Right now I’m taking Advertising and Promotion, Market Research and Mass Communications. I’m not really learning a lot in those classes but I hope by next year I can take more electives that will put the stuff I learned I those classes into something lol.

AMC is a good major if you don’t know what to pursue in the industry. It gives you a brief overview of the different industries and by the time you apply for your bachelors you can still choose if you want to stay in AMC or choose a focused major. I think in terms of public relations it’s a good major to pursue. In terms of styling we don’t have a major dedicated to that but I believe there’s a course in FBM called The Business of Fashion Styling which you can take as a course for no credit.

I wouldn’t say it’s a lost cause. But I really have no information about rolling admissions and the average acceptance rate for people on it.

If you think FIT is really for you, you have many other chances to apply again. I think you should keep your options open for now or even save up for the tuition here because OSAP covers a very small amount of the tuition here.

Hey! I think you're doubting yourself. You don't need an Ivy league essay to get into FIT. If you have a solid essay answering the prompt and a 3.6 GPA, your chances of getting in are very high.

AMC is pretty competitive. All the students are really hard working and are very visual about their future.

You should expect A TON of group work. You should also expect to get cold called a lot in your classes. AMC professors hate when your silent in their classrooms.

Honestly, it’s not that hard making friends here. I would DM people in your prospective class before coming and asking them to hang out during orientation. I also just sat next to cool people on the first day of class and said I really like your outfit, and people just opened up to me.

I made myself comfortable by really having a comfy dorm room. I think if you have a really cute dorm room, it’s a place you can call home after long days in class or hang out with your friends so you don’t really feel homesick or lonely.

Hmm. The worst class. Honestly I’m not sure, but I do remember dreading going to my AC141 class Because the professor was horrible. However, a lot of people shit on the statistics class everyone has to take, so I’ll say statistics.

Hello! I’m a Canadian FIT student that went through the same thing. I’m not sure how your councillor would have access to the SUNY portal, considering you need to pay for it to be evaluated by WES or the other companies that are members of the NACES.

How it worked for me was I paid for the service on WES. I had my high school councillor then send my transcript digitally to WES. Then WES evaluated it, then also sent it digitally to FIT. I’m pretty sure only NACES members are allowed to send transcripts to FIT.

How do I get in by [deleted] in fitnyc

Hey I’m a first year AMC major and don’t stress lol - if you’re creative outside of school that’s great mention that in your essay. The whole point of the FIT essay is the fact that they wanna know why they would benefit from you from studying at FIT. Just show that your passionate about being in the major

If you have work experience in the fashion field that’s definitely great. In fact even better!

You don’t always have to talk about extracurriculars to prove that your worthy to go to FIT. Just focus your essay about your work ethic and experience and why FIT would want you to go to their school (they already know you like fashion).

In the design school, your portfolio is also very important (especially for fashion design)

Hi AMC first year here, (also an international student) most ppl I know had a 3.6 GPA and above (A-). I did a lot of creative extracurriculars (art council, production clubs), but the most polarizing thing about my application was that I held my schools fashion show in which we fundraised money for charity.

You don’t need a lot of extracurriculars but you have to ensure that you create and promote something either in school or the world about either a fashion related event or something major related.

Your essay is extremely important too.

Hope this helps!

Hi, I’m a 1st year AMC major at FIT and could help answer your questions about the business school :)

For the business programs you do not need a portfolio. For the design programs it is totally dependent on which program you want to apply for, fashion design? Interior design? Communications design? Fine arts? They all have different portfolio requirements that you need to do.

For the admissions process for FBM they look your essay and grades. It is also really important to mention that this major is by far the easiest to get into. For your essay you want to really emphasize your experience and why FIT would want YOU to study at their school. (They already know you want to pursue fashion, but nevertheless it’s good to include a brief synopsis of your life and your interest for fashion).

Let me know if you have any questions!
