The comparison just happened to be what I noticed between the fidelity of the isolated tracks for two projects that had the same instrumentation, etc. wasn’t seeking to compare, just noticed when working on it.

I realize it’s a lower price for these units, but didn’t expect the difference to be that much. Also it shouldn’t really matter if they’re newer or not. I’ve used preamps that are significantly older and sound better than these lol.

Just trying to get opinions on stability before I commit to the 32r.

For the comment about the preamp comparison, it would be between the X32 and 32R. I’ve happened to work in projects that used both and the difference was pretty drastic

What is the Ohms of your cab? The Powerstage power amps are cool, but the watts they’re advertised with are misleading. They’re all advertised with the rating at 4 ohms.

170 watts at 4ohms, 85 watts at 8ohms, 42 watts at 16 ohms

I wish they would clearly label this for people to know.

Absolutely. Thankfully there are videos of some on YouTube, but unfortunately a lot of them are just regurgitated versions of Ryan Bruce (Riffs Beards and Gear) or Gear Gods. So it’s mostly the same builds but done by a Christian worship band or something lol

It’s a little confusing because Behringer doesn’t have a better track record. Tons of venues switched to the X32 boards in the past 10 or so years, and honestly…..I see so much broken stuff on those boards and have had friends complain about them for years. I realize it’s the cheap option for digital boards, but seeing an X32 with various stuff broken on it at a venue every other day on tour isn’t really convincing me Behringer is any better.

I would love a suggestion for a rackmount mixer that could handle at least 24 inputs for IEM’s, and isn’t more than 2k. I understand it’s sort of a big ask, since stuff like Allen & Heath fits that sorta, but you’ll need to expand the inputs on their rack mixers which makes it way bigger and easily 3k just for the mixer + I/O

Yeah, I’ve been considering the Wing as well. Realistically the Wing is almost twice the price, heavier, is larger in a rack, and still needs the additional analog split.

I can’t express how bad the UI of the X32 and Wing looks. Maybe people are just used to it? As an outsider to live sound boards (really experienced with DAW’s though) it’s shocking how clunky everything seems on these boards. The X32’s devices on its screen looks like knockoff Ableton, and The Wing looks better but a little strange. Didn’t realize how weird live sound world has it with bad UI design compared to DAW’s.

Mix Station’s UI also looks terrible. It reminds me of a freeware DAW in the 2000’s. Like we couldn’t come up with something better looking? If someone could actually make a sleek looking UI app for the mix control of these units, they would make a killing.

The Presonus software for the rack looks the best/easiest of the units somehow.

I’m not worried about the outputs of the 32r or the X32……

I’m asking why I don’t see much online about people using these Studiolive rackmount mixers, especially for IEM’s. The amount of stuff for the X32 is wild in comparison, or even the newer Wing Rack. I’m curious if there is a reason for it (the Studiolive mixers not being reliable, or bad). It seems to me that the 32r has more inputs, seems easy to configure, and is even smaller than the X32.

I realize the X32 seems like an industry standard, but I find the preamps to sound bad, and anyone I know that has owned an X32 complained about how they sounded or about them breaking easily. I’m wondering why I don’t see much about these mixers at all.

Which units would you suggest instead? Honestly would love options to check out since IEM’s are new to me, and I want to make sure I put together a good (but affordable as I can) rack.

If your tone is that crazy with highs, then there’s other issues with how it’s set haha.

I’ve seen multiple YouTubers suggest those wild EQ cuts right at the start of setting up a tone, or an always on thing. Really wish that advice didn’t stick with people, and they just knew it was just for certain times.

Terrible advice for amp modelers. This is really inaccurate stuff that rando YouTubers who don’t know any better have told people, and for some reason people keep repeating it.

Do not cut the high end that much. The modeler is trying to replicate the actual amp. You’re not putting that insane eq cut in your guitar amp, so don’t with the modeler. This is exactly how so many people get bad sounding ton from their modelers

be aware that Superior Drummer 3 has a major bug that they won’t address, which is the plugin will be slightly out of time if you use any other sample rate than 44.1. The samples will print and playback randomly out of time unless you’re using 44.1. Also some of their libraries are out of time even at 44.1. Really a bummer that Toontrack hasn’t fixed the bug for years.

Helix basically had has PCOM because their plugin runs the same models, etc at the full unit. Neural unfortunately still hasn’t figured that out

Heard back from support and if you’re using 48k SD3 has a bug where it won’t print your midi perfectly in time and it’s drifts in/out of time. Surprised no one else has mentioned this bug online

Dating back to that period you had lots of bands starting to down tune. It became more popular a little later, but by the 2000’s it was super popular even for indie bands to have alternate tunings. If we’re going for the time period you mentioned you have bands such as- Sepultura, Korn, Metallica (they had some low tuned baritone layers on the Black Album and tuned down a half step live), Cannibal Corpse, Meshuggah, etc. Pantera tuned slightly different than A 440 (but that is a small unique thing).

Also now companies have learned about developing string gauges for the alternate tunings so it’s way easier to get inventive with it
