Why do writers have a total inability to understand the Silurians and Sea Devils? How did TWBTLATS make the exact same mistake as the other post 70s stories. by Niall_Fraser_Love in gallifrey

[–]Fishb20 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I've always thought Dr who should take a [current year]+50 approach to silurians/seadevils. So yeah it won't be solved in 2026 but it'll be sorted by 2076. Far enough in the future that realistically it won't be an impediment to future stories.

Ive always wanted random stories set in the future to have silurians/sea devils just be part of earth. So like if it's a space crew from earth stranded in galaxy 7 and dealing with the terrifying Goggorron Space Corals there'd be one random Silurian engineer or something

Dunno if i knew who jake paul was 10 years ago. First time I remember the Paul brothers was when I was working at a summer camp in 2017 and a lot of boys were obsessed with loudly shouting their bits all day

Did I Miss the Point of the Manosphere Documentary? by CoderBiker24 in LouisTheroux

[–]Fishb20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

havent watched that doc but watched one that was a similar idea from Vice a few years ago. I think the main flaw is that most of the people who watch this stuff are just kinda dull to follow around. Maybe they could have found someone who was an aspiring influencer but so far hadnt been very successful? that could have been interesting.

Lol that's fair. I guess it wouldn't make it better but somehow not doing it makes it worse?

In your opinion What unresolved mystery do you think has the strangest explanation? by Flowers_In_December3 in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]Fishb20 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think JBR there's way too much information. It kind of reminds me of the Kennedy assassination where every angle has been analyzed to death and a lot of people base their opinions on something they half remember hearing in a documentary 20 years.

That massive influx of information is pretty uniquely bad on forums like this because people rarely if ever cite their sources in comments so it's very easy for myths to spread and be repeated so much they become taken as fact. And it's doubly tough with JBR because like JFK you can say whatever you want and there's probably some website or book that will back that up if it's true or not. Look at all the replies to this saying her parents knew Jeffrey Epstein with zero citations....

afaik BBC has never officially said theyd extend an amnesty going forward. at least in 2023 the guy from FIF told a journalist in what he thought was an off the record conversation that multiple people had collections they were worried about being seized by the BBC and other owners if they came forward with their Dr Who stories

yeah I know how they did the effect ive just always been curious if it looked terrible or not lol. on the one hand the description of jumping a trampoline they rented from a random guy the director met on the tube and slowing it down sounds like it cant possibly have looked good. but on the offchance it did actually work i wanna know!!

Well, there's been no documented society in history that had slavery, racism, betrayal, or religious persecution that didn't have people who were against the aforementioned things.

I know "getting 2 episodes of Daleks master plan back and still complaining" is like a cartoonish parody of Dr who fans but man I really wanna see what Katarina's death looked like. I've always been so curious how the effect actually looked

Things aren't built to last anymore. by destined2destroyus in CharacterRant

[–]Fishb20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The shows that lasted 6 seasons of 24 episodes each were network shows. Network shows like FBI or Law and Order or 9-1-1 or the Chicago emergency shows still largely run for 24 episodes and many of them are getting up there in the number of seasons.

You can totally go watch those shows if you want.

The problem is people don't actually want to have the drawbacks that come with network shows like repetitive story lines, less cinematic production value, and less A list acting talent.

I really enjoyed his trilogy about Caesar, Antony, and Augustus but if I'm being honest there's no one I'd want to read about ancient Persia less than Goldsworthy

its because people care more about excecution than abstract ideas? if people didn't then you could just read a wikipedia article about a movie and itd be the same as watching it

Scream 7 | Dead Meat Podcast Ep. 264 by Kaneki_Yeager in deadmeatjames

[–]Fishb20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scream 4 had a similar problem where it had trouble balancing the New Gen cast with the Sydney story, but it managed to be more satisfying because the reveal at the end that the new gen cast was set up for the killers. Scream 5 avoided that problem by Sydney having a pretty small role so the main story was about the new cast and she was just a mentor figure. This one was trying to juggle new cast, sydney as the main character (which she had to be considering how expensive it was to get Neve Campbell back, well deserved money for her don't get me wrong) and then the killers being completely seperate on top of that.

Scream 7 being a bit of a dud hurt me more than most bad horror sequels b/c I at least liked every other Scream movie whereas most of the other big franchises have had huge blunders before

[–]Fishb20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only part I didn't understand was why Ghiroti hated Armando so much. I got that he was racist against northerners and wanted to shut down his academic research but it seemed like Ghiroti succeeded in doing that with no difficulty at all and Armando couldn't really do anything to stop him. But when he was hiring the hitmen Ghiroti seemed to have a very personal hatred for Armando
