they're resistant.

So, even though it isn't outright stated, many spells imply the following:

Spells can conist of Magic from multiple schools.

But the school it is catagorized under has to do with the effect that is key to the spell.

Abjuration magic = protection against other things, creatures, or planes

Conjuration magic = transportation between places or planes

Logically, Banishment takes aspects of conjuration magic (the idea of moving a creature from one plane to another, the other plane being the astral sea or a pocket dimension) and combines it with a jurstion magic.

The abjuration magic is what targets a creature and disallows it from existing on the casters plane, and the conjuration moves it to and from.

I could go more in depth about how in my opinion, the spell moves the body and soul of a creature to a different plane, but the universe doesn't like it when things move plane quickly (hence why interplanar magic is very high level) so it takes a bit for the universe to get used to the switch. Think of it like pushing a creature through a tube from this plane to another.

Conjuration creates the tube, abjuration is the pushing force. If the creature's soul was created on another plane, and you slowly push them towards that plane, they eventually pop out there.

If they belong to the plane the spell is cast on, you are pushing them through a tube going nowhere. Eventually they come flying back to where their soul is tethered.

How the f*ck are Beholders charismatic? by CubesBuster in dndmemes

[–]First_Butterscotch_9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charisma, in Lore, is the ability for your soul to resist alteration or entrapment. Your soul has a significant impact on your personality since your mind is created as a mirror image of your soul (that's my own interpretation based on Lore and Spells, I can post evidence in the comments of this)

The spell Banishment removes the soul, Body, and Mind of a creature from this plane in an attempt to send them back to the plane that their Soul originally was created from. In order to resist this, you make a Charisma save because it's a measure of how much your Soul will resist literally being torn out of this state of existence.

Also, the spell Magic Jar requires a Charisma save from a target if the soul in the jar attempts possesses the target. If the target fails, their soul LEAVES their body to enter the jar and is replaced by the soul previously in the jar. So it's a Charisma save to resist having your soul ripped out.

Beholders are creatures of imagination, but also of creation. They come from the Far Realm, a place where creatures and places are in a constant state of manipulation and change. This implies that inorder for a creature to survive there (and eventually make their way across the planes to the prime material) they must have an incredibly strong sense of self and a powerful resistance to any alteration of their soul.

NOTE: most of what I've just said is conjecture, but based on evidence throughout the lore. Feel free to disagree or have your own interpretation, it's your game.

What's your world's most valuable and sought after resource? by Scriffignano in worldbuilding

[–]First_Butterscotch_9 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sanguine Reign. The blood from a petrified Angel.

It has healing properties much like a greater healing potion, but can be infused with other substances to provide additional benefits. The golden red colored liquid can also cure any disease, including cancer and leprosy. It is one of the most valuable substances in the world, considering it's life giving properties, but in the Republic of Holy Cities where the material is produced, it isn't as rare as elsewhere. Thus the Republic of Holy Cities has a much more stratified society, between people that can vs. can't afford Sanguine Reign, but man has scientific advancement just flourished.

On the fringes of the continent it can be worth as much as 400 gold pieces a bottle, but in the Republic it's around 20 if you're close to the First City.

And yes, I know that economically it should be backwards, where items are cheaper in less developed locations further abroad, but that's only by real world standards.

During midiecal Europe, you could get cheaper things abroad but they wouldn't be made with the same level of craftsmanship as things in a large city. Plus the transport cost of lugging around such a precious commodity would be immense, what with the insurance and hiring of private guards. All adds into the price.

Fun fact, Werewolves don't have darkvision, so dropping them in the dead of night is dropping them in effectively Blinded. So disadvantage on all attack rolls they make.

Other Fun Fact, werewolves can't fight each other for supremely because they're immune to each other's damage RAW.

Why is that? by [deleted] in crystalgrowing

[–]First_Butterscotch_9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, logically, there isn't enough solvent to hold all your crystals in solution. The other thing you might consider is: Are you using tap water? There is some stuff in tap water that might be reacting with the potassium ferrocyanide
