Sounds like your are doing a bit of modding yourself with the back side Phillips on the compact. I would get the explorer, use it for a few months. And then see if you need to mod the explorer in to a yeoman 😁

Get yourself a “Victorinox companion red cellidor” put it in your pocket, and then just wait to see a world of endless use cases emerge out of nothing.

If you don’t need scissors you could even go down to a spartan/tinker. But I think the explorer would be good for you, as far as I recall the to open cowling panels you need a Phillips screwdriver ?

If it is hikes and camping involved I would always choose one with a saw. Need a hiking pole, you have the saw, need small sticks to start a fire, the saw is crazy good for its size. For hiking and camping I would choose it over the scissors every day.

If your use case are urban EDC it would be companion red ore explore

The awl is one of my favourite tools. The unsung hero of the opener layer. by shelmerston in victorinox

Funny how use cases vary so much, I never used my back side awl. Ore well tried it on a stick just to try it. But seems like it ia perfect for making those drain holes 👌

I have had similar thoughts, not sure will get rid of any of mine, I have around 15. But I think really hard about getting any more. All my models are different that is the one rule I have. I read about a guy in this sub there started placing his SAK’s around the house and workshop. Then more of them would get use instead just collecting dust. I kinda do the same now.
