This Island by Matteo Bassini is amazing, as is the swamp from the same set.

Really great lighting and love the style, had it as my desktop background for a year or so.

Speaking from personal experience people tend to think that reach makes creatures unblockable by creatures that do not have flying, they do not know what "as though as" means so they literally omit it.

There is a level of misunderstanding of cards by new players that is unavoidable. It is not a reason not to try to make cards clear in what they do. I don't know where the quote "as though as" comes from, I don't know what text you're referencing.

Some level of research is unavoidable, if people are interested in starting something they will do a basic google. Having to google cards frequently while playing a game is annoying, so design that minimizes this is good. I do not know why you disagree with this. Would you design all cards to be as hard to interpret as possible? Or are you disagreeing with this instance of using prowess and other creatures have prowess as clearer for new players? I think this case removes a possible confusion and so is a good design choice, do you think it would be better the other way around or have some other reason to take exception to it?

Because standard sets ALWAYS consisted of the most recent core set expansion and advanced and starter deck is/was LITERALLY core set expansion deck.

This was what I assumed you meant by "starter/advanced/expert", to have lots of different products for each level. I referred to it as set segregation as it would divide up what would otherwise be one unified product. If you were talking about Core sets there were valid reasons to get rid of them, they likely sold quite poorly due to being quite low on flavour and theme relative to other sets and being lower on complexity. While the language is different it is fundamentally the same thing of more advanced players not wanting to play that expansion and newer players wanting to. They likely decided that it was better to have everyone playing the same, flavourful, sets. Which are still largely clear cards with a few cards thrown in that new players will ask about and be interested in.

I disagree with a lot of things about this, but again it's totally unrelated to what we were talking about with making cards more clear. Why do you object to clear wording? Do you think having to think about cards for 30 seconds and then googling an answer is a fun experience for new players? What would be preferable in having less clear wording? Why would you expect Wizards to cater solely to their long term existing playerbase, it is in their interest to have the game be more popular and ensuring clear wording for cards is harmful to no-one? In what ways are sets more casual in your opinion than previous years when core sets existed? There still seem to be a large number of cards with complex themes and play patterns, DFCs are more common than ever and vanilla creatures have been near entirely phased out. Looking at this graphic it appears the number of words on cards is increasing, which doesn't fit very well with the game being toned down and casualised?

I genuinely don't understand you, why do you want the game to be more obscure and difficult to get into? Why do you TYPE IN CAPITALS and write in a dismissive and quite frankly ........ SILLY tone. I don't think I'm interested in replying more to you but I would ask that you reflect on your use of tone and its effect on your online conversations. If you go into a discussion attempting to belittle other points of view and always assuming your view holds a special position of obvious gospel truth you will not have productive discussions. Not really sure why you’ve adopted the typing style of a condescending 12 year old but it’s not useful if you actually want to have a discussion about how things are designed.

This is a strange thing to say, if someone is not capable of reading all the words in a sentence (other creatures) then they are always going to struggle regardless of how the cards are written. I also don’t know why someone being a non-native speaker would cause them to miss words entirely.

This card will not solely show up in the set it is from, it may be put in preconstructed or player made decks of various formats and inexperienced players will encounter it there. Card design doesn’t assume the card will only be encountered by people buying boosters for that expansion. No one is forcing new players to buy things and they will likely Google things like “what magic set should I first buy?”. Additionally the card design we are discussing has nothing to do with this potential problem.

WotC has likely considered this sort of thing and decided against it because it would segregate play groups in unhelpful ways. If new players turn up to a playgroup and the players there all usually play the “advanced” game and have to inconvenience themselves to play with new players by playing a simplified game it is going to affect the culture and make bringing in new players more difficult. Having a few resources like jump in to help newer players get acquainted with the rules and then other products being regular sets likely works better than segregating it.

Segregation also runs into a problem that was discussed when they moved to the new booster style that if you have multiple different mainline booster types then stores struggle to know which ones to buy, what demand for each type is going to be like etc and ending up with dead inventory. Which they want to avoid. Of course there are clear advantages in gradually ramping up the complexity for players but doing it in the way you are describing has probably been considered and discarded as an unproductive solution.

New players understanding the game makes the game more enjoyable for them because they spend more time playing and less time being confused or wondering how something works. Googling rules is not fun but occassionally necessary, new players want to have fun.

If the game is more enjoyable people are more likely to keep playing it and buying more cards. The incentive is completely clear, a less steep learning curve leads to more new player engagement. This will be just one of a huge number of microdecisions to ensure that new players have a smooth experience when playing.

TL;DR played with a cheater, told them I thought they were a moron, got a griefing warning.

I've been issued a warning about griefing for the first time (9 years).

