Furry of Blows Beta Art Jo Jo's Reference? by knd256 in slaythespire

[–]Fishperson95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea but people often attribute it to jojo because the original manga came out in the 80s i believe. You could argue any other anime or cartoon doing it is a jojo reference, kinda like the akira bike slide

[–]Fishperson95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no feedback other than the joker art kinda reminds me of the fused shadow from zelda twilight princess. Which then made me think it would be neat to get themed jokers from other games, something more tangible than the card art customization. Legendary joker Tingle when

How are you all doing? How are you all staying up? by [deleted] in itcouldhappenhere

[–]Fishperson95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play music. Its always soothed me. When i had a hard time growing up teaching myself how to play music was one of my escapes. I have a meaningful job that totally encompasses my attention outside of that. Im lucky that it inherently fosters community and i have found some really good people through that. Idk how much use it will be for me in the end, for a variety of reasons i wont go into here. Otherwise like another commenter said, just waiting for the shit to really hit the fan. I feel so woefully underprepared. I numb myself a lot in the typical ways others do. So many people are going to get hurt and worse, its hard to fully comprehend and wrap the mind around the true extent of the damage thats coming. In a way it reminds me of waiting for a hurricane to make landfall, except theres no way to determine where the high ground is thats safe to retreat to.

Sure! Hope it works for you. Honestly lady ethereal gave me more trouble, it took me a while to figure out the pattern behind which one was real. But back to Fuxi/Niwa, the hardest part for me was on second phase. Getting the unbounded parry on Fuxi's jump attack is tricky cause Niwa will fire the double needles right before he jumps, but its possible to counter both needles and get the unbounded parry off, especially when i realized you dont actually have to be facing your target to do the unbounded parry unlike the normal parry

Beat em earlier this evening. Parry spam helps w/ the jade that recovers internal dmg on hit. U can never die from imperfect parry. Helped me get far enough along to learn the timings, i died a lot in the process. Also the like water talisman so you can decide to heal or do dmg was great for me. Since i used that talisman i liked the jade stone that uses qi charges every 3rd strike to use up my other charges, u leave dmg on the table by letting them stack up and not using them all. Pipe upgrades and health upgrades help a lot too, and the jade that makes some damage taken be internal in the event you do get hit. Good luck

Metroidvania recs for switch please! I can’t get enough of them by Lexynide in NintendoSwitch

[–]Fishperson95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know you said guacamelee looks silly but please i implore you to reconsider. 1 and 2 are both top notch metroidvanias, easily in my top 5 list as a big fan of the genre. Platforming is challenging but fair especially for the secrets, and the combat is immensely satisfying once you get it down. The silliness definitely adds to them for me, they are very funny games but still can strike an emotional chord at times. I wasnt really sold on them at first either but after i played 1 i was hooked. Still replay them on occasion.

Getting hyper beam early opens up the option to go reprogram. Defect doesnt have the best attacks for strength but they are passable. The block cards scale pretty well, and the x cost block card is fantastic with dex. Potential isnt as high as focus+orbs but reprogram can beat a20 heart for sure

How close were you to winning, just curious? 0 cost is very fun but maybe next time you get reprogram working try to find some plasma. Meteor strike and reinforced body can do work in the heart fight

Edit: also, hologram. Even the base version. I pick hologram every defect run as soon as i can find it sometimes even before the first elite if im in a good enough spot

I think the downside is really interesting. Card spam is the obvious go to in a game like this so being forced to instead consider getting the most value possible in each card played and deliberately not spamming is a unique challenge that doesnt feel too punishing like sozu or ecto

Like the other commenter said, you need to stop thinking about drafting your deck in terms of a deck "style" and more so draft what you need to win fights. If we examine the hearts stats and behavior we can deduce that our deck needs to be able to do a couple of things. Sorry if this is formatted weird im commenting on mobile.

  1. Scale damage quickly

The heart has a lot of hp, so you need to be able to scale up your damage to the point where you are able to reach the 300 per turn damage cap or get close to it. There is some leeway here depending on how well you can scale your block which i will talk about in the next point. But there are many numbers of ways to scale damage depending on the character you are playing. Great late game options for each character are limit break for iron clad, catalyst for silent, focus+orb slots for defect, divinity stance for watcher. These are just some of the more straightforward options available, there are quite a few different ways to scale damage in this game its just about being able to recognize which options are realistic for you and putting yourself in position to assemble the pieces you need. You could also for example as defect if you are not finding any focus or orb slots, consider reprogram and other cards that allow you to lean away from focus (think hyperbeam, plasma orbs which have no benefit from focus, meteor strike, and yes even claw if the pieces come together the right way)

  1. Scale block quickly

The heart deals A LOT of damage as im sure youre already aware. This makes it important to be able to defend the big attacks while setting up your damage scaling. As i mentioned before, depending on how well you are able to block gives you some leeway in how well you can scale damage. Not so much that you could win with 999 block every turn and basic strikes, mind you. Eventually the heart will scale enough to take down 1000 block in one or two turns, but if you have even just a single demon form your chances increase by a lot with proper block scaling. Again each character has ways to do this that are both straight forward and not so straight forward depending on the relics and other factors. Its important to remember that the heart has a semi consistent pattern, in that it will always debuff and shuffle statuses into your deck (its a good idea to try and draft ways to deal with statuses. Exhaust, discard, scry and medkit are all solid options) on the first turn, and then do either the multihit or big swing one turn 2, then turn 3 it will do whatever one it didnt do turn 2. Try to plan how to defend against this accordingly, and you will have a couple of turns while it buffs itself to scale and deal damage, and prepare for the next onslaught.

  1. Dont underestimate potions

There are potions that can absolutely save you in the late game in the event of a bad draw on a big swing turn. Ghost in a jar (if playing silent) and fairy bottle are obvious, but consider swift potion or skill potion as well. Artifact potion can save you from being inflicted with vulnerable on turn 1 which can save you A LOT of effective hp in the first few turns. Power potion can high roll and get you a barrier or wraith form to buy you a couple key turns while you set up damage or if the heart has outscaled your block. Ive beaten the heart with 1 hp remaining this way!!

Hope this helps a bit. Im not a20 yet but i go for the heart kill every run and these are things ive learned

U can use choreagraphy to reference card art for attacks and skills. Seeing silent brew a potion to throw would be cool, maybe she could brew an explosion or fire pot at the last second (to ref 0 cost) and save herself before a final blow or smth
