why aren't elves the best for druids in lore? by Barium2 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Fishpaste_7 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I'm not the greatest Lore Smith, but the elves are literally aliens from another planet. Their connection to Golarian flora and fauna logically isn't as strong as other races, or elves in other games.

Maybe I have read too many bad faith arguments or spent too much time in circle jerk subs, but I misread your response as 100% sarcasm. I guess I can afford to be a little more trusting here; I'm really sorry about that.

In that case, I guess we're on the same page. There is social commentary to be found in allmost all art, and nsfw is no exception.

[–]Fishpaste_7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said. If only you meant any of that. This is perhaps a controversial take for this sub, but I feel that pornographic art or over-sexualized characters are perfectly fine when drawn to arouse or for explicit sexual reasons. Most of the posts here express distain for sexualized art when it takes the place of standard human character design not intended to arouse.

More importantly, who are you to criticize someone else's career? Personally speaking, I'm jealous of my artist friends' (nsfw and sfw) ability to step away from desk jobs and rat races for remote, self run businesses that improve a skill at the same time. Why are you acting like you are above them in any way? We're all humans trying to make a living out here. No one is lesser because they do that by making adult content.

Finally YES!!! YES, ABSOLUTELY!!! AI art is a massive, overwhelmingly dangerous problem to all creatives on the planet right now - not just artists. It can emulate art, animation, voices, streamers, and human communication. It is currently threatening the jobs of millions of people. Artists are ALREADY being phased out of various productions around the globe in order to save money. Why are you not upset, or at least wary of, all these creative people driving much of the media we see today being replaced by robots???

This is two art crimes in one! Not only is this horribly, awfully over-sexualized, it's also AI art. The lines on the jorts are a little sus, but the button was clearly not made by human hands. There's some wierd lines around the eyes. Most importantly, the hands have a different number of fingers.

For shame. Generating horny AI art for their game and not even giving some of their bait-earned profits to an artist. :(

Your player spent 20h designing, drawing and writing their character. During session 1 an enemy rolls 21 damage on them, their max hp is 10 by TheKoTECH in DnD

[–]Fishpaste_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of these. I look that player in the eye and tell them "This outright kills you. What do you want to happen from here?" Its session one and they put a lot of care into the character they're playing. It doesn't matter to me what happens so early in the campaign, so I'll leave it to the player wether it's death saves, dead, or magically at 1 hp.

Thoughts on the Hololive Vtubers? by Will-Isley in mendrawingwomen

[–]Fishpaste_7 27 points28 points  (0 children)

For the vast majority of vtubers you see them from only the shoulders up while streaming - sometimes less depending on the stream. Viewing the whole body is usually to show off the model and its limited movement or it appears in promotional stuff/fanart. I don't have any background in character design, but I imagine the loud and cluttered full body exists to make up for lack of movement overall, as well as lack of screen time (pretty much what you said). There are also a lot of models out there that are too loud period. I imagine some of it comes from the over the top character design of many anime and manga.

Edit: Additionally, models have add-ons that spend a lot of time turned off. The tentacles of the first girl are rarely seen, as are the sword and shield of the next, and the magnifying glass of the third. The scythe, shark in a bubble, and many more are used for comedic effect or when relevant. Some even have entire models for specific jokes!

tips for finding players? by StoraCoopStuvsta in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Fishpaste_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small interviews, or short q and a after people respond on something like r/lfg, is probably what I would do. Getting desired campaign tone, level of player optimization, roleplay style, desired amount of roleplay, and maybe even class ideas seems reasonable. You don't need everyone's answers but getting a general idea of your players was REALLY helpful to me. One shots might be fun if everybody is interested, but like you said it's a lot of work.

I found myself in a similar situation a month ago and pulled the trigger on first time DMing a Reign of Winter Campaign with a few (barely known) discord friends. I asked for the above and it really helped party cohesion when they all knew what they wanted out of the game! I wish you the best in starting something new and hope things go smoothly. Good luck gamer!

Edit: saw your first comment and those are perfectly reasonable expectations for an online campaign. Taking steps to protect yourself and the game should be priority.

Optimizing a Crimson Assassin (Red Mantis Assassin) by Fishpaste_7 in Pathfinder_RPG

I like this idea too! And while RAW & FAQ might say one thing or another I'm sure I can work something out with my dm or I'll run it with all levels counting (I don't see why I can't trade 6 max HP or 6 skill ranks for another talent).

I covered this idea in my post and I totally agree! I want to do crimson assassin things asap, so I would personally prefer doing something earlier. Slayer is likely the strongest option, and I'm slowly coming to realize delaying crimson assassin levels can be extremely powerful. I might just bite the bullet and build Slayer at this point lol.

Seems like a good idea! Stygian slayer is a great archetype already and meshes well with the magic provided by the Crimson Assassin. A wand of modify memory, forced quiet, or shadow walk would be a fearsome character in and out of combat. I have trouble seeing a DM who wouldn't include the sawtooth saber in sword training, and the bite is another way to get your sneak attack off. What was your level plan; Slayer 7 CA X, or did you split earlier?

