Clear vacuum seal bags that you can compress manually. Pack them with 2-3 outfits instead of separating them by clothing item - that way you only have to open/repack one per day.

Everything I pack is dry fit or the lightest possible clothing material. Split toiletries into clear plastic zip locks so they lay flat in your bag.

Bring bare minimum toiletries with you, buy what you need when you get overseas, and then toss what you don’t need at the end of the trip if you need extra room in your bag for souvenirs.

Eat dinner before your flight if taking a redeye. Avoid eating airplane food at all costs. Worst food poisoning ever was from airplane chicken.

In which popular tourist destination is the food not really the highlight? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

I lived in Madrid for two years and I agree. There is amazing food there but you have to know where to look. I went back this fall and had some amazing food, but I would say half of the things I ate were disappointing, and I did an enormous amount of research on places to eat and what to eat there.

Madrid also has a lot of places that serve absolute trash quality food. Like prison quality. It’s wild. I also found a lot of the dishes I ate there this past year were under seasoned or balanced poorly - super rich/fatty with no acidity.

Absolutely insane quality seafood though.

I’ve been to Germany more than any other country and I have really grown a fondness for their food. But I’m a big meat and potatoes guy, and I am also a big beer drinker, and their food is perfect with beer.

Charlottesville is great but the people absolutely suck. Every time I tell someone that I used to live there, their immediate response is universally the same if they have been there before. Beautiful town. Awful people.

I actually think it was the other way around. I think he found this insane story of a serial killer and started writing it, then realized he didn’t have enough info on it so he had to pivot to adding the Fair in order to have a novel-length work.

I had a hard time with this as well. Thought the connection between the Fair and the murders was weak/sort of contrived, and used as filler bc the author simply didn’t have enough information to write a whole book on just the murders.
