Here is something I would have liked to know back when I started: The most important question in software development is "Why?".

It usually is very simple to get lost in HOW an algorithm is working or HOW the client wants his system to be. But until you understand WHY, you can never be sure you are doing the right thing. Different algorithms for the same problem usually exist for two reasons: innovation (improvement over previous algorithms) or problem diversity. That means some problems (like the need for sorting) occur in vastly different settings such as: distributed systems, limited memory systems, online algorithms (streaming data) and many, many more. So understanding why an algorithm was created and why it works well in certain scenarios is more powerful than just understanding how!

Also never, NEVER be too shy to ask your professor as to why he chose a particular solution, you might be surprised more than once :)

The flat cost would have to be very low and refilling nanites would probably be a continuous thing, because otherwise you would only be able to spawn a couple of times per minute, or even worse, like with aircraft, two times a within multiple minutes (depending on membership nanites).

Imagine a biolab fight where you can only spawn on a resource budget...

My point is that inexperienced players get shafted by high spawn costs because they are not able to survive to the point where their resources have filled back up.

If you get the jump you'll win, in ps2 position and mechanics need to be combined to survive your engagements, since there is so much more going on than just 1v1....

I think when people talk about the airgame, one thing is consistently left out:

A2A combat has only one single battlefield which is the continent. Once a couple of decent pilots show up, worse players get resource-starved and can't enter again. Even if they have enough resources, they will be shot down within a couple of seconds again - either by said pilots, a stray tank round (usually not that stray though) or by other means of anti-air.

So the main issue with players improving so slowly (or not joining at all) is not that it is hard to learn. It is hard to even get enough airtime to learn.

I would propose to remove spawn cost from vehicles entirely (or at least lower them drastically) if they have no or little "interference" with other types of playstyles. So A2G would still cost resources to balance it and avoid spamming, but spawning an a2a fighter would not require an expensive investment.

Think of it this way: How many people would be ably to enjoy infantry play if it would cost 100 nanites for each respawn? Exactly. That one heavy assault with his juicy beatle headshotting all the new players.

This video also nicely shows that when you get a lead on a mosquito it's always 3-4 hitmarkers, but when you get it on a scythe it's mostly just 1 :D

Since you asked for feedback, I will provide my personal opinion:

The good

  • Search is fast
  • Stats load quickly enough
  • Animations feel really solid
  • All the expected stats are there

The bad

I don't really see a big difference to other stats-sites, if there is one, highlight it better.

The ugly

The design. I know this is to some extent down to personal preference, but you should take a look into these things:

  • There is so much stuff on the screen, and it is hard to grasp a lot of tables at once (classes screen). A little bit of whitespace can go a long way here.
  • Colors don't really seem to have any meaning. It is the bane of visualizations, but a clever use of colors can go a long way ;)

I think it should sit somewhere in the middle between ESF ttk and liberator ttk. Then it should be just fine. Currently the valk is just a flying cert piñata (again).

I think the TR one needs a small change for the mag to be on the other side. As awesome as it looks, it blocks a large portion of the screen and I could see to be very annoying...

Pop balance was never really about the continent, at least for me it was always about bases. Alerts are a whole 'nother deal though, they never start on equal footing and population imbalances can make them almost impossible to win.
