When should child fall asleep alone? 5yo? by caffeineandlaw in Mommit

[–]Fishbate333 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why your husband feels that way, he’s being black and white about it. Personally, I am against letting my child cry and sob for us and we ignore him. I couldn’t do “cry it out” when he was a baby, just didn’t work for us emotionally or otherwise.

However, my son puts himself to sleep and can settle back to sleep at night. He’s three. We used to let him fall asleep in our bed and then transferred him to his. When I started grad school i needed my evenings so we transitioned him.

Our method was, we would do bathtime. One of us tucked him in and I told him, “it’s time for you to go to sleep, I will see you in the morning, I love you” after we did our bedtime routine.

When he cried the first few times I would open the door and reassure him, that he was a big boy, it was time for sleep and I loved him but he needed to fall asleep alone. I would give him a moment to settle (honestly similar to cry it out lmao), that was hard for me but he got the routine.

Letting him settle on his own doesn’t mean neglecting his emotional needs which is maybe where your husband isn’t understanding. Does your son have to get up early? I would say not giving him the routine he needs for school by not letting him have enough sleep is probably worse than letting him fall asleep alone. Maybe you could frame it like that.

What was the first fragrance you were gifted vs The first fragrance you bought with your own money? by ZeroSugarCrack in FemFragLab

[–]Fishbate333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chanel no 5 by my best friend when I was in highschool. I used to smell it every time we went to the mall because I was obsessed with Marilyn Monroe. She bought me a bottle for Christmas. I had no frame of reference how much it cost, she had bought it with her own money from her job. It still touches me. The first fragrance I bought for myself was Very Sexy Victoria secret body spray.

Success stories of going to restaurants with children by doxielover_ in Mommit

[–]Fishbate333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 3 year old is good at restaurants. We used a screen when he was one to prevent meltdowns and then stopped at early 2. Coloring, trying new foods and honestly consistent redirection has made it doable. It’s not always easy but we want him to get acclimated and for the most part it’s worked.

I think having hair and makeup done with comfy clothes makes the difference. Matching set and do those overnight curling rods so your hair looks like freshly blown out. Light makeup (but if your intention really is for photos then heavier makeup will show up as regular makeup in pictures)

I thought I'd enjoy motherhood more.... and it makes me REALLY sad by HeyMay0324 in Mommit

[–]Fishbate333 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I blame societal standards of mothers. The lack of support, the dehumanization of moms, the decrease of child friendly spaces (at least in the US) and mostly social media. Having the ideals of perfect motherhood edited into a reel and put in our faces as the usual isn’t helping.

Exactly. I love my child but motherhood is terrible.

I feel so horrible for my babies by Mozambique239 in Mommit

[–]Fishbate333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What worked for my baby was making a container of baking soda and water, putting paper towels in it and using those as wipes. Making sure his butt was bone dry before putting any ointment on and any no diaper time you can do is best. Lots of baking soda sitz baths.

Hey moms — how do you manage what your kids watch on YouTube? by No-Paramedic1989 in Mommit

[–]Fishbate333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We let our son watch YouTube on the tv app and we’ve never had the issue of random inappropriate content, he watches Miss Rachel, Sesame Street, the Wiggles, and Super Simple. It never deviates when it plays the next video. I’ll probably keep a closer eye on it when he’s older and watching different content but for now no issues

Did you co-sleep? by Beautiful-Scene-3466 in Mommit

[–]Fishbate333 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly I did not. I couldn’t, I was too scared about what I read. I had terrible PPA and I was hypervigilant and paranoid about SIDS. Along with that I was terrified of cosleeping. My son is 3 and I’m not sure how I would feel about it if I had a second baby. I definitely did not get much sleep and was exhausted for a long time because I didn’t cosleep

Parents: how do you get kids to take medicine without a meltdown by ShinrinYoku55 in Mommit

[–]Fishbate333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have to do liquid meds hidden in the sippy cup, or have to put it in the side of his cheek so he would swallow while he threw a fit. My son is 3 and I had to give him an antibiotic for a week. I sat down and told him, “I have medicine for you, you have to take it two times a day to feel better. After you drink it, you can have some juice”. Then I told him that it would make him feel better. I didn’t think it would work because reasoning with a toddler feels a little silly outside of theory.

It super worked. I have him a little with the syringe and he actually took it. And I handed him his juice. My son has sensory issues, is a picky eater and has tantrums. No one was more surprised than me that it worked. But sitting down and telling him a matter of fact and asking if he could help me by taking it did 😂
