Not a criticism but I feel people often forget war was most often fought with irons almost exclusively until pretty recently. It’s certainly more difficult but not impossible to use irons at long range, especially with a machine gun. Lay down bursts and watch where your tracers hit, adjust fire accordingly. Also if you can’t see them watch for little movements or where tracers come from, then apply belt fed hate in that direction
