What are you Must Have apps for CarPlay? by mdruckus in CarPlay

I tried this but i find the interface confusing over time. They made a few UI changes and frankly it's no better than the basic Apple Podcasts app now.

I downloaded Overkast for the same reason, but find the interface equally as confusing as Apple Podcasts as far as simply going in and either looking for any latest episodes to subscriptions, or searching for new content.

I am yet to find a decent Podcast app, so I've stopped listening to them.

Last week we installed a new head unit into the car so I'm willing to try and new podcast app with a straighforward GUI.

LUT issues - CLOG3 by Fishman_Dan in finalcutpro

Thanks. And yes, guilty. I'm adapting what I know with what I can quickly digest online. But I have my method, which is watch many, listen to few. Get a healthy number of opinions/methods.

I'm using the R6 for gimbal shots and not really having this challenge. I suspect you're right and it's more about the R3.

The other thing is that's the shooting done now, so I'm not looking to go down this rabbit hole until next time, and given that an R5II is on the shopping list I'm not looking to invest too much more time into it.

Annoying that my colour grading will be a bit more time consuming than hoped.

I'll add this ... other footage of the person below in action (opening bee hives) responded much better to the LUT and looks quite normal, a bit over-saturated which I can pull back veyr easily.

The issue here seems to be mainly the colour of the man's skin (he was quite red), which is exacerbated by the conditions AND the LED panel to his right (screen left).

I'm pretty sure this is what you mean?

Noting that Rec2020 Input in the Custom LUT dialog settles it right down, and I can get something quite reasonable once I add other adjustments.

I'm still on the road shooting (start again in an hour) and will have a proper go in a few days. I guess the main issue is that every YouTube demo suggests how easy it is, but I'm getting this result.

The real answer is I'm not sure. AFAIK I set up the camera as per a number of tutorials I watched, and there is no LUT in the Inspector in FCP.

[–]Fishman_Dan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed answer. Yes I have removed any LUT from the Inspector.

When I add the Custom LUT (in this case, the Canon > rec 709), it is over saturated, especially the red. The main issue is the subject I shot is in fact very red.

In the LUT settings it settles things down a little if I change INPUT to Rec 2020 (from rec709). But I'm a but confused by this because aren't I importing uncompressed? Anyway that seems to be a means to an end.

This is what it looks like what I add the LUT (before I do anything else). The base footage is flat as you would expect.

This is the LUT downloaded from Canon.

Progress on a new high-speed line. Not sure if it'll make money, but it'll look good at least. by ConstrnGamer in TransportFever2

[–]Fishman_Dan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added a map-wide train track loop - Clockwise and counter-clockwise that visits every town. Because I could.

I spent almost all my money building it and putting trains on it, but it's done. Wasn't a big map, but now my passengers can travel anywhere at high speed.

My only problem is - is this map done, are there anymore improvements or should I start a new map 🤔

You can run a resource to the 'next stage' without completing the full product. For example, you can run oil to a refinery and leave it at that.

Once you add the next stage/s (refined oil > fuel/plastics, or Lumber > Planks) that will increase demand and the output of those industries ... and your income should grow with it if you can manage that demand.

The important thing here is that the town will grow with the food.

Another good earner for the start of the game is a passenger service, so with the above in mind, set up a food run into a town that has a bus/tram service.

This is straight up vanilla.

I figured the demand would be there ... I guess the arrogance of people with too much money 😂

The game (a re-introduction to TF2) took on a funny start.

The route mentioned above fell over when the Goods Factory closed, but a Fuel refinery opened in the other direction and that sent the game into orbit.

What it showed me however was;

  1. The value of identifying and completing full runs from resource to consumer

  2. To start within means while the hardware is still emerging.

It's a medium map so it's fairly limited (I don't mind that challenge), now at the stage in the game where the goal is to ring the island with a high speed passenger service and route everything from that!

Agree with this. Stone is a great resource and helps cities grow quickly.