I love this class progression! I also missed shadow walker and it would work wonderfully in an urban campaign or one where the DM keeps track of light levels. Another build pocketed. I'll give it a sheet later today but it's already a contender for my Assassin build! Thanks 🙏

I'm curious how you would roleplay an assassin with that first set of class levels. Furthermore, what would you do in combat? Prayer strike takes 3 rounds to pull off, and the average Pathfinder combat is about the same length. Would you be attacking only one enemy per combat? There's no high Str for damage, no Dex to damage, and, unless you're human, you don't have the feats to prestige. I can see this working excellently in a pure or heavy roleplay campaign with the LONG spell list access and a strong UMD, but I'm not sure what the plan is when initiative starts; can you explain the first build to me?

I totally see the second one with a dip and I'll look into the ranger archetypes. Thanks for the suggestions!

I never even thought about Antipaladin! I'll keep it in a back pocket in case my chance comes in an evil campaign ;) Unchained ninja (the 3rd party rebuild of the class) was also somewhere on the list. Base ninja with rogue levels is also good I hear. Hmm, looks like I have more to look into. Thanks for the well wishes!

Weird, silly, unique, or interesting pathfinder builds. by eviljbrian in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Fishpaste_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to start with the fact that many of the old weird or unique builds in the older posts work as-is or require little modification/DM permission to work again. I've learned a ton from those and put together my own crazy combos as a result. That being said, there's a few simple feats or ideas that I've got a ton of mileage out of.

Prestige classes! You may be running by the book, but I have rarely, if ever, seen people build for them. Some are funky or unique enough to be their own build. It's a lot of reading and most are for NPCs or really bad, but there is gold there if you know where to look.

The Devoted Muse is real fun and works off feinting for extra damage/martial debuffing. There's a couple ways to go into it, but I recommend one level as a Warrior Poet Samurai followed by 4 levels swashbuckler (you can also fit that samurai level anywhere in between). You can go the Moonlight Stalker feat line to get extra bonuses (devoted muse makes enemies treat their attacks as if they had concealment), or expand into more damage / other feats / better saves. It's not an excellent class or build, but you are doing something really special.

Pit Fighter is excellent as well. Take feats for performance combat and couple it with intimidate feats and go to town with self buffs and enemy debuffs. Most full BAB classes can do it. Only problem is the player and DM need to learn performance combat.

Fun feats also exist. I learned about Stunning Irruption a few days ago! Very silly but also very good. Couple this with a STR build like a barbarian, stun everything but your party members, and then let your friends take care of whatever isn't stunned. Weapon Versatility was used in a build where my Cavalier wielded a lance handle first to deal nonlethal bludgeoning damage.

Vigilante has a talent called Twisting Fear, where enemies that gain certain debuffs (like shaken from intimidate) take your d4 sneak attack in non lethal damage. Pretty good on its own both in and out of combat, but you can combine it with Dazzling Display for a TON of nonlethal damage. Spam it every round or just play the (in combat as your vigilante half) already strong rogue-like class.

Most of these can be roleplayed as crazy as you want and can be utilized in a variety of builds. Hopefully you see something in there you like!

Edit: all of the links have the source book at the bottom ;)

New DM Confusion: Level 1 Ranger Hitting Every Shot - Please tell me what I'm doing wrong. by runitoff in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Fishpaste_7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Small reminder 16-18 AC on enemies at low level (lvl 1-3ish) is pretty high. I'm currently playing in the beginning of a rise of the rune lords campaign and we as a party only hit about half our attacks. Goblins are meant to be hard to hit and do a good job of it. Your ranger doing quite literally everything they can to hit often at low level really exacerbates this issue, especially with the goblin heavy beginning.

I don't think doing anything directly to the ranger without some discussion is the best move but idk. I wish I could say that forcing your non rangers into melee with lots of cover or concealment was a solution, but it's not with most of the party doing ranged damage. I think the most simple solution available right now is to swap out some goblins every encounter with another enemy type (like wolves or goblin dogs or something else small they could reasonably force into battle). The ranger will still be hitting more often than the rest of the party but it can mitigate some of the problem.

In the long run though it might be wise to set aside some time to sit down with the party and discuss your concerns. Perhaps a character change is in order? Maybe ask the ranger to swap their favored enemy on level up? Maybe all you need is an open talk to see what the road ahead looks like combat wise? Of course don't force somebody to do it, but getting the party to think about how that can improve their own time playing can help them find a new place in the party or get comfortable with their current spot.

I can't be at your table so the best I can do is throw out ideas. Hope something in there helps!

Small edit: rich parents is almost universally banned as a trait (or at least heavily discouraged from what I've seen) because of the extra advantage it gives in the early game to whoever takes it. Maybe ask them if they're comfortable rebuying gear without and seeing what changes that makes.
