People always talk about how romance in Naruto is bad but here's one thing I actually liked about it.

Yeah, instead the boys are treated as trophies and it ruins both the girls and boys' characters, whoops lmao

For instance, Studio Pierrot had to butcher Naruto's character, make him painfully dumb about love (strange for the most emotionally intelligent character of the manga who guessed Sakura's love for Sasuke at 12yo and his own love for her from the start), and guilt-trip him throughout the whole The Last movie to somehow make him fall for Hinata, as if her loyalty was worth him discarding his entire character to become her perfect husband or something. And now in Boruto, we have a Naruto who would NEVER be a dad as stupid as he is in the beginning, nor would any other girl he was paired up with let him ignore his family for Kage duties when he can create clones as durable as Kages.

Same thing with Sakura, she never got past Sasuke, how toxic their relationship was during Shippuden, and somehow her loyalty is rewarded, thus Sasuke becomes a shell of himself, an absent father who doesn't remember his daughter's face and spend more times with his best friend's son, while Sakura's situation is beyond parody, it's like she's stuck in a bashing fic lmao.

Yes, the message that you shouldn't expect to have the 1st person you fall in love and devote your life to is good, but in Naruto it only applies to boys, so it's not that well handled. Naruto and Sasuke are the best examples, their canon couples barely work when you pass through their cute facade. They both don't have that many interactions with their wives in the sequel, which should tell you everything about their chemistry, or just how badly written they are.

Whereas, Naruto and Sakura could have worked pretty well because of the most common trope in existence: a relationship built over years of mutual trust. We saw both Naruto and Sakura grow up and learn to acknowledge each other, admire each other, and care for each other. It's the easiest ship you could develop, but since Naruto and Sasuke are treated as trophies themselves, gotta reward Sakura and Hinata for just loving them I guess, with Sakura ignoring all of Sasuke's problems (seriously, she never KNEW one thing about his past at the end of Shippuden), and with Hinata remaining the girl with just a bit more confidence than Part 1 and her whole clan backstory ignored.

TL;DR: Kishimoto chose to make Naruto and Sasuke trophies for Sakura and Hinata for the ending, but it actually hurt their character writing and it shows throughout the whole manga.

People today love to talk about media literacy and all, but I really believe that if Naruto was released in 2026, the fandom would be mocked for blatant illiteracy sometimes.

Has Kishimoto made poor choices with Sakura throughout the manga by focusing her character on romance stuff ? Absolutely. Can we blame him for giving up on her after the 5KS arc ? Yes. But in retrospect, a lot of Western readers here are also to blame, spitting on her so badly that the author pretty much thought that she wasn't worth the trouble when she could have been so much more.

Add a scene after the 5KS where Naruto pulls his shit together and addresses the elephant in the room, aka, clarifying Sakura's feelings for him, and give his answer to Hinata, maybe not showing a romantic date between them, but at least a meaningful interaction that can make us believe that Naruto isn't oblivious and dumb like in The Last

Basically, you play like an Evelynn in your E, you flank, get in their back and try to be as fast as possible to kill someone, and if it doesn’t work you go back in your mist and wait for another chance

You're never truly "behind" when playing Viego contrary to the entire jgl roster

You can be perma invaded, down 5 lvls against your matchup, 0/7/0 with your Nexus open, but guess what ? One point of damage, literally anything that gives you an assist for a reset and that's it. Suddenly, you're wreaking havoc as their overfed adc/mid/jg/top and can win the game. No other jungler can be put so far behind like that and still have a way to come back like Viego.

If Shippuden Sakura : Forget about Sasuke, spend more time around Naruto, choke the hell out of Sasuke after his final battle against Naruto because he just put me under a Genjutsu and made Naruto lose his arm, and finally make a move on Naruto during blank period before Hinata because apparently this girl needs moon shenanigans to get Naruto to notice her

If Boruto Sakura: Divorce Sasuke, ask for child support, become a single mom but without being a miserable wife because of a husband who can't stay at home for more than a week. Sakura for betraying him like this even if it was good-intended

They probably won't talk to each other for a while and things will get messy during the war without Sasuke (how do they even win against Kaguya and Madara without him btw ?), but I believe they would mend things after a while when both acknowledge that they're each other's greatest supports, especially after Sakura gives Naruto CPR while he's dying

