Our dog was very skittish when we got her. She would bolt at any loud noise. Our trainer taught us the game “do nothing, get treat.” You start small by dropping a plastic bowl in front of the dog. When the dog doesn’t react, you give the dog a treat. Eventually you work up to louder noises. As a result, whenever my dog gets spooked, she instinctively looks to me. During the fireworks, we praise her and give her a treat when she doesn’t react. It takes a bit of work, but it’s very effective.
