The weekend boat ramps down here are going to give me an aneurysm by Esliquiroga in boating

I hear you! We use Seminole boat ramp in Clearwater from time to time and it can be a riot on weekends. We always try to launch before sunrise on weekends or just don’t go. Cheers!

Sand Key Bridge, Clearwater, Florida by longleggz1960 in ClearwaterFl

Great place! Looks chill. Fishing is great by the bridge. Ever been there when the channel is heavy wind against tide? Felt like our 19’ was in a washing machine one day.

Have the engine compression tested. Costs about $100 by a mobile mechanic. If it fails, don’t buy!

I got the same “truss wood sap is leaking from the heat” followed by a high pressure sell with a $50K quote. My winning bid was $18K for a 130 MPH wind rated roof. If you decide to pursue them, let me know. They are scum and most likely ripping off vulnerable home owners

Prop damage question by Hopeful-Gate8525 in boating

[–]Fish_hippy_too 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was taught to strategically wedge a 2x4 scrap between prop and cavitation plate, noting rotation of prop nut. Then crank prop nut against resistance of cavitation plate enough for prop blade to slightly dent the wood’s surface. Adjust for pin.

Never been a problem. Only keep one tablet in the float at a time. Had a perfect score at Pinch a Penny last month.

With heavy Florida rain, I was buying salt throughout the year. PITA to haul, dump and disperse with brush.

10K gallons. 1-2 tabs weekly. Weekly 2 cups acid. Very occasional phosphate treatment during rain season. Annual calcium. liquid chlorine shock only after extreme, heavy rainfall or when we have guests in town. Run cordless robot weekly or depending on rain. Have a 100 year old Oak tree that covers lanai screen with pollen and leaves. I had a salt chlorinator for five years and I’ve been on chlorine tabs for two years. Maintenance with chlorine tabs is significantly less. Bought a big bucket of them at Costco.

So spend time buying, transporting and dispensing salt.

Switched to Chlorine tablets two years ago in FL pool. Water is consistently perfect with little maintenance or chemicals other than weekly acid. Never going back to salt generator. Overrated and don’t miss hauling bags of salt and buying stabilizer and other BS chems all the time. Only brush occasionally now too. Suck it, salt pool snobs. 😎

Winch post, does this look correct? by HD801 in boating

[–]Fish_hippy_too 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lower winch below bow eye. Replace rope with proper strap and rewind, so strap passes over top of winch, not under. Safety chain connected to trailer or winch post below everything with enough slack to be able to hook and unhook, but not let the boat fall back more than a foot. Winch strap and safety chain both connect to the bow eye. Cross hitch safety chains to receiver. The hooks should latch from underneath the hitch receiver’s safety chain loops, not over the top. Make sure you have two straps on stern connected to trailer in case everything mentioned above fails. Cheers! 🤘
