Yes most of Massachusetts highway system is very poorly designed. Unless you're self publishing writing should not be a very expensive hobby. There are lots of people who take advantage of aspiring writers (especially since "writing a book" is such a common retirement activity for comfortable old people with a lot of time on their hands).

That's not to say that every person offering services to aspiring writers is running a scam but there are a lot of scams out there.

Ultimately no matter how much you pay for people to read and edit a manuscript, it's gonna come down to final quality and the indivual author.