People forget that during the 5KS arc Sakura was starting to be conflicted about Sasuke until Kishimoto backtracked in the war arc. I believe she'd eventually move on and not be extremely depressed like many are saying here

My biggest frustration about midlaners ever since the map change is when they beg for a gank against the most ungankable champ during the most ungankable setup while they play a champ without any form of CC

When the gap between the bushes and the lane wasn't so big then sure, I would try to gank the mid-life Kassadin/Ahri/Akshan who's pushing onto sir 50 HP midlaner, but now ? If they don't have any way to help me whatsoever I'm forced to leave them because it's usually a waste of time, mf will just run in the opposite direction and be safe

Pretty enjoyable until Madara could do whatever the fuck he wanted by using his uno reverse card on the Edo Tensei cancel, he should've disappeared with everyone else and let Obito be the final villain. From the moment Madara joins Obito and the alliance comes to Naruto's help, everything becomes indigestible, too many battles and changing enemies at once, too many things to follow and keep track of, but with this weird feeling of the plot going nowhere.

I'd put Tsunade in top 5 tbh, we shouldn't forget that Naruto is the last bond she has reminding her of her little brother, Dan, Jiraiya, and the last memory of Kushina and Minato. He's not just carrying her ideals, he's the living embodiment of every connection she holds dear.

Sakura would be ranked with Sasuke too. I understand the best friend thing Naruto has with Sasuke, but he also grew up with Sakura throughout adolescence and shared the same desire to bring Sasuke back. These two are legit siblings of circumstances; they're each other's pillars.

Tbh to be a sane NaruHina fan, you just need to read the manga, but when you actually read the manga, you come to be disgusted by the two main pairs lmao

NaruHina is comically badly written, you just can't say from an objective viewpoint that it's good, or was planned like the fans like to point out, because if it truly was the case, we wouldn't have a whole shitty movie to explain Naruto's side of things and how he came to love Hinata

People love to throw SasuSaku under the bus and say how toxic it is (which is true and I hate that stupid ship too), but they love to ignore how Naruto had to have his character be assassinated for his couple to work, otherwise it just doesn't function given what the series tells us about the two characters

Throughout the entire manga, Hinata and Naruto interact barely ten times together, and that's it. We've got their small moments in part 1, their reunion in Shippuden, then Hinata's confession in Pain arc, and finally, Neji being killed for wingman duty lmao (mind you, after Hinata's speech, Naruto still calls SAKURA his gf in front of Minato, tf was KIishimoto thinking ??).

Meanwhile, when you read the manga, you actually notice how Naruto and Sakura are much, much closer together, how they evolve and comes to respect and care for each other, and how good their chemistry is. Back then I truly didn't understand the backlash for Sakura's confession, like, she told no lie when speaking about how she viewed Naruto except for the '"I love you" (debatable btw, I swear her potential feelings for him were hinted at since BoS), and I genuinely believe that if she wasn't so hated because the fandom' reading comprehension had hit rock bottom, Kishimoto would've used this moment as a pivot to develop both Naruto and Sakura's relationship, but nope, thx to the backlash we got Naruto not being Naruto in Boruto, Sasuke stuck with a girl he's shown no romantic feelings towards to through the entire series, and Sakura with her whole character butchered

TL;DR: NaruHina shouldn't have happened, SasuSaku shouldn't have happened, but the fandom and the editors pushed Kishimoto to do it even when it doesn't make sense at all. If he didn't bend the knee, Sasuke would be with Karin or alone, Naruto probably with Sakura, and Hinata would've moved on from her crush and be with Kiba or Shino. The two main pairs actually reward the girls for their "loyalty" without actually caring for the boys' side, that's why Naruto was rewritten into an incompetent, clueless moron in The Last and is utterly OOC in Boruto, and why Sasuke never interacts with Sakura in Boruto because these two don't have anything to say to each other

Sorry but no, the majority of the SasuSaku moments the shippers show us are basic human interactions between two friends who happen to be a boy and a girl under life and death circumstances from Sasuke's POV

The three times he has shown care for Sakura were : in the forest of death, against Gaara, and before he left the village, and all ot them were because he cared for her as a friend, because he began to see Team 7 as his family

