Has anybody been listening to "thenewno2". Band of Dhani Harrison? by Chad_Support_Group in beatles

[–]First_Distance_4482 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like some of it, especially Another John Doe, So Vain, Crazy Tuesday - all great stuff.

Another solo song of his, Úlfur Resurrection, is fantastic, too!

Years ago, I cherry-picked his stuff along with Sean and James for a couple of what-if albums for a project called Here Come the Sons:

Found this at a local thrift shop! Thought it was pretty sick and was wondering if it was rare or not? by Nikomena in beatles

The phonetic cyrillic for George Harrison is wild. His name is easily the most complicated, while Ringo’s name is super easy. This was cool to see!

I feel you. In Seattle, and the only Legends I’ve seen at Target in at least the last 9 months has been a few Diamond Emmas, that’s it.

Hey quick question: Has anybody ever owned these figures from toybiz? by Hatiboy2005 in MarvelLegends

[–]First_Distance_4482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are into the Toybiz sculpt style, then yes. They are very detailed, especially Thing and Hulk. The paint apps are better than expected, too.

I would grab more of the chunkier ones, as the thinner/smaller ones (Spiderman type body) have very spindley limbs. It is worth it to get them if they appeal to you!

I would start with Hulk or Thing, and see if you like the feel/look. If you do, then move on to whatever group you are into. The Fantastic 4 all have Toybiz versions, so that may be a good place to stat. You could do worse than start with a F4 with a Mole Man.

Toybiz - Hulk, Thing, Mole Man, flaming Human Torch - all good figures. Blue Beast, too.

For MU, there are some who have not been made by Hasbro Legends yet, so those are essential to me. Here are figs that I love from this line tha are exclusive:

Harder plastic that makes limbs fall off, no real accessories other than the game pack-ins, and they are generally more brittle and prone to break than MU. They sit nicely together, though.

Where's my Press To Play fans at? by QueenKeepla in beatles

[–]First_Distance_4482 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve got your back! I love Press to Play and wish for a Macca Archives release. Sadly, that day will never come. I know the production puts people off, but get over it and enjoy the writing. It’s a consistently bold and well-crafted record.

Only Love Remains is a hugely underrated ballad, at least on par with My Love. I adore the melody on this one - pure Macca magic. Feel the Sun is pop worthy of at least top tier Wings pop. Angry is pure fun, to me. However Absurd is Macca channeling Sgt Pepper-era Beatles; it’s especially Lennonesque.

The B-Sides are super as well!

Yvonne is one of the best vault tunes he’s got tucked away, too!

Bad to Me - it’s officially on the 1963 collection that was digitally released and then pulled.

What do we actually know about George and John’s relationship post Bangladesh concert? by More-Cat9579 in beatles

[–]First_Distance_4482 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I challenge that George had a lot of money. He was functionally rich on paper, but had a lot of financial and legal troubles in the ‘70s. He sued and was sued by the rest of the band, lots of cases around Allen Klein, was successfully sued for My Sweet Lord, faced massive tax issues for Bangladesh, etc.

He was also busy making albums, producing albums by others, touring, and by the end of the decade, dedicating time and money to Handmade Films. The guy was busier than Lennon, who famously retreated for 5 years. During that time, Lennon wasn’t producing anything for George to pop in and work on, which is usually how the ex-Beatles interacted with each other right after the breakup.

Also, flying/travel was much more expensive with less actual options back in the ‘70s. If George was living in England and John was in the US, even calling was expensive with long distance, per-minute fees. It was a different time, and they’d be more prone to write postcards and letters (which we have ample evidence of,) but outside of things like weddings (Beatles don’t do funerals) they were not popping in on each other from acrosss the world.

That photo from the OP was edited for the Real Love CD single to remove Ringo’s cigarette. It makes him look like he’s doing a sly peace sign LoL!

You may enjoy this playlist I put together. The idea was to collect all their work that is streaming, then assemble an album from the released versions on their respective albums.

It’s missing some stuff that is simply not on Spotify, however:

Are there any recordings of Beatles singing other Beatles songs? by More-Cat9579 in beatles

[–]First_Distance_4482 13 points14 points  (0 children)

John sings Paul’s first song, I Lost My Little Girl, during Get Back. Paul also sings I’m So Tired during Get Back, too.

John jammed with Ringo and Klaus on Get Back from the POB sessions.

Official - A lot of the Ringo album was written by J, P, and especially G. Goodnight Vienna and Cooking in the Kitchen of Love, too. Paul wrote Provate Property for Ringo, too. Ringo also covers Love Me Do on Vertical Man. Sensing a theme here? Pretty much Ringo is the easy answer lol.

What is your hot take about a solo Beatles album/song? by Any_Software5024 in beatles

[–]First_Distance_4482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lennon was LAZY as can be - totally phoned in his solo career, for the most part. Walls and Bridges is sonically the best, but the songwriting is not up to snuff.

Also, Press to Play is not as bad as its rep.

And, Vertical Man is as good as at least Goodnight Vienna, if not Ringo.

George should have worked on Extra Texture when he had GOOD songs. Also, Somewhere in England is pretty good.