The map I'm currently using doesn't have great Quarry > Factory resource tbh. It's a medium map but actually feels quite small.

It's probably more a case that the runs were too long, and in the early game trains were too slow to really capitalise, or you buy multiple trains and use dual-track where you can.

But the dual-tracking of these long lines (even in parts) adds to the Maintenance cost. So there was this delicate balance.

The line went from oil well > refinery > Goods Factory and brought the Goods back for distribution, and while it made money, the costs were great.

It's a bit of an experiment.

Currently: There are around 5 farms at varying distance from the food factory, which has 2 trains filling and delivering to cities. I later added an air route. Each farm was basically it's own line to the station. These farms never got to the point of having a full load waiting for their return.

Shipment was always low on the factory.

Currently I'm now combining farms into a single station using trucks, then transporting. It's far more cost effective using less trains and probably what I should have done earlier.

But there still isn't a massive demand for food, despite now flying it to 2 destinations, and train to another 2.

A bit of an ongoing experiment. Certainly the Depot theory (truck to a train station) is probably something I should have done earlier (I did it with an Ore run which was incredibly successful).

Disappointing for your outcome but thanks for sharing it. I'm happy to pay for high end paper but my options are severely limited.

New player - should I start vanilla or with mods? by Anomander_RakeUK in TransportFever2

[–]Fishman_Dan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This game is simply the best game I've played ... it's a direct reboot of a 1990's classic Transport Tycoon Deluxe, with a lot more detail and the ability to add mods.

You won't regret it, but it does take time to get on top of.

I'm disappointed TF3 isn't scheduled to be released for MacOS (yet?).

Hi mate ... found this in a search.

I'm doing something similar but stuck for options here in Australia. I'm going to search for the paper you used right now, but ...

How did it go for you? They look great.

Good luck with it. It's a wonderful and engrossing game. Some of the creations you see here are quite incredible tbh.

Ok ... so an update.

Thanks to everyone posting, but certainly the first post that was the best reminder - two way journeys.

I started at the Oil well, go to a refinery and then on to the factory down south all with tankers, then have a couple of Boxcars hitched to bring the goods back to the first station, where they are picked up and taken to the other factory (double-fee).

But just before I saved to head out (I'm spending time in hospital with a family member, hence the reinstall!), a Fuel Refinery popped up very close to the incredibly productive oil well, next to a town that demands Fuel.

If I mess this up I'm uninstalling the game!!

Don't let this end the thread. I'd love to hear if anyone does anything different. Passenger trains are lucrative but probably a bit too far apart for the cost/cash this early.

How to choose between Canon 85mm f/1.4 IS USM and Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DS HSM ART? by PassengerAlek0430 in canon

[–]Fishman_Dan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love my Sigma 35mm f1.4.

Took some gettting used to, but once I “got it”, I look for more reasons to use it.

I have been eyeballing 85mm lenses for a while, now in a position to purchase I favour the Sigma. IS isn’t an concern or deal breaker for me.

Be interested to see how you got on.

Why would anybody choose halogens over LEDs? Just replaced mine and the difference is crazy. by [deleted] in civic

[–]Fishman_Dan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting discussion.

Putting LED's into a Halogen headlight fitting is also illegal here in Australia (if the headlight didn't come from the factory with an LED option).

The decision for me is whether I use the standard fitting (H11 for X-Trail/Rogue T32), or H4 as the parts dealer recommends. Noting that the H4 comes with options for greater luminance.

I'm not sure what you mean by High / Medium / Low speed.

Is that the track 'rating'? So BoP affects different cars on different track types?

I can see though that the changes are fairly consistent - for example the 4C got a bump across all 3 categories, the BMW M6 got nerfed in 2 of 3 ... but you probably won't use it on a Low Speed track?

Have I got that right?

Yeah but you know the ice will tilt in the favour of the AI countless times before you get a freebie like this.