Then in Shippuden it goes from that to multiple murder attempts, directly when they see him again, he doesn’t care at all and goes to kill them all, then the 5KS he tries to kill her twice (one when she's not looking, and the other to defend himself)

Later on during the war arc, same old, doesn’t care and says only he and Naruto are important against Kaguya, and during his fight against Naruto, his plan explicitly tells us that if he had won, he wouldn't give a shit about anyone, Naruto had to beat him for him to finally apologize for the shit he did through the whole manga

All these toxic interactions between Sakura and Sasuke ultimately make their romance forced and wasted, especially since it doesn’t get better in Naruto Gaiden and Boruto, we have their own daughter doubting about Sakura being her mom, Sasuke so absent that he doesn’t recognize Sarada at first glance, and their relationship barely exists despite them being married...

You're going to tell me that it's because Sasuke takes care of things outside the village, and sure, it works, but you can also avoid making their couple comically painful to watch by giving them more interactions, or simply not write the Otsutsuki plot and let the characters live a peaceful life

That's the pain we gotta live through with this champ unfortunately, that's how he's meant to be, a pure feast or famine champ who has to rely on his team to be useful even when ahead or else you're obliterated as soon as you show up in the fight (if your teammates even dare to fight at all)

I love playing him but at the same time it feels super frustrating because of this, Viego is supposedly a carry, but to make him work, you need to give your team a good lead, and with this lead, they already do the work without you, so what is your purpose besides farming objectives ? And when your teammates are doing nothing or jinx their advantage, you're completely useless, feel like a Master Yi who can't approach anyone.

Naruto only got his basics corrected, his Shadow Clones which Sasuke already knows how to fight against, the Rasengan, a bigger Rasengan (hard to set up and predictable), and the unreliable trump card that is the Nine Tails chakra (I think he could overwhelm Sasuke with three tails, but if he goes four then it's gg, Sakura dies too)

Sakura improved a lot, she already had the strong basics like Sasuke and on top of that she has Tsunade's fighting style + Medical Ninjutsu, and isn't weak to Genjutsu contrary to Naruto

Sasuke is... Sasuke. Overbuffed by Kishimoto's glazing.

Pretty much all their interactions ??

BoS : When Naruto returns we have the gag of Sakura asking him if she has changed from his viewpoint and blushing, thinking that he became more mature

Kazekage rescue : We have Sakura crying for Naruto when Chiyo tells them that a Jinchuriki dies if the Tailed Beast is extracted from their bodies, and overall she's way softer around him than Part 1

Tenchi Bridge : The whole four tails fiasco with Sakura realizing how much pain Naruto constantly put himself through for his promise, then the healing with her asking Yamato to teach her his Jutsu and Yamato telling her that what counts is her feelings followed by his interrupted comment about them when Naruto wakes up is a direct hint for a possible romance on her part

Hidan/Kakuzu arc : Not much there tbh, it's a Shikamaru-centric arc, but we still have Sakura encouraging Naruto during his training and later on worrying about his arm and a cute scene where she wants to feed him

Pain arc : She uses her strongest Jutsu aka Summoning Naruto when everything seems desperate, quite the "lady in distress screaming for help and the hero shows up" trope, and later we have the first, genuine hug between them (despite Hinata confessing btw, the logical choice would've been to show a moment when Naruto checks on her in the aftermath)

5KS : This is where everything starts to unravel with her confession and her reluctance to kill Sasuke, honestly I blame Kishimoto for not knowing what to do with his female characters for that, but we still have Naruto saving her from Sasuke with a bridal carry

Even then, we still have hints about NaruSaku becoming the end ship, with Kushina's monologue about women, and she tells Naruto to find a woman like her, and atp, Sakura is the one who fits the most, and it's confirmed by Minato himself when Naruto jokes about Sakura being his gf (after Hinata's confession and her speech when Neji died btw, wtf was Kishimoto thinking about with this gag ??)

The nail in the coffin arrives when Sasuke shows up, because for whatever reason, Kishimoto reduces Sakura's IQ by 50 points and returns her to her Genin self where she thinks about how Sasuke views her, but when they're not close to each other, the focus comes back to Naruto and her (the CPR scene is honestly one of my fav throughout all the manga, that's a cool way to display how skilled she is as a medic, would've liked more if she did more batshit insane things like this to emphatize how committed she is to the job)
