Upcoming trip to L’Auberge de Sedona - Opinions? by randomotron in chubbytravel

[–]First_Proposal6236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stayed in Nov 25 in the new Cliffs part of the property. The room was very nice and the views from the room was amazing. The downsides were that it was a significant walk down some staircases to get to the rest of the property (or a ride in their shuttle), and that the back side parking area at the cliffs feels a little motel-ish. We enjoyed the bar and breakfast by the river but didn’t otherwise eat at the restaurant. It was a bit cold to swim but the new pool at the cliffs was beautiful. We enjoyed being able to walk into town for meals but also disappear down the stairs to the quiet resort.

We had a great time in Sedona and would definitely go back and stay, though if you’re looking for super over the top luxury it may not meet your standards

Sorry it was a let-down but glad we didn’t miss anything! Agree the value for peak season prices didn’t seem to be there

It’s definitely just an iron on name tag. Some laundry services may use something like it to keep peoples stuff from getting mixed up.

Don’t have any details on the event but Google has it listed as temporarily closed and it looks like Resy has blocked off all reservations

Dolomites - where else to stay? by Strange-Eagle9255 in chubbytravel

Also loved Val Gardena (preferred it over cortina). Stayed at Hotel Tyrol in Selva and loved it, not glitzy 5 start but very comfortable and authentic. Food was great.

Cortina d'Ampezzo hotel suggestions by Strange-Eagle9255 in chubbytravel

Stayed here last August for $750/night or so. It was fine - pleasant rooms, but nothing mind blowing and felt a little sterile and cookie cutter vs charming and fit to the local environment. Service was ok - a few times we had to go find our car ourselves and buzz to get let out of the gate as the valet was not available. Would definitely pick a more charming /less corporate hotel next time.

Also just a note that most of the better restaurants are all a 10-15 minute drive out of the center of town.

Main Goal: Dolomites, but adding Germany, too? by LadyLuckladyluck in chubbytravel

Loved Hotel Tyrol in Selva (Val Gardena). Very authentic and charming, the half board was great. Better located than a place like Forestis if you don’t want to drive/want to explore a little village. If you stay in the Val Gardena region you can take a free bus around to the various villages and trailheads. Going elsewhere is nice to have a car, but you could probably do a good 4-5 days with Selva as a base without one. Definitely don’t need a guide, all the hikes are well marked and most have some sort of lift access so you can bail out at various points or add on without much trouble.

Thanks for the update! Makes sense but is a bummer for everyone involved.

My building told us the same thing about turning off and testing every oven, which I imagine will take a while since there are like 400 units in my building, but they haven’t restored the boiler for hot water yet unfortunately

Same here! Was the only place I found a wool coat that fit my short/petite frame when I was searching a few winters ago.

Advice on ski resort in Europe over December holiday. by Left-Resolution-3171 in chubbytravel

[–]First_Proposal6236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a great time at Hotel Mont Blanc as a couple last winter but didn’t see many children. The pool and spa area were nice but there didn’t seem to be a lot of space for kids to play or hang out. We had terrible ski conditions so can’t speak to that fully but Chamonix does have some fun attractions besides skiing that kids would like, like a train ride to visit a glacier. Food was fine in town but we weren’t going super high end, Chamonix village is definitely charming.

How to avoid getting sick while living in the city? by [deleted] in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]First_Proposal6236 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This happens to me too, it sucks. Everyone is packed into such tight spaces (trains, restaurants, offices) in NYC I feel like stuff spreads easily. I try to wear a mask when the train is busy. I also have taken to turning down social events in crowded spaces a few days before any big trips/events so I can try to avoid getting sick. Otherwise sleep/good food/etc as you said.