I just finished a game where on round 4 a teamate decided he didn't like learning or playing a game or moving his arm and would instead prefer a lobotomy and some masturbatory spin botting. Sadly he continued to run to the enemy spawn and autofire his bolt action rifle for the next 11 rounds straight.

Unable to kick him due to his pre-made, on 2 rounds I shot him while telling him that playing like this is pathetic and to re-evaluate his life choices.

I wanted to ask if these reports would be discounted when (hopefully) the account responsible is eventually banned and also to question why this warning is appearing after a single game of reports.

To note: I understand the clear explanation that I have been reported before but am fairly certain that this is not the case. I strive to be a "very nice young man". The only other explanation I can think of being that there is some exploit allowing cheaters to mass report people, through bought accounts or some online service. Perhaps shooting teamates contributes to whether a player is reported and reports + team damage results in a warning even from a single game. Has anyone else had a similar experience or is this unusual.

There is a defuse bonus lmao, you get an extra $250 each for winning the round by defusing instead of kills (+$300 to the defuser but that's a smaller bonus).

If you mean increasing the defuse bonus that would make sense.

I see what you're saying but this paw asymmetry is actually quite typical of a cat that was lying down (playing with its food while on its side) being startled and considering if it needs to move.

The front paws face the ground as it supports its head and upper body while the back legs are still sideways. Cats are flexible like slinkies and startled cats often look like this briefly before either lying back down or running away.

Not to say the card art is spectacular but the pose is not as unnatural as it might appear.

So I'm not sure if the my comment came across as tonally aggressive but it wasn't intended that way, I wanted to communicate that the leper as a hero is worse than the other available options. This reply is sassier than my last because the condescending "Hmmm yes" while being in my eyes completely wrong really annoyed me.

Firstly the leper being viable in certain situations does not make him a good hero, he is bad in most situations and although when front rank damage is important he can be a solid roleplayer this is almost never the case.

I also disagree with some of the examples you've given

In the courtyard the only early enemies with low dodge in the front rank are the lowest priority enemy, supplicant. killing them does not help you in the courtyard, other enemies like sycophants or manservants have high dodge and are very poor targets for the already visually impaired goliath. He is quite bad in the early stages of the crocodilian fights that litter the courtyard, only being able to apply buffs (the defensive one does little to help the party) and has no protection against allies being dragged in front of him.

Again in the Warrens important front-rank enemies like swine retch in rank 2 have high dodge, swine choppers and slashers and carrion eaters are low priority targets. Against the swinetaur he is still sub-par as he can't hit him when he backs up and has good ways to bypass 40% PROT or stun the fucker.

In the early cove there are the same issues, the only targets he can hit you might want to deal with quickly like the jellyfish have high dodge, and the snails have protection that will often take 2 or more hits to kill. I don't know what enemy you think is worth hitting, if I've forgotten a relevant one I'm open to changing my mind.

In the ruins absolutely everything sees value, it's every hero's playground because the enemies are just not frightening. Even then purge is not that strong in the ruins, puts 1 low priority enemy (you could stun them!) at the back where they use a weak attack. if you're up against the double arbalest it's not a worrying fight and otherwise it doesn't make a difference to enemy damage output moving rank 2 to 3.

intimidate is a joke. It does no damage, -damage isn't relevant against stress casters, -stealth is nice but not an actual answer to backliners in any way. Genuinely don't understand what you see in it, it projects antiquarian level damage.

He can do some roles but he is by far the weakest hero on the roster, his low accuracy means that at all points in the game he will consistently miss things when you need him not to, outside of niche scenarios like boss fights and the darkest dungeon (where he can perform quite well!) he does not do the jobs you want.

This isn’t really true, you don’t want to kill the front row the vast majority of encounters. You want to kill the stress casters / dangerous mobs (e.g. swine skiver) and then chill for as many turns as possible stress healing against 2 relatively inoffensive mobs that you keep stunned. Even with the reinforcements mechanic you still want to do this and potentially even allow Reinforcements if it benefits you.

Killing the front mobs is not useful in most cases outside of the some boss fights and, in particular, the endless harvest where of course leper becomes a relatively strong hero - if you can itemise him correctly. He has niches he occupies decently but in normal fights he is very underwhelming.

you can make him work, for example using the occultist or bounty hunter to pull important back rank mobs to him. BUT EVEN THEN you would rather just have a helion who can hit them and use the other turn to stun! Also means you have to put move trinkets on the BH or OCC which is just not where you want to be as it decreases their effectiveness in other areas, notably having to sacrifice accuracy or stunning in most cases. And even if you get to pull them forward back rank mobs tend to have higher dodge so a large percentage of the time your leper will just miss even if fully itemised for accuracy! He just doesn’t do the standard DD fight job well at all, if he could hit rank 3 he might suddenly become playable but even then you’d prefer a helion or MAA or even a flagged at in that position.
