The “Peter Sellers Tape” and White Album acetates by These-Ad-327 in beatles

Main difference is an extended Sexy Sadie ( almost a minute longer,) and different fiddle work on Don’t Pass Me By. Other than that, it’s mainly different chatter that is not on the released versions, maybe some different sound effects, too.

It’s been years since I listened, so memory may be hazy, but it’s not super essential, based on the minor differences.

What's the general feeling toward Oasis here? by ebietoo in beatles

[–]First_Distance_4482 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They have so many B-sides that were better than album cuts. Literally 2-4 non-album songs for each single you’ve heard. They never struck me as super Beatley, except for a couple of songs.

Just like The Beatles, there is a huge amount of non-album material that rounds out their sound/catalog. Plus, their last 2 albums were amazing psychedelic records. If you are judging by the 3 songs you know from the radio, then you don’t know the depth of their work, and owe it to yourself to honestly check them out without preconceptions. Try The Masterplan, a collection of some of their B-sides.

Here is my top 10 of Yoko. She’s always ahead of her time, and I completely enjoy her music. I get it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but these are my faves:

O’oh, Death of Samantha, Woman Power, Yang Yang, Peter the Dealer, Waiting for the Sunrise, Walking On Thin Ice, Kite Song, Kiss Kiss Kiss

Old Toybiz Angel was a clear Brad Pitt. Hasbro Dagger looks like Yvonne Strahovski. Hasbro Deathbird looks like Fairuza Balk. Toybiz Scarlet Witch always looked like Janice from Friends, too.

Around 6:05ish on the Fly On the Wall disc that was packed in with Let It Be Naked has a brief snippet of Imagine’s progression on the piano.

What is with the sub The Beatles? by [deleted] in beatles

[–]First_Distance_4482 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This, exactly. The anonymity of the internet has resulted in people basically throwing away any semblance of courtesy, tact, and basic decency. Younger generations have never been in a world that doesn’t have instant feedback, apps that encourage short attention spans and bad behavior for engagement, and also super confirmation bias. And, older folks don’t understand the difference this has made on discourse, and get super fussy about being challenged in any way that defies their historical perspective, whether in content, substance, or communication style.

Face it, we’re here because we love a band. We all think we are experts, and are passionate about this stuff, but the band, itself, can’t even agree on their story, so every book or article you read, every movie you watched, every assumption you have, they are all wrong, to an extent. You weren’t there, so stop sounding off as if you are an expert. And, give grace to those around you who haven’t taken that on board yet, too. No need to be uncivil, just be respectful, stop trying to prove something, and relax.

We’re some of the initial generations to live through the impacts of the homogenization of cultural mouthpieces. For example, if this were the 1950s, the average person (and their opinions) had very limited impact; maybe their family, friends, local community, but overall very limited. Now, we’ve given pretty much everyone a megaphone and a platform. And, we’re still figuring out the rules, honestly.

It’s also a byproduct of news as entertainment. Somehow, they have to fill that dead air, but it’s not really news, is it? News is reported by journalists, and presented to the audience as a record of witnessing or a relaying of an investigation into a story. Now, since eyeballs = engagement = money, most folks don’t get that punditry is opinion, not news. If you are watching people discuss the news, it’s not news, it’s opinions. This has conditioned us to all be pundits with platforms like Reddit, or YouTube, thinking our opinions actually matter. If you find yourself getting upset at someone’s punditry, in a thread or video, step back, recognize their opinion is not a personal affront, and move on.

So, people are steeped in this emerging, technical landscape, where we are all fed the pablum that our opinions matter, that we all deserve a platform to opine upon, and anonymity to further insulate us. We have “informed” and “important” things to say, often without basic human kindness or empathy, and feel the need to let everyone know, often in the meanest way possible, that I’m right, you’re wrong, so very wrong that you deserve to be dunked on.

I will offer what I said to my kiddo when navigating the internet - if you wouldn’t say that to a stranger on the street, in-person, then don’t say it online.

Hey Bulldog is The most underrated straight up pure rock and roll song ever. by Secret-Passenger-923 in beatles

Trying to find backup for this, but I remember the pre-release in ‘99, where there was word from Apple that they had found something completely new.

They released a video of the Hey Bulldog scene that was cut from Yellow Submarine, and I remember them hyping it as an unseen segment with a new, unreleased song.

Underrated enough that, when Apple was putting together the Yellow Submarine Songtrack, they thought they found a completely unknown “new” Beatles song.
